The sun is shining bright through the crisp morning air as you join the throngs of people pushing their way towards the southern gate of the ancient walled city of Bolope. The hike up the switchback path from the river below was long and tiring but it certainly helped keep you warm, especially when you passed near the great waterfall that exits the side of the city before plunging 200 meters to the river below.
Before you the high city walls are just as impressive up close as they were from down below. Carved from the dark stone of the mountains that almost touch the other end of the city they still bare the scars of the Rebellion. Dents in solid stone display the power of massive catapults and scortch and acid marks show that conventional weapons were not the only ones used here. Still the walls strong and you get a sense these marks were left more to show their strength than because they could not be fixed.
As you get closer to the gates the press gets tighter and tighter. The people around you are mostly dwarves, common folk wearing the browns and tans of homespun fibers. Occasionally a tall elf or human stand above the level of the crowd.
Getting close to the gate you see dwarven soldiers in brass coloured armor standing off to the sides. Mostly they let people pass unimpeded but occasionally they pull aside someone and ask questions.
As you get close one of them with a shaved head and long brown beard points to you Lyrika. "You, Saytr, over here please. Have some questions for you."

"Ahhh...a busy city full of interesting people. Not arrived but 5 minutes ago and already there is intrigue. I meet a fellow Tabaxi and a Satyr in the same day? My, aren't I the lucky one."
The group sees the enthusiastic Tabaxi wearing a very fine matching coat and pants of a sky blue color with gold along the hem of the sleeves and pant legs. The coat is open, baring his slate grey furred chest.
"Mmm, what do you think we should do first, Edgar?"
Ahead of him the city rose, imposing and foreign. Fenro felt the lack of connection to the world that exists after an area like this is cleared for people to inhabit. Yet, even amongst the thick stones and worn streets, he knew that life fought back. Grasses grew in the cracks of the cobblestones, animals scurried and thrived out of sight. Nature always survived, it was people who came and went. Fenro would normally have avoided places like this, caring more for the connection to the jungles of his home, even the grass plains and rocky mountains he had travelled through were more inviting. Still, where people gathered, so did knowledge. Surely someone here would be able to help him get one step closer to what he sought.
Stopping at a puddle beside the road, Fenro glances down to see his reflection. Looking back was a young man many others had encountered on his journey. A young man who looked eager to be out exploring the world. Clearly confident, but not a threat to those around him. He travelled light for speed, but everything he carried was good quality and had a purpose. Fenro knew that if he showed his true face one of two reactions would occur, fear, or questions he could not answer. This way was easier. This way he was ignored.
With a sigh, Fenro gathers his focus and heads into the city gates, trying to blend with the traffic around him. Maybe my choice of face needed some more thought, he considers as he looks out at the sea of dwarves. His height clearly made him stand out above the rest. Though, in a city this busy, it was not unusual to see foreigners. In fact, he had seen a range of people, humans, elves, tabaxi, even a satyr, amongst the crowd. Amongst all this bustle, Fenro needed to stay focused. His goal is information. The likely location, a library, possibly even the temples. Maybe it was best that he ask for directions.
"Who, me?" Lyrika says as she skips over to the guard, the pan flute she had been playing as she walked still held to her lips. "What's wrong? Is my flute license expired? Is there a hoof tax on the gate? Or are you just feeling a little lonely over here?"

Speaking to the rude Dwarf, "My good man, my friend here merely wishes to partake in the festivities and is new to your lands, eager to learn your ways. She had meant absolutely no disrespect. How's this then? If we meet at a tavern at any point during the festival I shall buy you two a round. No no! Two!"
"Thank you, my fuzzy friend," says Lyrika, pulling her lute out of her bag. "But these squat sentries have a legitimate concern, and probably a few illegitimate ones they don't want anyone to know about. The truth is, I have heard that the greatest bards of the age have been summoned to your land to compete in musical events, and to provide harmony for your wonderful festival. The energetic furred man immediately steps away to find some performers. Fire dancers, acrobats, and the like.
It takes you a while to navigate the crowd streets but eventually you make your way to what seems like a central square. Off to the east side you see a number of laborers working to set up a tent with what appear to be wooden stands inside.
On the west a small tent market has been set up with various stands and stalls selling more goods and seemingly more foods than before on the street.
In the middle of the square a number of games appear to have taken over. There's what looks to be a strength tester, an archery set up, as well as a number of games of chance or small skill.

Off to the side, the guards are distracted by a pair of tabaxi and a satyr who appeared to be trying to play a tune. This was enough distraction to slip through the gates. Maybe a different guard would be better to ask.
After getting into the city proper, Fenro decided the temple would be the best place to start. As he walked he looked for any signs of a religious area, or someone he could ask directions. A friendly shop keeper would probably be betterthan a guard just now.
Lyrika laughs. "Whatever's your pleasure, my friend! It's rare enough to find someone willing to back you up when they know you, let alone a stranger. I'm Lyrika Nyx, and, as you might have noticed, I'm a bard. Who is it that I've been lucky enough to meet on this fine festival day?"
Lyrika decides to stick with the Tabaxi. Not only does he seem like a good potential friend, but Tabaxi are a pretty unusual sight, and it never hurts to have more than one way to attract an audience.
