I've been trying to make a feat similar to spell sniper where you can choose a cantrip depending on your casting ability but I'm struggling to find how to do this and was wondering if anyone on this FAQ knew. Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated

If you want the user to choose the spellcasting ability then you cannot. You will need a version of the feat for each spellcasting ability.
You can make a copy of the 2014 version of Magic Initiate to see how to add cantrips for a specific spellcasting ability.

I'm building a subclass for the 2014 wizard where they gain additional spells as shown in section 15 of the Homebrew Subclasses & Races Species FAQ, however I want them to be able to pick one cantrip and two 1st level spells at level 2. Is there a way of doing this with them then picking up a single further spell at when they reach level 5, 9, 13 and 17? I tried using the has options checkbox and in the Class Levels Where Options Known box I have tried "2,2,5,9,13,17" however the levelled dropdown options don't allow you to select a spell.

Just create separate features at each level. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I just set this up as a test and it worked...I created the class feature Additional Spells as a granted feature with options, available at 2,5,9. then created options for each level of options - setting the level option is available to the requisite level for each. For the level 2 option I configured 3 open spells, 1 wizard cantrip and 2 wizard spells from level 1, then created a single level 2-3 wizard spell for the level 5, and finally a level 4-5 for the level 9 option. you could continue the thought for the level 13 and 17 options. is that what you're talking about?

I think so, but I can't seem to work out how you link the spells to the specific level option. Instead I end up with multiple dropdowns with one being offering all of the spells and the others just having "select level X option" how do I split the spells into the separate dropdowns for each level? I'm almost certain I am missing a blatantly obvious solution and that I'm probably looking no further than my nose, or just straight up misunderstanding one of the boxes somewhere.
Edit to add: After going back with fresh eyes and a damn good sleep. I was indeed missing a blatantly obvious thing, I was adding spells and not options not realising that adding an option then allows you to add spells as a subset of said option, and instead was trying to do it all through the main spells option. A lovely case of overtired DM brain.
Ok so i tested it out and it is a max of 31
