Roused from her slumber by a cat paw, Delanra checks herself for cat hairs. Shake immediately realises that with the amount of inter beast fighting, her dress will have to go and be cleaned again after all this. Angered at the thought, she moves towards the swarm attacking Hayle, speaks a strange language, more akin to hissing than the common tongue, and plays her hands out. A mustard coloured spray shoot from her covering the rats but miraculously missing Hayle to any significant degree. Delanra then backs away not wanting to risk drawing the swarm to her.
Movement: x feet to bring me 10ft away from Hayle
Action: Poison Spray Rat swarm to make a DC 13 CON save or take 11 poison damage
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The swarm rushes toward Hayle, and she braces for the impact. Fortunately, their attempts to attack have thus far been ineffectual. Still, the sooner the fight was over, the better. The skittering of feet and claws across her legs was disturbing, but there was little she could do to get away from them. She would need to kill them to do that. Quickly she moves the tentacle over to her side and it attacks the rats Climbing on her. 11 Damage: 4 (reduce speed by 10ft on hit).
Then, if the rats are still there, she carefully draws the beams of energy in, releasing them carefully to avoid her legs. If the rats have been killed, she will target the next closest swarm. (Eldritch Blast) Attack: 12 Damage: 1.
Halis swings awkwardly at the rats as they flee to more tempting prey but misses. He follows them to the other side of the room and takes a couple mighty swings directly at Hayle, who tenses, trusting in her friend's martial prowess but also not being one to volunteer to have an apple shot off her head. With sickening precision, the paladin finishes off the last of that swarm in a spatter of gore.
Syl curses under his breath and tries stabbing at the rats infesting his pants once again. He connects and skewers another 5 in one thrust down his leg!
Redirecting Delanra's and Hayle's attacks since the target is already dead.
Delanra pivots, thinking quickly as she sees her kalashtar companion sprays the last of Hayle's passengers' guts across the floor. She moves to Syl and lets loose a puff of noxious gas to envelopes the rats anxiously looking for more cheese.
The rats don't seem affected by the gas. In fact, a few pause to retort with their own noxious cloud before skittering further up Syl's form.
Hayle tries to swipe the vermin off of her friend with the spectral tentacle and a concurrent blast of arcane energy but Syl jumps back, yelling something about having seen this cartoon before and to keep that filthy thing away from him.
Somewhere across the room, you hear another worg fall with a yowl followed by frantic squeaks after its large form crushes another swarm of rats.
3 swarms left including the one you're currently engaged with. 2 worgs still in it.
With the party focused on the one remaining swarm that it's engaged with, the rats double down, knowing they're all but lost, make eye contact, and chomp down on Syl one (possibly) final, defiant time.
"Agh!"Hayle grunts in frustration as her attacks fail to have any impact on the rats, only to have the creatures ripped away by Syl. "Thanks,"she calls out to her friend as she turns to see the vermin swarming over her saviour. Syl was being overwhelmed. Hoping to repay the favour, she directs the tentacle toward the swarm and unleashes another blast of energy.
Tentacle - 5 Damage: 4 (reduce speed by 10ft on hit). Eldritch Blast - 25 Damage: 10.
Delanra, fuming at her complete lack of doing anything positive since freeing a cat, starts to swirl her hands, creating a writhing jumble of energy in front of her. With a push, the mass flies at the rat swarm.
Behind you, yet another swarm of rats is finished off by the combined might of the remaining worgs and King Morpholomew.
Syl collapses under the strain of his injuries. It looks like he might've hit his head on the way down.
Hayle's tentacle swings wide, missing the swarm as it roils and parts just out of the way but her follow up blast sears through the ranks of rats as 10 more fall to the floor dead.
Halis' first blow dispatches the last of the vermin and his backswing rips an already dead rat in half.
Seeing that the last of the rats you're engaged with have been dispatched, Delanra wheels around to help the worgs and makes a last ditch effort to rally behind a powerful spell and it connects! The vast majority of the final swarm convulses as one and falls to the floor, twitching as their nerves haven't yet registered their death.
King Morpholomew steps over to the few remaining rats, and, in a flurry of fur and claws, thoroughly dismantles the final threat.
A sudden silence falls over the room. The heavy breathing of the worgs is the loudest sound you can hear as everyone assesses the situation.
Morpholomew looks down to Syl and dashes around the desk, pulling open its large drawers and compartments, scattering their contents.
"Ah! 'Ere, 'ive 'im 'is. Quickry!" He scampers back around the desk with a vile in his mouth. He flicks his head and flings it to Halis.
Sorry... "Ah! Here, give him this. Quickly!" but while talking around a bottle in his mouth.
You unstopper the container, pour the bright red liquid contents into Syl's mouth, and he awakens with a start.
Morpholomew looks to the worgs and simply says, "Go. Protect your Lord." They snort in compliance and bound out the shattered front door, into the night.
Turning back to you, the exceptionally large black cat sits on his haunches and regards you thoughtfully for a long moment before continuing.
"For all my years as King and head of the Congress, I've worried that another feline would try to take the throne by force. But never in all that time could I have anticipated it would be attempted through such nefarious means as allying with the rats! Asparagus has tread a dangerous path. His failure will be paid for with his life, whether in death or exile. However, I am utterly certain his plot would have succeeded if it hadn't been for your band of intrepid adventurers! You have my eternal thanks and that of all cats throughout Neverwinter. Should you ever find yourselves in trouble in our fair city, just find the nearest feline and I will bring the full power of the Congress of Cats to bear and provide whatever assistance I am able."
Just then, a familiar slender Russian grey leaps through a broken window and alights gracefully near Morpholomew.
Roll initiative...
Just kidding.
"My king!" Bombalina exclaims and she bounds over and begins to nuzzle Morpholomew, as cats do. Now that she's closer, you can see her fur is matted and mottled with spots of blood.
"I saw Ungrulf chasing that wicked Miestro through the streets. I...intervened. Unless she has powerful clerics hiding in the sewers, she won't be causing us any more trouble..." she says as she casually licks one paw and uses it to clean her face. "But come," she continues, "I'll escort you back to the Congress safely. We must hurry as it's almost sunrise!"
Morpholomew rises to his feet, nearly 3 times the size of the graceful grey, and says to you, "I must hurry, now, but I want to help you however I can now rather than wait for you to be in need." He motions toward the desk with his large head, majestic mane swaying in the breeze coming in through the broken door and windows. "You will find a stash of Balink's gold in the bottom drawer. It could never be enough to repay my debt but my hope is that it will serve as a gesture of good faith until we meet again."
And with that, the King of the Cats is lead out into the night by the most fiercely loyal of his subjects and you all, collectively, take a deep breath and begin thinking about what to do tomorrow night.
(This is the end of the adventure but I'd be happy to roleplay any further scenes/conversations if any of you want to wrap things up for your characters either before or after Morpholomew leaves. Thank you all for sticking with this and, yet again, I apologize for the long breaks between some of the posts. Life...uh...finds a way.)
((Yep, thanks for seeig this through all. It was a fun little oneshot, and there were a few very memorable moments. The joy of PbP is that it only takes a bit of reading to pick it up exactly where you left off after a break. ))
Halis swipes at the rats running from him rather clumsily: 8 (doing 8 damage if he actually hits them).
He then charges after the rats on Hayle and takes another swing:
Attack: 11
Damage: 7
Backswing attack: 10
Damage: 6
(if they go down after swing 1, transfer that back attack to Syl's pack please!)
Syl attempts to stab some of the rats off of him...
Attack: 10 Damage: 5
