For a while, I've been debating starting my own adventure as all the campaigns I have been in as a player were cut off at the very beginning, and I noticed how many people are looking for a group to join.
Looking for 3-5 players. A balanced party is encouraged, but I will try to be flexible and work with what I got.
Term: short, single adventure
Character creation: starting at 5th level, PHB races and classes + Critical Role + other official, tested out content allowed (no UA, please), home-brew backgrounds are fine just check in with me beforehand. For stats, point buy, standard array and rolling is all fine (reroll 1s once, can switch method if one does not work out). I will try to provide help with creating PC's if needed. You can manage your character sheet through this site but it is not a must.
About the adventure: Been thinking of the following short story. Note that it's very simple, nothing overly elaborate or epic.
It is early fall. Traveling through the land, the adventurers stop at a village - or perhaps it is their destination - and are asked by a Halfling man to help him slay a group of monsters causing harm to his home. The problem is, the locals claim he has a tendency to see beasts in every corner.
Setting: classic medieval fantasy, uses Forgotten Realms as the base but the places are not integrated into the setting.
About the DM: I am perfectly inexperienced (barely dipped my toes into the game as a player), but willing to learn through trial and error and doing my research. Been co-hosting RPs unrelated to d&d before. I am not a native English speaker but can communicate my ideas quite confidently (in terms of language use, not charisma). Would be very open to work with people new to d&d and answer many questions, but would be happy to see anyone come who's willing to be patient about my learning process.
Feel free to ask anything that wasn't clear or that I forgot about; and please let me know if you would be interested, since the feedback is needed to decide if the recruitment should start at all.
Are you familiar with Xanathar's guide to everything? Most of my builds include things from there. I don't mind limiting to PBH if necessary. Also can we roll (reroll ones at all?) and then back off to point buy if necessary?
Hello I, myself is still working on the rules of Dungeons & Dragons. If it's okay for you then I am willing to join your game and help your learning. :)
I'm interested in joining. Have quite some experience as both DM and player at the table (and now roll20), but haven't got any experience in Play by post. I am excited to try this way of play (so there will be some learning for me as well ;))
Background: After being led to the Feywild by a Fey creature, was stuck there for several years. In being there developed his ranger skills. Eventually leading to some attunement to the planes, which in turn lead him to using his new found abilities to find a portal from the Feywild back to the Material plane. He has just arrived back in the material plane no clue where he is exactly. After learning someone is in need of muscle power to help slay monsters he welcomes the distraction and is eager to learn how his newfound skills can be used in the material plane.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
I'm interested. Ability scores: 12818131417
Name: Anastria Nailo
Race: Drow
Class: Monk(Way of Shadow)
Backstory: Anastria has lighter skin than most drow, resembling a moon elf, and was raised as an assassin in Menzoberranzan. Her hair was dyed black, she went to Melee-Magthere(The fighter's school), and received special unarmed training with only two years of training at Arach-Tinilith(One tenth of the normal duration of training at the priest's school of Menzoberranzan). She was sent to the surface when she was 70 and receives orders through a drow outpost close to the surface. Recently the outpost was destroyed by demons and she was no longer given targets. Since then she has taken up a false identity and become an adventurer out of curiosity.
Wow Luck is on my side. I got really pretty numbers. I will choose High Elf evocation wizard. Because it's the most basic wizard and suits for beginner DM and Players learning how D&D magic works.
Name: Luciferazen Von Weise Pflaume ( Lucy )
Race: High Elf
Class: Wizard Evocation School
Background:
Lucy is a adventurous Elf girl who left her home land for seeking enjoying and excitement. She loves spells, especially damaging spell. Although she like more than anything to see pitiful goblin or bandits running away from burning flame, Lucy is a quite level headed and good adventurer…… for most of the times.
backstory: Bizath the kobald was born a regular kobald. he was drafted into the army when he was young. when he was sent to battle, it was too much, and he fled. he found a home in a remote forest, where the sargents and conscriptors could not find him and bring him back to the army. he only companion was his bagpipes, and in his years of solitude, he became a true master. he discovered the secrets of musical power, and, over time, he became less afraid of being brought back to the army. after 7 years, he left and began to travel the world, sharing his music with others.
character motivations and personality: meet Bizath the kobald: he is easily frighted, and very fragile. he is motivated by his passion of music, and wanting to share it with others.
want more information about the character? just ask! I'm also just going to say that I love playing with new DMs, and I hope you enjoy DMing!
EDIT: after looking at those stats... there not bad, there really good... just sooo boring.... may I reduce the 13 to a 9? its not fun (IMO) to play a character who's good at EVERYTHING.
EDIT: ok, it wsa pointed out that you said no UA. sorry. I fixed it to a non UA build. although, I have to say, this one one is so much less fun... *shrug*
backstory: Bizath was created by a hag, to do its bidding. I did what it told me to for a long while, too long for me to remember. finally, one day, the hag told me to bring a gift to a lich, in hopes of making an alliance. when I arrived, the lich looked upon my sorry state, and saw an opportunity for gain. the lich offered to free me, in return for me helping it occasionally. I instantly accepted. the magic of his freeing me changed me however, infusing me with eldritch energy.
character motivations and personality: Bizath it motivated by trying to figure his life out. when he was controlled by the hag, he had no control over what to do, but life was easy. after he was freed, he had no idea what to do with his life. ever since, he had been searching for what to do with his life. he acts lost and confused, although kind. he dopes not talk much about his past, and is forbidden by the lich to talk about the lich at all.

No UA is allowed, but I do hope you make it. And I agree with you. I'm playing a character who's worst stat is a 15 and he's kind of boring.
Oh, dear, I honestly didn't expect this much attention. As for reducing stats for more flavour (or fun in gameplay), it is perfectly fine.
I am happy to see you all interested and will close the thread soon, as we already have the right amount of players. For those who don't have their characters yet but expressed interest already, you all can send them here or in private messages (even if the thread will be labelled as closed). I only require a name, stats, race, class and a little snippet of backstory (if anyone has a detailed one, I will appreciate it very much as well).

Lot's of stuff ...
I'd say - and I 'll edit the main post - any official content is fine for me that it is already tested and not kommonly known as insanely overpowered.
Moving from rolling to point buy is okay, also feel free to reroll 1s once.
