"How much oil y'think we need?"Jormund says, patting his pack. "Tell ye true, I'm more concerned for how we get our hands on one o' them cloaks next chance we get. They keep gettin' the jump on us... how to jump them?"
After that if Firth seems stable, Jormund wants to go inspect the ground over where the cave-in happened, checking for instabilities or exposed access.
“I wonder if the city guard could could provide a wizard, one that specializes in evocation maybe? If they can’t maybe they know of one that would be willing to help?”
Jormund, from within the sewer you see no path forward down the tunnel you were just in without a monumental effort to move the earth that has collapsed. However, you do see just a right at the edge of the collapsed tunnel, behind a partially fallen tile, a void that extends further back away from the north side of the tunnel. If you bring a lantern up to the crack, you see a natural cave wall that appears to have been used as the framework for the sewer tunnel.
The sewer walls have been made uniform to promote smooth flow, but the cave wall behind it moves in a winding, natural formation. You see can see the sidewall of the natural cave ebbs and flows away from the sewer wall, with a gap large enough to squeeze by in most places. You don't initially see any new branches within your eye-line, but as a dwarf, you would expect that a cave would contain several different branches where water had carved out a natural void.
Jormund to the party, "Oy! We've got caverns behind these drains... I'ma gonna go ask the young guard some things. Be right back..."
While passing Bryn he shoots a sideways reply, "Aye! A bit of fire & lightnin'd be just what the general order'd fer these scum... maybe we see if the guard brought any wid 'em up there?" He points up the ladder.
He climbs up topside and looks for young Firth. Assuming he finds him, as soon as he's sure he's got some wits about him still, Jormund will question him. "That gutter you's down in... did it go anywheres else? And how many passersby did'n ye hear while you were stowed up like that?"
Firth, slowly beginning to work his legs out as he blinks against the light of day, looks back to you and says "The gutter I was in? I didn't rightly investigate as I was holding my shield against the entrance, but my legs were spread stuck in that hole, almost as if I was riding a horse. My feet could wiggle free, but everything else was pretty well jammed with muck and mud. Perhaps I was in a bigger hole covered with a boulder? Can''t rightly say."
He screws his face up in thought. "I heard one group of people walk by while I was down there, I'd say 6-10 souls all told. Other than that, I heard a swarm of rats move by 3 or 4 times while I was down in that blasted hole, can't be sure if there was a person among them or not.
If you wanted to acquire lantern oil or any other mundane items, that can easily obtain by talking to the guards or Sir Henry. A wizard or spellcaster would require a bit more research. Ann, I believe that you heard about a local wizard while shopping at the tailor, otherwise you could ask around town if there were other options.
"I thank ye Firth. Yer a good lad. May yer metal be tempered by it." says Jormund in response to the information.
He then tromps over to the highest ranking guard he can see nearby... "You all'll see that fella has some time to adjust his head back to living, yeah? Also, my associates were awunderin' if y'all have any oil ye could spare for a rat roast or two? Alchemist's fire wouldn't make me sorry either... any chance o' that?"
"It looks t'me like there's caverns down under the sewers where they're brewin' up their trouble, rats foremost. I need to talk to the others but we're considering a delve, me'thinks."
The guards are more than happy to provide you with as much lamp oil as you can carry, however, there is no alchemist fire in the armory at this time. So what do you do next? There are several other entrances to the tunnels, and Ann, I believe you would recall the seamstress that gave Rowan her glamorweave mentioned something about a wizard living in a tower on the outskirts of town, and helping her with her work, if that was an angle you'd like to pursue. I quoted the sewer map for reference.
Jormund says to Vedui, Bryn, and Ann, "Another entrance might be useful... perhaps if we can check 'em right quick. Or maybe the town square to see if there are clues from yesterday..., but there's a whole cavern behind the wall of the one we just tumbled. M'thinks we'd better make sure that's accounted for first, 'specially as the lad says he heard multiple sorties... maybe the place we just dropped is a thoroughfare or has an entrance. Wudn'a wanna put eyes on the web instead of the lair. Care to go an have a peek here quick, so ye can see what I mean?"
Bryn shrugs and looks a Jormund, "I'll wager you have the most experience underground out of all of us, probably more than all of us put together, so I defer to your judgement on where you think our efforts will be most effective."
In reply to Vedui, “We collapsed the sewer tunnel, but behind the walls, beyond, I saw the start of natural caverns. Probably convenient to build a municipal drain system in those… and probably convenient to hide out in. The sewer’d give access to most points in town and nobody looks there.”
Just in case these humans have a longer memory than most, Jormund will ask around with guards, “Anybody know anything about an older cave system that predates the Amphail sewers… under the town? Who might know more ‘bout such?”

Hey All, I thought Vedui and Jormund were having a conversation. I can continue with the guards.
History check for the guards 16
Jormund, the guards don't know anything, unfortunately. You suspect there are more qualified historians in town. There may be records in the town hall, or you could ask around.
Vedui thinks. "Should we consider some lantern oil? Perhaps some fire to keep these rats back if we run into another swarm."
"How much oil y'think we need?" Jormund says, patting his pack. "Tell ye true, I'm more concerned for how we get our hands on one o' them cloaks next chance we get. They keep gettin' the jump on us... how to jump them?"

Firth appeared to be stable, and is topside with members of the city guard if you want to talk more with him as well.

Vedui is unclear at the dwarfs advice.... "You want to go back down here and check around the rubble we just dropped?"
You all were at the north center sewer entrance, and were headed northeast.

Based on the group thread, where do you reenter the sewer, if that is what you want to do?
