Otwin has been in awe at Stella the whole time. He likes Amodius' attempt to communicate with it, wondering perhaps the beast has its own language entirely. He jots down a note about animal languages being a possibility into his notebook then looks up as he hears Brother Maynard's words.
Otwin has often prefered to study rather than move himself, but Brother Maynard's offer did seem too good to pass down.
With excitement and a bit of apprehension, Otwin begins to climb the tree. "Here goes nothing!" he thinks.

After the climbing competition, Amodius decides the start carving the necessary components for his figure 4 deadfall traps. He manages to gather 27 straight, small sticks, enough for 9 traps. He then uses his small knife to carve the necessary notches and grooves into them. Finally, he ties the sticks into a bundle and places them in his quarters, when the time comes he will be able to hastily and readily construct his traps.

Back to the action:
One night after dinner, Bongo announces that his friend will join the music tonight, and then begins to drum a variety of different rhythms. Shortly after, someone shaking a rattle in time with the drums, dances towards the campfire, until another dwarf is dancing around the campfire with loud rattling ankle bracelets. This new dwarf looks similar to Bongo with his red hair, but the new dwarf has a much shorter beard and also carries a distinctive Chultan shield and spear, jumping and striking at invisible foes with both the spear and the shield. After a while, the new dwarf dances off into the night and disappears. After the music is over, Bongo tells you there will be spear practice tomorrow, and leaves for the night.
The next morning Bongo gathers you all and leads you around a corner of the farm obscuring your view from a large clearing the size of a football field. The new dwarf from last night is there standing next to several spears planted point down in the earth at the edge of the clearing. Several scarecrows made of jungle stalks and leaves are spread out around the middle of the field.
Bongo introduces the new dwarf as his friend named Pod, who then demonstrates throwing the spear, and launches it through the air to strike a scarecrow. He then facilitates practice with the spear for everyone first, and then after a while encourages whatever ranged attack you want to do on the scarecrow.
Later after dinner when people are still gathered around the campfire, Bongo tells you that each night he tells a story with his drum. Each hero or monster or spirit has it’s own rhythm, and the stories and the rhythms can help you survive in the jungle. Bongo points to one of the many totem poles spread around the camp, carved with many faces of jungle beasts stacked high.
Brother Maynard will also embrace the spear training. He will practice both in-range and long-range throws. With Pod's and Bongo's permission, he will also practice two handed melee attacks and one handed attacks with his shield. To everyone's amusement, he tries to re-enact the moves Pod had performed, striking out with both spear and shield to a rhythm Maynard was trying to "feel" and recreate in his head.
As he practices and attunes to the feel and weight of the weapon, over the days, Maynard begins to believe that the spear may be more preferable to his mace in jungle exploration. He will approach Pod and/or Bongo to confirm the suitability/preferability of the spear in a jungle setting and expected foes/challenges to be faced.
If given the opportunity, he will not wait for the employer to ask Bongo and Pod his questions about expected length of travel, length of time and environment at the destination, and reasonableness of stowing and carrying heavy armor to be used at the destination. Maynard will again ask about healing potions and kits being supplied by the employer.
If a trip back into the city is warranted, to replace armor, buy a spear, or acquire healing stuffs, Maynard would like to have the time to do so.

Rain is fascinated with the new dwarf's dancing style. On the one hand, the setting is very different from dancing performances that she has seen. It reminds her of theatrical performances, and she feels that she can almost picture the dancer's invisible opponents. The impulse to join in the dance is strong, but she doesn't want to overstep or embarrass herself in front of the others. She does stand and move back into the shadows a little, swaying and tapping her foot to the music.
Rain joins the morning spear practice with enthusiasm, trying a variety of attacks.

Amodius us intrigued by the dancing, and asks the dwarf whether it gives him any magical or supernatural power, furiously scribbling in his notes as the dwarf speaks. Then, Amodius decides to try his hand at spear throwing.

"A friend thought me when I was younger and then, when you are a traveling merchant, there is a lot of time you can either spend beeing bored or to read books and practice."
But Rain can see how a shadow darkness her expression when she mentions her friend.
When Pod appears, Jiali is fascinated and amazed by his dancing, not so much by the prospects of having spear training.
Jiali has never been good with weapons and is hesitantly to join and a bit afraid of the training, bit finally, she asks Pod to show her the right techniques for thrusts and throwing the spear and tries her best to hit the target.
Attack Thrust: 9

After some discouraging tries however, she gives up on the spear, draws the only weapon she brought and starts throwing her dagger at the scare crow using her mage hand to retrieve the blade after each throw.
When Rain asks about Jialis thoughts on the matter of every beast having it's own rythem, she is delighted by the fact that somebody seems to value her opinion.
"I think the repeating musical themes for characters or creatures in the theater is just for dramaturgic reasons. However, rythms can have power too. Many spells rely on rythms and acoustig excitement to manipulate the weave of magic. What exactly Bongo meant whit what he said, I don't know. The view from the top of the palm trees offers a nice breeze , but not much more information about the other side of the farm fence. Tall straight trees grow in a parallel row following the inside of fence and obscure the view, but a large red barn is fairly easy to spot, and you see glimpses of what must be a smaller structure painted blue, and another that is painted yellow.
Bongo can tell you that the farm produces a little bit of everything, including, ship masts, which account for the tall straight trees.
Bongo and Pod demonstrate the rhythms for their god, and also his friend the god Ubtao who abandoned the jungle, and left behind a civilization that crumbled without the protection offered by divine magic. They show you the rhythm for divine magic, and tell you that there is no divine magic left in the jungle. Only what you bring with you. The tell you that part of the reason they play their rhythms every night is summon Ubtao back to the jungle to play music with his friend, the dwarf god of the jungle. They also tell you that when they play their rhythms they can hear all the trees and animals echoing back their song, and know their joy and fear warding us from danger and warning us of the undead. They say the drum is for fun to help grow the power of the rhythm in the heart, but they don’t need the drum to work the magic, it is the dance that calls the power. Pod demonstrates a funny chicken dance and then jumps high into the air, and when his feet touch the ground he bounces right back up even higher all the way to the top of a nearby totem pole, sticking the landing like a monkey. Pod scrambles back down to the ground just as nimbly, then strikes a proud pose. Bongo claps and laughs.
Bongo explains that the dwarfs can move through the jungle safely with the blessing of their god, but everyone else needs to learn how to ride one of the big turkey lizards like Stella. The undead aren’t attracted by the sounds that the turkey lizards make when they move through the jungle, but if a zombie hears someone walking, they will raise the alarm, and summon a hoard. Also, the horse sized lizard, can carry supplies and tools, and possibly treasure if they find any.
Bongo explains that most Chultans could fall asleep riding one of the turkey lizards, and that everyone needs to be able to impress the boss man with their animal handling skills when he finally shows up. (Bongo and Pod offer training everyday with the leathery riding beasts, for each week of training give your character a +1 bonus to animal handling up to a max of +3)
Bongo tells you that the boss man is busy shutting down his business on the other side of the wall (Port Nyanzaru), but will continue to operate in the Tiryki Anchorage, just like he has for many years.
