Our story is set in the Forgotten Realms on Faerûn’s western shore—the Sword Coast. A thin strip of civilization stretches down this coast, where widely spaced cities are arranged like beads on a string. A combination of roads and wagon tracks loosely connect the cities that stretch from Luskan in the north to Calimport in the south, passing through Neverwinter, Waterdeep, Baldur’s Gate, and other great ports along the way. Rumors are abound of a mysterious Cult of the Dragon. But look now: southeast, to the town of Greenest.
Greenest is the only town of any size astride the Uldoon Trail, the most direct road between the eastern cities of the Dragon Coast, Cormyr, and Sembia with the Coast Way running south to the great cities of Amn, Tethyr, and far Calimshan. The trade caravans that pass through Greenest bring gold to the town’s merchants and craftsfolk and have turned the town into a thriving community.
To what end are you in the Sword Coast? Perhaps you have come from far away, or perhaps you are a native to somewhere in the surrounding area. Nevertheless, for the past several days, you have been traveling a road that winds lazily across the rolling grasslands of the Greenfields. You have found yourself in the company of three other adventurers that you have met along the road. It is midday.
Character Beginnings (Your First Post)
What I would like from each of you is the following information about your character. Please feel free to use the old thread to discuss amongst yourselves and ask me questions, once we have all four replies we can get rolling!
Name (Bold, in the color you would like associated with your character.)
Race
Class
Background (5 - 10 sentences, or whatever works) - try to include your place of origin, why you chose to become an adventurer, and some personal goals.
What events led you toward the Sword Coast, and to Greenest specifically?
Name:Rhogar Turnuroth Race: Dragonborn (Teen) Class: Fighter Background: Wanderer Backstory: Rhogar and his tribe were living peacefully for years, not having many qualms with other creatures. One day, while Rhogar and his family were having a meal, their village was surprised by a raid of Orcs and Ogres. These beasts destroyed the village and everyone in the village (As far as Rhogar knows). Rhogar's mother and father sacrificed themselves to allow Rhogar to escape, some of the other young Dragonborn were not so lucky. Rhogar spent the next couple of years living alone in the forest, learning what he can about fighting and honing what he had already learned from his parents already. He found his way to the Sword Coast and eventually to Greenest, where his adventure begins.
What led you to group up with the others? Not liking the long life of solitude, he finds this group and tries to tag along, so as not to be alone anymore, and maybe making a couple friends in the process.
Backstory: Voria’s tribe lived near the Sea of Frozen Ice. Her family was made up of mostly fishermen and sailors, though there were a few pirates too. At an early age, Voria felt the call of the wild. After completing her chores for the day would leave and explore Icewind Dale. As she got older Voria would spend more and more time outside of her tribe She would explore and get to know the wildlife of the frozen land. In recent years she has taken to explore beyond the Dale and into the southern lands.
What events led you toward the Sword Coast, and to Greenest specifically?
Voria was been traveling south, curious to learn about this new (to her) natural world. She was going into Greenest to resupply.
What led you to group up with the others?
Traveling alone can be dangerous, especially if one doesn't know the land. Voria would've joined the others looking for safety in numbers
(sorry for the wait, it thought you would send a link)
Name:Vrakerg Arcanesoul
Race: Hobgoblin
Class: Wizard (abjuration)
Background: Mercenary Veteran
Backstory:
i was born into a clan of hobgoblin called the Gharlendar. they were a secretive group of hobgoblin that had learned the secrets of magic. they used it to destroy other clans of goblins, bugbear, hobgoblin, and even the normal humanoids. they became over confidant because they knew the secrets of magic, and started open war with the most powerful empires. the were, quickly, efficiently, and ruthlessly destroyed by the empires.
this all happened when Vrakerg was a child. when his clan was destroyed, he used the little magic he had been taught to escape, and survive in the wild. one day, when he was 13, he found dark elf habitation. to him, it looked like the only civilization he had ever saw: a war camp. he walked in, and said that he could help them for a price. they turned him down, as he was only 13. but they said maybe when he was older. for the next 12 years of his life, he practiced every day, honing his few spells he knew to a perfection, spending hours with a longbow he had made with sturdy sticks and vines, practicing his stealth and tracking. when he was 25, he went back to the drow mercenary, for he had learned that was what they were, and made the same offer. after seeing his skills, the drow accepted. he fought in many successful campaigns with the drow, and made a sizable amount of money.
that was when he learned of the cult of the dragon. the drow despised them, and therefore he did to. he and the drow decided to attempted to infiltrate the cult of the dragon, and kill them all. they sneaked in, weapons at the ready, and started the massacre. they were noticed, and every last one of them was killed, except for Vrakerg. after this, he dedicated his life to stopping the cult of the dragon at any cost.
What led me to Greenest: i went to greenest because i heard there were others who hated the cult of the dragon there
what led me to the party: i needed companions to fight against the cult of the dragon.
As the three of you (Voria, Vrakerg, andRhogar) find yourself within the city of Beregost, you find that the others are traveling to Greenest and decide to travel together. As the journey winds down you find the sun slowly beginning to fall with about four hours till sunset. The cool wind blows from behind as the you make your way up the last remaining hill towards Greenest. The trees along the road sway with the colored leaves drifting between you as they fall towards the near abandoned path.
((You may interact with one another as you choose before finishing your journey to Greenest.))
Voria walks alongside her travel companions. The breeze reminds her a little of home. She stops to pick up a variety of leaves. Holding a yellowed one, she looks over at the others. "Are all the southern lands this colorful?"

Rhogar looks up at the leaves and gives off a smile. "When I lived in the woods... before..." he stops for a moment before continuing. "The woods were beautiful, especially at night. And no, I've never been to Greenest before. I thought this might be a good thing to get my mind off things."He says smiling at Voria and the leaves she's holding.
Life for each of you seems to hold still in the moments of talking and the beauty of the coming fall. However, there does seem to be an oder that begins to occur around you. The further up the hill you walk the stronger and stronger it gets. Soon each of you are drawn back to familiar memories (both good and bad) of this scent. It's the scent of fire! Something burning in the distance. Yet, it does not smell like wood or campfire but smells more like oil, heat, and stale smoke when things are engulfed.
Voria tucks the leaf away in her bag. "No, I haven't been this far south before."She takes a breath to tell them about her homeland when she catches the smell. She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. "That is not a good fire smell. Should we check it out? Someone could need help."

Running to the top of the hill you see Greenest! Yet, it is not the relief you wanted. Looming over the top of the gates you watch a giant blue tail swings out of view. You watch in horror as the walls are engulfed in flames and black smoke. You hear the screams of those inside. It takes you another 20 minutes of running down the hill towards the city before you make out figures running around inside the broken gates. The sun has now set as the light from the fires begin to be your source of visual. Without warning, five humans dash out of the thick black smoke between the gate. A man carrying two children appear with a woman carrying a shield and broken spear. They frantically pear behind them as eight kobolds stream out of the smoke on the families heels. They surround the woman who looks determined to delay the creatures as long as possible.

Rules for Combat
During your initiative please describe what you are doing in order to prepare. Do you run up to the enemy with your fists up? Do you pull out your shortbow and nock an arrow? An example is below. As we get into combat we will wait for each person to describe what they are doing and then roll both for attack and damage at the same time. Feel free to ask anything to the DM and I will interject when I can. This is a story that we all are creating so be detailed and when ever you get to a new creature you attack (that has multiple of them such as the kolbolds) please give a description of your choosing to that creature (example below). This will help differentiate the enemies and give you some creative control (One description per enemy). If you have any questions feel free to ask.
The women stands her ground as she grips her spear and points it at the kolbold with the scar running down it's face (K1).
Rhogar, knowing what its like to be an orphan and not wanting that for the other children rushes, with both his battle axes in hand, up to the Kobold with the scar running down its face ((K1)). Keeping an eye on the Kobold with a couple fingers missing ((K2)).
Voria runs to the Kobolds enough to allow her to use her magic (60 ft) and clutching a sprig of mistletoe in one fist she connects with the natural forces of this unfamiliar land but thinking of the cold of home and how it use to cause frostbite
You all watch as the Kobold behind the woman limps over to her (K5) and swings his dagger at her feet. The other Kobolds yip and cheer as the dagger cuts through the air.
Attack: 24 Damage: 4
As the dagger cuts through it lands and nicks the woman's heel.
((I didnt realize my battle axes weren't considered light. Alright, I'll be using my action and [Tooltip Not Found]e to attack twice.)) Rhogar, face to face with the scarred Kobold, will swing his axes toward the creature.
Swing 1: Attack: 25 Damage: 13
Swing 2: Attack: 10 Damage: 5
((I assume swing 2 misses.)) Rhogar's first strike comes at the kobold with extreme force, slashing at its chest. His second swing misses by a hair and curs through the air.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As you swing through the air your first swing strikes true to the chest of K1. The kobold looks at you in awe, looks slightly down at his chest and begins to topple over. The remaining 7 kobolds look at your direction in shock. "Traitor!" one shouts as he begins to charge you.
However, the women eager to keep the beasts where they are swings her spear at the kobold moving towards you.
Attack: 13 Damage: 1
