Hawksley cautiously approaches the cloth bundle and cuts the cloth with a short sword.
OOC: Okay, so, I am going to ask these questions of Wysperia as a player and I am organizing them to make things easier. But Toots is also rattling off this whole long series of questions in character to Hawksley in character as well. Basically these are all coming at him like a machine gun is firing them? Kinda like if someone gave a curious 5 year old a couple double shots of espresso and then said ask whatever they wanted to. So:
The organized OOC version:
Of the rods in general:
How long are the rods? Follow up: If they are not all the same length, do the seem to be roughly the same length, or are they various lengths? (Like, was somebody got “close enough” or is it a set of sizes?)
How much do the rods weigh?
Are the shafts of the rods round or other shapes like hexed?
What diameter are the shafts of the rods? Follow up: Do they flair or taper?
Is the iron smooth or pitted?
Are the shafts of the rods the same the whole length, or are there any variations to them such as a grip or maker’s mark, or other feature anywhere on them?
Do they seem new or old?
Does the end of a hooked shaft fit inside of one of the flanges?
The Hooked Rods:
How many hooked rods are there total?
Do the hooked rods have a hook on either end, or one hook on each end? Follow up: If hooks are on both ends, are the hooks all the same sizes?
The Flanged Rod:
Are the flanges round or other shapes like pentagons, or hexagons or something? Follow up: If they are not circular, are both flanges the same shape or different?
Are both flanges the same diameter and depth?
IC:
“Are both flanges the same size? Do the hooked rods have a hook on either end, or one hook on each end? Are the shafts of the rods the same the whole length, or are there any deferences? How long are they? How heavy are they? Are they round? are the flanges round or something else? How big are the hooks? Are they all the same? How many of them are there? How thick? Do they say anything? Are they rusty? Are they old or new? Do they fit together somehow...?

The rods are 3 1/2 feel long. The same as the length between the wooden discs. They are all the same length.
They weight about 6 pounds.
There are 20 of them.
The shafts are hexagonal and the same 1 inch thickness throughout. The ends have one flat pointed hook facing the same direction.
The iron is smooth and well cared for but you are not able to determine their age.
They could go together like monkey in a barrel but you don't think they're made for that.
The flanged rod looks to have a larger mace head on one end and a smaller mace head on the other. Along the shaft are six buttons.
Hawksley holds up one of the big hooks. "Looks like a fishing gaff. I don't suppose our slime monster was running half-day trophy fishing trips and booze cruises down here."
Yes, somewhat. But more like hooking things together than catching anything.

OOC to Wysperra: Again, just to clarify, both ends have a hook, or one end is hooked and the other is not?
OOC Everyone Else: I think we found how to stop that tipping tilting bridge from doing either, but I’m not sure if Toots would make that connection. Also, this begs the questions:
Why are the here and not in use?
Who put them here and for what reason?
Should we take them and use them, or should we leave them here?
I’m currently drawing a blank on the other one unless it’s supported to be a combination hook pounder inner/remote control.
"Well I've done my fair share of rigging scaffolding for fight events that went well above the top rope, looks like some sort of staging or tent poles ... but I don't get it. This rooms seems like a dead end so I don't know what this gear is here for. Like if these things were designed to make this cloistered off space accessible, it seems sorta bassackwards. I dunno."

OOC Sposta has figured out those hooked poles are to secure together those wooden platforms in the last room which were suspended by chains. It would make a relatively stable bridge so instead of all of that jumping and checks Tommary had to do we could simply hop and walk. That would make it safer to get to the other tunnel that we haven’t explored yet. But like I said, I’m not sure Toots would have figured that out.
OOC: given Tommary's experience in building squared circles ("wrestling rings") I'm pretty sure he's go that sussed. But he is baffled why in this location, wouldn't it make more sense to secure these bundles in another part of the dungeon if the point is to stabilize the swing ... oh unless the Wights were like the labor for that job, hmm.
IC: As Tommary's adrenaline wears off he notices the Wight corpses, "Oh wait, maybe those things were the bridge workers. I still don't get this place though, like the glowing birdbath water you all just quenched (Tommary pulls out his 100% rain water flask ... to protect the purity of his essence he only drinks rainwater and grain alcohol), what's that for?"

"I'm unsure about these things. The hooked rods probably come in a set for a reason, but the flanged one... I don't know. Maybe the buttons do something?"
When the buttons are identified Tommary gasps and rasps "Ahhh! Push It!" and breaks into an a cappella rendition of the following until a decision is made on the buttons
Tommary guesses that the rods with hooks on both ends could be used to secure the swing set in the mud room. It would make crossing with the wooden discs trivial instead of harrowing.
While Oethe fiddles with the overlong mace like thing, Toots rubs her chin and thinks, you know that looks like it might be some kind of magical type thing.

OOC: HAHA! I was kidding.
The party hears something like a muffled clatter from the floor. Oethe and Toots see the 3-4 foot long bundle of cloth fall to the floor.

There are several metal rods with hooks on either end and one rod that has flanged heads on both ends.

The other bundles are similar. Long iron rods with hooks on the ends. But there is only one rod with flanged ends.
