There are many other creatures form other monster manuals from long ago that I would like to add into my campaign. How would I go about getting them added to my encounter list? Do I have to homebrew each monster-basically copying the description from a previous book and adding it as a homebrew monster? For example, I like the giant forms of creatures like giant rats, giant wasps, giant weasels, etc. from the very first Monster Manual. Then, what if I don't know all of the creatures attributes, like strength, intelligence, etc. because they aren't listed in the Monster Manual?
Yes, thanks for this list. For the most part these are the "basic" critters that I would like to utilize but I would like to learn how to add my own little critter if need be. I just don't know how to assign attributes like strength, dexterity, etc. to a giant insect or whatever. I'll learn that as I go but your list is very helpful :)

Well, figure out what their attack bonus is and reverse engineer their Str. Figure out their AC and reverse engineer their Dex. Stuff like that.

Short answer is yes, you would have to homebrew if they haven’t already been brought forward to 5e.
you can use the last page here as a guide

btw, odds are someone out there has probably already done it for whatever you’re looking for. I’d search the homebrew section first.

Thanks HeathSmith for the pdf pages. That can be helpful. I will definitely check out homebrews as well. Thanks for the advice.

makes sense-I'll try thinking in that "reversal" way.
