Well if this thread still recruiting my character Hexan seems like he'd fit this sort of setting... or die horribly its a bit of a toss-up. I should say that I am a complete beginner when it comes to DnD so I may be in over my head when it comes to this thread.

Other than needing to trim out the equipment back to starting items from background, and any weapons, tools or armor from class, plus a pack with 3 Ration Slots and 3 Adventuring Gear Slots instead of whatever pack choice you'd have, Hexan would fit the criteria.
We are open to beginners, as long as you're on board with the cosmic horror theme (eg, your character may see things that drive them insane, if they don't die first...), and willing/understanding that we are implementing some rule variants that aren't typical of your standard game of DnD.

Playing:
Baral-Coliseum of Conquest, Lazarus Vernon- Tale of Mercenaries;Bernard Lionsbane- Solo Curse of Strahd
Name: Hexan Race: Human- Varient Class: Wizard School of evocation Background: custom (Seeker) Alignment: LN Backstory: Hexan was obsessed with discovering the secrets of the world and his place within it and so deciding from an early age that his noble background offered him no true fulfilment he instead fell in with a group of travelling wizards who like him hungered for knowledge. However, this quest for knowledge swiftly began to tread a dark path as he and the cabal he joined practised darker magics and made pacts with foul forces to uncover the 'hidden truths' as his mentors put it.
Eventually, when he could no longer stomach what was asked of him and fearing for his very mind and soul if he remained Hexan fled the cabal in the night. But he knows that his betrayal has not been forgotten and so to find some form of protection or secret weapon to use against his erstwhile allies Hexan has fled to Trishdale hoping to find something to save himself or at least his soul.
Hope this works also weirdly Grammarly is telling me this text sounds very friendly and joyful. I don't know how to process that.
(Ha, I rolled up a human bladesinger for Coliseum of Conquest before it was rejected! But why ? Are you choosing a human bladesinger purely for optimization reasons, as I once did, or is there a special RP reason for doing so? We have room for flexibility in the lore, but is there a special reason you can't play a half-elf, elf, or eladrin?)

(Basically optimization. Unfortunately even though I love RP, when I play with 5E my head goes to the mechanical side first. As for why I wouldn't want to play as an elf... There's 2 reasons. I already have another Eladrin wizard that I'm planning on doing bladesinger with and the other, I'm planning on a dual wielding bladesinger. Not having Warcaster for the somatic requirements would be really painful.)
Alright, first let's see what stats I'll be working with.

Hmm. That's pretty decent. What are your thoughts on human bladesingers?
Name: Fallion A. Tlanbourn Race: Variant Human Class: Fighter 1/Wizard 2(Bladesinger) Background: Knight (With retainers, will need DM's approval I think) Backstory: Fallion Armstrong Tlanbourn was adopted and raised by the Tlanbourn family. For what reason a family of Elven aristocrats and merchant lords adopted a human, no-one knew and none thought to ask, including Fallion. He was just a babe when his elven brother Toremir was already 83 years old, yet he grew to reach adulthood on the same day as his brother. He never questioned being perhaps not born into but raised as a higher class than most humans he knew. To him, there was nothing strange about sharing the same treatment as an elf 83 years his elder, who calls him brother. They got along surprisingly well, at first Toremir helped raise him but they were soon learning and going out to extravagant events together. There was, however, one thing that their parents did not share among the two equally. The hidden art of magic, specifically Bladesinging.
While Toremir and Fallion learned the ins and outs of martial combat together, the Bel'Savian drop-sword style, the murder-stroke, Arl'Tellion's parry; Toremir was the only one permitted to study spellcraft. Despite everything, some things were meant for blood only, he was told. Not in those exact words of course, instead through the tactful signals in mundane activities that nobles are so adapt at understanding. However, there was a problem. Neither Toremir nor Fallion liked this arrangement and much like those who were raised while getting whatever they wanted, this time they would also get what they want. So, by day Toremir learned his lessons and by night he was repeating every secret to Fallion.
They were eventually exposed, as these things often are, and swiftly punished. While Toremir was sent to a cushioned position in the army (reserved for nobility, he will never see combat), Fallion was sent off as a knight errant instead. Glorified Exile with privilege, righting wrongs as atonement etc etc. And this is how Fallion ended up in this 'pigsty', as the nobles back home viewed it. He did not mind. In fact, the life of Nobility felt suffocating to him, a road straight to depression and uselessness. He took 3 retainers who were upstanding and whom he had trusted (they agreed to accompany him) and set off. Well aware what this destination had meant, he was nonetheless ready to live life with purpose. Though, perhaps, he will find this place has more than he asked for...
Hi I would love to play, I already have a character and backstory in mind but I would LOVE to play a werewolf and I know that’s an exotic race, but could I say it’s human variant? Since my character will shape shift into a wolf and in terms of traits found in race, I’ll be going off ( https://roll20.net/compendium/dnd5e/Werewolf#content ) and would love him to be an assassin, level 3 rogue of course and I can quickly whip up a form, plus the equipment listings and such. I also have a question of what type of weapons and gear I’m allowed if I am a werewolf. if this is a problem, I’m happy to pick something else that is more fitting
(Keep in mind we are not allowing homebrew or UA. If you want to play a werewolf, then maybe you can try out Critical Role's Blood Hunter, Order of the Lycan.)
Name: Gunhilda the Warkiller Race: Human- Varient Class: Blood Hunter Lv 3 ( order of the lycan) Background: Haunted One (Monster Hunter) Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Backstory; Gunhilda was born with the curse of lycanthropy as it was passed down from her father, Great Hunter Ludwig after he cursed by Longclaw the Vicious, after Ludwig took down his pack. When she was a young teen during her first transformation she killed her mother (Meredith the brave) as she couldn’t control herself, angered her father labelled her a monster but stated that in his line of work sometimes it takes a monster to fight a monster and so he trained her in the ways of a monster hunter which eventually lead to her joining the clan of the lycan. Over time and effort, she gained a good reputation after a lot of blood sweat and tears and became a renowned monster hunter but the people would always see her as a monster. Much like they did with her old ally (who they no longer have a connection to) Geralt of Waterdeep. Still she fights for them as she hopes this will make up for her curse. She knows there’s a deep evil in her and it must never be unleashed but she fights as she hopes to rid herself of her guilt of her mother’s death and make right her wrong doings as she fights to protect these lands. Character Sheet; https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/BriennetheBarbarian/characters/37069794
Fears; Brainwashing or Corruption, she can’t have herself fall into the wrong hands and be used against others (she’s too dangerous), having her mother come back as a vengeful spirit, not being able to control the beast within, spiders and confined spaces that has no exist, loosing loved ones and not being able to save the people she cares about, failure.
Flaws; she doesn’t trust people easily, she’s haunted by her past, she has to always check on her other side to ensure that she remains control (even if the stats say she can, her psychosomatics say she can’t and hence she doubts herself) the mission comes before anything, she can be reckless with herself as she values others above her own selfish needs, has a VERY morally grey compass when she’s following what she thinks is right and not doing what she thinks is wrong.
(I like the backstory. Is this a character that can work together in a party? In a West Marches, it is the job of the players to assemble their party, so it is best to create a character that can facilitate that.)
