Hello, and welcome to my new forum. In this forum, I will be posting puzzles randomly and will provide the answer after a week or so. Feel free to comment on what you think the answer is.
"As you enter the room, you see humanoids chained to the walls of the room, as all of you step inside, the door behind you slams shut. You closely see that there is 1 drow female, 2 deep gnomes, and 1 half-orc. In the center of the room, an altar stands alone, upon it you see a dagger with a faint magical blood red aura. Its edges are sharp to the touch but is fragile and will break upon impact."
Imyra Aleafin- A female drow, she was once the commander of a drow search party, however, was captured by Kalash and served him, until he accused her of stealing treasure from his hoard. She was then taken to this room to show adventurers what happens when you betray him.
Snagglind Leadfingers- A male deep gnome, his tribe of deep gnomes stumbled upon the temple ruins, Kalash promised that they could excavate here as long as they give him half of the findings. He stole from Kalash's deal and kept an artifact. Kalash found out and punished him by putting him here.
Landi Earthshovel- A female deep gnome, she was in Snagginds tribe. She was imprisoned for the murder of one of Kalash's guards during an excavation trip. She now hangs on the room's walls.
Dale the Damned- A male half-orc, he was a mage coming down in search of the magical item. He then discovered Kalash and tried to betray him and steal the magical item by worshiping him. He was caught and Kalash was furious that one of his loyal servants would betray him, so Kalash chained him up in this dark room.\

Can you figure out who to kill? Good luck!
I like your idea of a puzzle every week. However, there actually isn't any incentive to kill anyone in this room. There's a magical dagger on an alter and 4 people locked up, but nowhere is the party told someone has to die or someone has to be sacrificed. Assuming this is an oversight and killing someone actually is the answer to the puzzle, I would first make a check to see what I knew about Kalash (because the only thing that comes up when I google is the kalashtar race). But if I wanted to make Kalash happy I would kill Imyra because she is the only one that wasn't "punished by being chained up" the punishment was to show the adventurers what happens when you betray him. If I didn't want to make Kalash happy, I would probably not kill anyone, but instead release all the prisoners lol
First, I don't think there is enough information. I would like to know who Kalash is. I would also like to know why I would need to kill any of them.
Regardless, assuming I needed to kill one, I would kill Dale for one simple reason: He is the only one who's story holds. Imyra was accused of stealing, but it was not stated that she actually stole anything. Snagglind had a way open to him to keep the artifact without breaking the deal, all he had to do was supply a different artifact in place of it, as that was the nature of the deal, half the findings. Landi was imprisoned for a murder, but that doesn't mean the murder was her work, only that she was imprisoned for it. Dale, however, seems to come from the surface and as a half-orc, could easily trick Kalash into thinking he didn't have any magic, then steal a magic item and attempt to escape.
Still, personally, I would probably just assassinate Kalash, take his stuff and run. Maybe free the prisoners if I had time.
One might infer that the dagger on the altar is the object in which Imyra is accused of stealing, that Snagglind is accused of keeping, that Landi used to commit murder, and that Dale was attempting to find. My solution - due to the fact that it is stated that the dagger is "fragile and would break upon impact" - would be to shatter the dagger.
Wow - the parallels here between the puzzle posting vs. the puzzle answers and "DM envisions the Party behaving in such-and-such a manner in this situation, and the Players do something totally different" are staggering :D

Ok, my fault. I forgot to throw in some information. The one who is called Kalash is not, in fact, a Kalashar, he is an evil beholder who thinks of himself as a God. The door that connects to the next room is locked and cannot be opened by any magical means, other than a knock spell, but the players are only lvl 1. Also, the dagger will instantly kill the prisoners because they are all down to 1 hitpoint and are restrained.
Sorry for the lack of information and I will post the answer either tomorrow or Sunday.
Still have no prompt to kill anyone, simply locked in a room with a magically sealed door, a knife, and some people chained up. How about this slight change, it adds a reason to use the knife and adds a failure condition to create a sense of urgency.
1st Puzzle-
"As you enter the room, you see humanoids chained to the walls of the room, as all of you step inside, the door behind you slams shut. You closely see that there is 1 drow female, 2 deep gnomes, and 1 half-orc. In the center of the room, an altar stands alone, upon it you see a dagger with a faint magical blood red aura. Its edges are sharp to the touch but is fragile and will break upon impact."
A mysterious voice calls out telepathically to you, "Speak to the poor souls chained about the room, learn of their misdeeds. Once you have heard their tales choose the one who has truly betrayed me. If you choose properly you will be released from this room, choose poorly and you will quicken your demise.
As the voice fades a faint hiss can be heard and a sickly green miasma begins to fill the room, covering the floor in its entirety. It's fairly obvious what your demise will be...

The information about Kalash can be learned by searching books, finding other bits of information scattered about before they reach this room, and finally by talking to the NPCs before making their decision.
Wanna come back with the answer? I was googling puzzles involving gnomes and this popped up. Doesn't work for what I need in a couple days but now I'm curious lol.
I forgot to post the answer to the riddle, and its entirely my fault for just forgetting about this forum.
Keep in mind, this riddle was made VERY early in my DM year, so the answer is not obvious and quite hard to figure out.
The key to answering this riddle is actually to look at the very last names of the prisoners. If you take the first letter of each last name, it spells out Dale. Now looking back to the riddle, the players would just think its a coincidence, which its actually the key to solving it.
Due to me forgetting about this forum, I will try to delete it in the future (A couple of days probably) since I forgot about it.
Sorry to keep you all waiting, and I apologize for the solution to the riddle, it was not hinted at all and I am sorry.

Kill yourself, roll up a new character. Problem solved.

If forced to pick quickly... I would go with the half-orc, since his name contains the letters to spell "Dead Man". *shrug*
