Thank you for this. This is just what I needed. My players are going to be on a train and I was going to make one of the carts a mimic and you gave me the states needed to do so.
Possible? Absolutely. So possible, that time has reversed its flow temporarily to arrange matters so that I have already done it! Ah, the wonders of wizardry.... With variations to boot so you can choose one appropriate for your party!
I just found this article and oh my gosh finally someone who shares my obsession with mimics I can’t wait to see more from you hopefully some new Halloween mimics with the holiday coming up
There might not be any more Halloween mimics this year. I'm having a difficult time thinking up anything not already covered by a previous mimic I've produced. They fact that I'm also OCD about presenting them with an image of some kind doesn't help much either.
I'm a bit iffy about a mimic that can become another playable race, even if that race is artificial. It sort of begins to blur the line between mimic and doppleganger. But, if a DM wanted a mimic that became a warforged, I would recommend using an Armor Mimic.

Perhaps in the future. I've been on-again-off-again working on a mimic sailing vessel, which could likely be converted easily into a spelljamming ship. But before I make that conversion, I need to finish the ship as it is (as a base to start with) and await the release of more detailed spelljamming rules for 5e beyond few item descriptions and passing rule patches.
It isn't out of the question, but the truth is this is kind of a backburner project; one I work on when I get a sudden inspiration, but not one I focus on in particular. Once I have enough time and content to warrant compiling, I may put it all together as a single document, but given how versatile mimics are, it would continually change and update.
The initial compilation in itself would be a significant undertaking, given the number I already have. The continual upkeep of such a document as new mimics are produced would require more of the same as the format is reworked and rebalanced in order to remain presentable and intelligible.

I've started working on this myself linking this thread as the source. It's in a PHB type style. I just began starting on the stat block sections, figured I'd just work on it over time and hopefully have it done by the end of the new year.
I have finally gotten this one to a point that I'm comfortable releasing it. The entry is pretty lengthy, so I won;t be putting it directly in this thread. Rather: here is the link to the homebrew:
How is this not pinned? Absolutely amazing information. I had this fun idea of having my players find a really nice weapon that turned out to be a mimic. The thing is that it wouldn't make itself apparent until the player tried to use the weapon in combat, at which point the mimic would panic and attack.
I would recommend handing your players an item card outlining the Mimic Weapon, but change the name and remove everything from "The weapon has a 50% chance of actually being a mimic." and below. Then, if/when you decide to reveal the weapon as a mimic, hand them the full version of the item card.

Would it be possible if you could make a wizard mimic?
Begone foul troglodytes for if not, I Rorsch the Dwarf will eat you instead.

How about a warforged mimic.

Have you considered adding this to DnD beyond as an actual selectable race?

If you mean mimics as a race, I have. See the Mimic Race page.

Could you put this all into a single google document?
