The fiscal reasons are obvious. The Dragonlance roll-out last year was, shall we say, "underwhelming". EOne had been sold off. Hasbro had been burned on the financial failure of the movie. But still.....
It should be noted they didn't "cancel" anything. Joe was in the process of pitching a Dragonlance show and one of his inroads was via people he knew at eOne. However, since Hasbro (not WotC) sold that company, he's lost that inroad and WotC hasn't shown interest in picking up his pitch. You can't cancel something that hasn't actually even started.

Maybe WoTC doesn't have the bandwidth (and resources) to commit to a follow-up to Honor Among Thieves and Dragonlance.
Started playing 1e in the late 70s and stopped in the mid-80s. Started immersing myself into 5e in the last year.
