Mist rolls his eyes at Aubric and mutters "Good talk, friend..." whileturning to follow Gintarou.
Peeking out from behind the mountain of a man, Mist listens to Bolo's response and asks "So... You could go to any cliff or mountain for what you're doin' but, for some reason, you've chosen to invade a cult's temple and get on their nerves?" He chuckles and shakes his head after stepping out from behind the tree trunk of a leg. "Boyo, that's the kind of tale I usually tell of a man what's not comin' back for supper after a series of bad decisions."
The little halfling stops with a thoughtful expression on his face. After a moment he continues. "Tell you what: Why don't we come to a mutually-beneficial agreement? This church of crazies... I mean 'believers'... need some quiet to prepare for their doomsday... I mean 'ascension' ... ritual tonight. If you'll pause your work until tomorrow morning, we can provide you a safety net of sorts to make sure you don't die in the event your hairbrained machinations don't work on your trial run." Mist raises an eyebrow and looks inquiringly at the dwarf. "It's a fair deal. You should take it."
"First off, when I got here no one was her so... THEY." And he jesters to the followers of the Oarsman, "are invading on me, and THEY, are getting on MY nerves. Yes I could use any mountain, but I was told about this spier and I came. As for my 'hairbrained' idea, are you offering to go up the mountain with me?"
"We plan on going up the mountain tomorrow," Druquilla remarks joining the conversation. "You can join us if you want, and if you take the night off working you might just see something humorous."
"This idiot," Druquilla motions towards Mist. "Is going to lead those idiots." Druquilla motions towards the followers. "In some sort of ritual, or sermon of some type. Either way it should end spectacularly and be worth a few laughs."
"You better listen to my friends. Our elf possesses wisdom. And our halfling is craz… a little bit eccentric but somehow luck and gods always favor him " Gintarou smiles at the dwarf. "Faith gives people strength but at the same time it makes them unpredictable and dangerous. Especially when it relates to some important rituals. You didn't climb this high to just fight with those… Let's say believers. If you come with us, at least I can guarantee that we won't disturb your work. You can get a bonus too. I'll tell you something that you might be interested in. It's about flying halflings. And they didn't use any magic…"
Kraven listens to everyone speaking with an incredulous look on his face that most don't recognize, This is so not going to end well and I need to be prepared for anything.
Bolo lowers his voice, "These people are a little crazy. And I do like laughing at them. But yes, tomorrow I would be heading up, but I must finish first, would any of you be able to help." When Gentarou says something about Halflings flying, he gets excited.
At that Bolo starts barking orders to Kraven on how to help him with the build, he does manage to finish everything now with the help from Kraven.
Is there anything anyone wants to do before night fall, other than Mist studding what he needs to do? I am of course assuming that Mist is going to read, I have a feeling that I am wrong.
Mist intended to offer Bolo one of the feather tokens (assuming they're feather fall ones) but if he's happy with just Kraven's assistance...waste not, want not!
The diminutive knave will find a quiet space either outside or in a secluded corner or room and set to reading the book in its entirety. Twice. Scrawling notes in the margins with the quill and ink he 100% knew he'd have a use for when he picked his starting equipment. -_- He doesn't rejoin the group until Sister Selka or one of the leaders comes to get him.
Night has fallen, the sky is clear and the moon is extra bright. Outside of the temple there is a giant oar, about 20-30 feet tall, carved from stone. A stone preacher’s pulpit is in front of the oar, with a ship carved from wood on it. Everyone is gathered, and Sister Selka is standing front and center, with Mist nowhere to be seen. Bolo has even come out and in the back of the group.
Sister Selka speaks “Brother and Sisters, we have come to give thanks for all that the Oarsman has done for us, and all that he will do. We come to pay for the Oarsman safe traves in the Astral Plane, rowing his ship with this oar.” And she motions to the Spire itself. “Praise to the Oarsman.”
And everyone responds with. “Let him row our ships of life safely.”
Selka continues, “We have a real treat today, High Priest Mist, of Greyhaven has journeyed to the Spire and has agreed to lead us into day's worship. High Priest Mist.”
At this she motions her hand to her right and from behind a bolder walks who you can only assume to be Mist. He is wearing a poorly put together, for lack of words in D&D language, a halloween costume, of an Oar, the paddle of which is being worn as a large hat (Think pope hat but bigger, less stable, and an Oar.)
“Hello my fellow rowers!” Mist speaks in a loud voice, “Let him row our boats… I mean ships of life safely.”
And the congregation repeats after him.
“Today we gather before family and friends to bear witness to the marriage, no wait wrong one…. Ummmm… Oh yeah we gather to celebrate when the Rower… I mean Oarsman’s ascension to the Astermeteral Plane, when he became a god. May he row safely.”
And the congregation eccos “May he row safely.”
“We will shale pray for his protection now. Ummmmm…. Oh yes assume the position.” and Mist goes into a squatting position as if sitting, and hands out on what one could see to be an oar. But the group looks at him lost.
“Have you never assumed the position to pray?!” Mist yells almost in anger. “Get like the Oarsman once was, and row the boat, I mean ship.” Mist pauses while everyone gets in the position he was showing them. “Now we all close our eyes in hope to see the Great Rower, I mean Oarsman.” Once everyone has their eyes closed Mist points and mocks a silent laugh. “Ohh Great Oarsman we come to you todaaayyyyyyy, what the hell is that!” and the prayer is interrupted by both Mist’s out burst and the scream of a person.
You all look and there is a cloud surrounding a single member of the congregation. The cloud looks to be in a humanoid figure and the person is being lifted off the ground. Then another and another, and another, a total of 7 cloud golems have grabbed someone and lifted them into the air, 2 of the golems have 2 people, one has three and the remaining 4 are trying to grab their second person.
What do you do?
(Reminder if you chose to move into combat. NO need for an initiative roll, the initiative order is PCs, NPC, then Monsters
Mist hesitates, standing there with mouth hanging open. He clearly didn't expect anything like this.
If the group attacks or takes some sort of action, it'll shake up out of it and he'll follow suit. But he's currently caught flat-footed and not fully processing the scene.
Gintarou watches over the ritual from a slightly separated place. His expression is humble. But if you look closely, you will find that his chin is quivering. The warrior is secretly pinching his thigh and using the pain to suppress the strong urge to laugh.
His trial doesn't last long. As soon as the strange cloud creature appears, Guntarou abandons his position and runs up to Mist. Drawing the magical greatsword from sheath, the warrior shouts to the priestess. "Sister Selka! Are these creatures related to your ritual? They don't look holy to me!"
Druquilla stands close to Gintarou doing a worse job at hiding here laughter at the whole ritual. After a short outburst upon seeing Mist come out from behind the rock Druquilla bites down on her tongue to keep herself quiet with her head turned down and away to try to keep anyone from noticing. Her joyous mood is cut short through as she watches the clouds decend and start pulling people into the sky.
"By the seas themselves," she exclaims. "Is this how this thing was supposed to end?" Druquilla unshoulders her new bow and knocks an arrow incase one of the cloud things come for her.
The scream from Sister Selka is more than enough for Aubric as he runs full speed toward the closest person being lifted. As he moves you see a dark blade that looks to be made of pure shadow, but somehow shining light as well, seem to extend from his hand. (casting Shadow Blade) Aubric also begins to softly sing a song of hope and penance (activate Bladesong)
Well this is going worse than I thought it would go, I assume I would be defending Mist from the "sheep" not whatever these cloud things are, As Kraven moves within 60' of the nearest one and lets loose two daggers at the creature.

Then seeing the cloud creatures he is ready to summon his daggers and start throwing but he will wait to see what happens next.
