Looking to run Lost Mine of Phandelver for 3-5 player as a starting adventure for a team of misfits.
Stats generation will be random. Roll 4d6 and drop the lowest. Stats taken in order. (2 stats 15 or higher to be valid)
Looking for a team of misfit characters. You'll start at level 2 if you bring a character with an uncommon Race/Class combo. (Not looking for Halfling Rogues and Goliath Barbarians.)
(Will juice up the challenge appropriately for higher levels.)
Once we have our players we'll flesh out backstories.

Meet Me in Phandalin. You are in the city of Neverwinter when your dwarf patron and friend, Gundren Rockseeker, hires you to escort a wagon to Phandalin. Gundren has gone ahead with a warrior, Sildar Hallwinter, to attend to business in the town while you follow with the supplies. You will be paid 10 gp by the owner of Barthen’s Provisions in Phandalin when you deliver the wagon safely to that trading post.
I've got a Fire Genasi druid called Spark. I plan to focus on spellcasting but I'm flexible with what the party ends up needing but having rolled the stats it turns out he is a bruiser. Character sheet is (Placeholder while rolling). Not sure what else to post if we're waiting on backstory, is there anything else I should do to be ready?

<I can't believe the dwarf left me behind and took his hired muscle with him, instead of finishing this job first!> Spark grumbled inwardly as the cart made the seemingly interminable trek to his next destination, Phandalin. <I guess there's nothing to do but wait and give him a piece of my mind when we arrive. It'll be worth the trip I suppose, I really can use that ten gold...> Glancing back the genasi decided despite not being able to find a living there, he would definitely try to return to Neverwinter when the weather started to grow cold again.
Roll the stats then decide what they fit with. The idea is to not come in with a preconceived character.
Alright I accidentally deleted the health roll on that original post, so it flagged it as manipulating dice rolls. It won't let me roll back the post, can we use your quote as proof of that stat block?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Puff - Air Genasi Fighter (1), Coliseum of Conquest (recruiting) Ramon - Dwarf Ranger (2), Lost Mines of Phandelver
I will be playing Malakadin the Goliath Bard, he is of noble birth being the 3rd son of the Chieftan. His tribe differs from other Goliath tribes however as they live near the base of a large mountain range, their village is quite large and is modernizing quite quickly. They have several trade agreements with the Dwarven Clans who inhabit the underside of the mountain. Malakadin has chosen to honor his family by expanding his knowledge of the world outside the village with hopes that the things he learns can help continue to push the tribe into being more prosperous.
Is there a campaign we can join here on DND Beyond with our characters?
I'd be down for this. Lets see where the dice take me.
Attempt 1: Ability scores: 121515141515
Attempt 2: Ability scores: 131114101415
Attempt 3: Ability scores: 121499815
Attempt 4: Ability scores: 131118111815 Valid roll selecting this option
Looks like the dice took me in a charismatic way. I put forth a scourge Asimar Storm sorcerer charlatan named Sol. He is not always so honest about his past, or present for that matter. Sol goes by many names but has an alternate identity named Casper Parrish. Months prior Sol had fleeced a member of the local guard and has since taken up the guise of Casper as to avoid unwanted attention. As far as attention goes though Casper and Sol are both very much slaves of a pretty face, though he would never let anyone know they had any power over him.
We'll begin as soon as everyone has accepted the invite.
For reference:
Bold text is out of game (OOG) ((I can try setting up a discord server if everyone would like to use that for larger OOG conversations to keep the thread focused on the action. Otherwise I'll setup a Private message Thread for us all to use. )
Italics is speech - Feel free to color or manipulate for your character if you want.
Normal is narration
If you need to update on mobile don't stress about formatting. Just come back if you remember about it clean it up. (The mobile formatting system is...not great.)
In combat we will start with the standard initiative system. If you guys would like to experiment with alternative initiative systems we can do that too. See how it goes.
When making an action that requires a check (or you think it requires a check) roll dice for it when you make the action. If I think it's another ability check I'll let you know and we can re-roll.
If you guys are ok with it I can apply experience to your characters as we go. That will make it easier to track I can apply for things not strictly combat. (Of course I'll work to keep you guys close in levels.)
Let me know if you have any questions or things we should agree upon here at the beginning.
Let's have everyone introduce their character and share anything we would want to know.
Eldon was your typical rock gnome tinkering with various devices, adding, removing, tweaking, changing sometimes exploding his devices. Until one device worked only too well and somehow awakened the sleeping dragon blood within him. And after the explosion of the device, Eldon realised that not only is he relatively unharmed, but he can also do magic now. With the typical gnomish enthsiasm he now searches for now spells, new powers, and new ways to combine them. The fact that gnome sorcerers are somewhat "uncommon" does not concern him in the slightest.
I user Fixed for HP for my character. I can change it and roll it if that's the way we go.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As mentioned above, I will play Ramón the mountain dwarf ranger.
Ramón's father was killed by a boar on a trip out of the mountains, and the dwarf (being young and foolish) swore revenge. He trained to be able to live in and understand the forest, but only after killing the boar realized he actually enjoyed being out in nature. He decided to go off and see what else he was missing in his mountain home, especially since his interest in the outdoors made him something of an outcast in his clan. None of this has shaken his dedication to the dwarven ideals of justice he learned while growing up, making him a fierce enemy of threats to civilized people in general and those who attack allies or innocents in particular.
Standard initiative is fine, and letting you manage xp sounds good to me. Do you care if we roll for health, or should we use the fixed number? I chose to just take equipment for my starting level, is there an amount of gold I should add since we're starting at level 2? I'm relatively new to 5e, I know that's how it worked in 3.5 but am not sure here .-.
Health roll unless nixed: 9
See spoiler for explanation of technical difficulties.
the original roll didn't work, so I redid it. When it processed the second roll, the first one came up as 7. I realize that sounds sketchy but I can't delete it without getting the "potentially manipluated dice roll" message. I'm hiding it in a spoiler just to keep it out of the way. I'm happy to take the 6 if you'd prefer, either way.
Sol- Or Casper Parrish as he has been going by lately due to a situation with the local guards as Sol (had fleeced a number of guards in a game of dice with his trusty weighted dice) is a very secretive Aasimar. Well rather, he will tell you all about himself, but most likely none of it is true. He may occaisionally tell you something that contradicts something he has said in the past. And if questioned on it he'll tell you that he was talking about one of his alter ego's (he is happy to slip on a new guise at a moments notice to avoid or gain attention as desired). He has made it through this world thus far one con at a time, never finding a place or persons he felt entirely at home. He has fallen for many a pretty face and subsequently found himself moving on. Looking for that true sense of belonging, Sol always keeps himself moving.
I'm good with you controlling XP as we go. Also would prefer standard initiative. Everything seems like its ready to get the ball rolling!
Grol was lucky. Though only half Orc, his tribe accepted him withought question. He had seen how others of his type had been exiled by ther clans, and understood what a rare gift Ilneval, The Hallowed Warmaker had given him. Raised in the traditions of his tribe, he was taught to revere and embrace the teachings of Ilneval and had been hand selected to succeede the tribal shaman. One day, while hunting, his party was ambushed by a large troop of goblins. His party massacred and left for dead, he was discovered by monks who saved him and restored him to health. Again, Ilneval had delivered him from death and bestowed yet another blessing to him. From that point on, Grol dedicated himself to the service of Ilneval and to those who cannot stand for themselves,
I’m good with you doing standard HP or rolling for it. Let’s just show the rolls if we do. Build out with your starting equipment. We we will assume some financial achievement in that first level. Roll 4d4 x 2 GP. Trade things in for their standard value if you need it.
Im going to beef up the challenge so be equipped but not super powered.

So, keeping in mind an uncommon combo that matches the stats, how about a Rock Gnome Sorcerer?
Cool.
I'll bite, I always have loved this concept of character creation!

Second one fits the bill it appears.
Going with the first roll i did as you suggested, which was 18 10 15 13 13 13. I made Ramón, the mountain dwarf ranger.
