I wish everyone have better luck than I as some people had some truly incredible entrances this time. It's twice as good as the last competition!

One week left to vote. I encourage everyone to respond to the Google Doc I am using to collect votes. As of right now, the number of responses received seems close to the number of responses to the original polls, but maybe one or two short in some places. At the end of the voting period, I will try my best to compile values and figures to reflect the responses received and declare a winner. Because the number of responses is close, I will more than likely default to using the Google Doc to declare a winner, as it is the only one I could better watch for dishonest voting.
In the meantime, I would like to encourage further discussion (especially among those of you who have previously judged CotFB) as to what method should be used for judging moving forward. This version should serve as a testing board for making use of Google Doc, and if that is the preferred method I will be more than happy to share the setup I used with the next judge. I am still intrigued by the possibility of a small judge panel as well, as I think giving the opportunity for written reviews of some entries could be really interesting (but I also see how it could sour things if a competitor feels a judge didnt correctly understand their work).
In any case, very interested to see how this competition ends and how CotFB moves from this point forward

I think that the google doc is probably the best option at present, as it allows the creator to manage it for troll votes. I would like to see each one answerable individually, as in a previous brew I only found time to review about half of one category (all the entries were really long and it was the last day), so couldn't have put an honest review on all of them. Provided people vote contientiously, it shouldn't matter if you get a different number of votes for each one!
I would love to see actual reviews for each of them. I may try to write some up for the next one, time dependant. I will say that it's impossible to get a "5" from me if you have spelling errors or grammatical errors! There were a few 4's knocked down to 3's in this one for just such issues!

I'm the same way with my voting. I count spelling and grammar as "ease of use and reference". It's difficult to run things efficiently if there are distracting errors on the page.
Maybe in the future there could be voting categories (such as: balance, ease of use, and flavor)!
Sunday DM and creator of homebrew for both DMs and players. I do lots of conversions!
My best brews: Berserker (Fire Emblem - barbarian subclass) | Swordmaster (Fire Emblem - fighter subclass) | Deserter (background) | Flame Atronach (Skyrim - monster)

Maybe, but at that point you would be looking at 9 different polls, which could be a bit much to put together and expect others to vote on.

I will vote in a similar way. Another thing I judge is how consistent the language seems with what already exists in 5e. The terms and language used in 5e isn't always consistent, but if it seems like someone has gone out of their way to try and match how effects work with terms already used by other classes/subclasses/spells, I tend to favor those over homebrew that introduce completely new terminology.
I am also a fan of descriptions which are concise and not to bulky in their explanation
[For example, if the same ability was judged one written as "on a hit, the target must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or be knocked prone" and one written as "when you strike the target, the monster must make a saving throw with its Dexterity or fall to the ground" I would probably rank the former description higher than the latter, despite both abilities effectively saying the same thing.]

I agree with this. Consistent language and grammar are about as important as the actual mechanics when I'm judging something.

There goes my chance of winning! :P
I tend not to grade as much based on grammar and spelling, though I may knock off a point or two in extreme cases. I also grade a bit in constancy with 5e language, but mainly it's just the mechanics and theme, more than either of those.

The D&D Beyond site poll has ended, but as I mentioned previously I will be using my google doc poll for determining the winner of this competition. That poll will remain open until the end of the day on November 17th. I encourage you all to vote if you have not yet done so. The link to the poll can be found either in my previous announcement comment or under the voting section of the main post

I guess this just wasn't your challenge. You'll do better next one I'm sure. And who knows, maybe you'll still do well in the official poll!
I totally advise riding an animated castle.
I will try to include it in my final analysis

Today is the final day for voting with the Google Doc. If you are interested in responding, please do so before the end of the day.
After today, I will try to have the results out ASAP, but it may take me some time to gather and sort all of the data.
