I'm trying to set up a new race for a homebrew world, but while detailing and testing the Race, I'm noticing rather than one race you chose which you can pick an option of a subspecies, it just makes 4 different races to pick of that species.
I was hoping to make it for you could pick the parent species then chose one of the subspecies within it, or is that just not possible?
If it isn't no big deal, just not what I initially planned to set them up as.
Unfortunately homebrew sub-races don't group together like official ones do; there are two main workarounds for this:
Name your sub-races with something common at the start. For example, if you were doing types of troll you might name your sub-races as Troll (Cave), Troll (Fire) etc. so they at least sort together alphabetically, but they'll still show as separate entries in the list.
Restructure your sub-races as options. This is my preferred option, as updating published parent races that have sub-races is a pain in the ass (and kind of broken); this also gets around the sorting issue by having a single race entry, with the sub-races appearing as an option within the builder.

I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.

Good Day,
I'm trying to set up a new race for a homebrew world, but while detailing and testing the Race, I'm noticing rather than one race you chose which you can pick an option of a subspecies, it just makes 4 different races to pick of that species.
I was hoping to make it for you could pick the parent species then chose one of the subspecies within it, or is that just not possible?
If it isn't no big deal, just not what I initially planned to set them up as.
Example
[Parent Species] - [4 Subspecies]
Instead it's
[Sub species] [Sub Species] [Sub Species] [Sub Species]
Any idea around this or is this just something I'm going to have to work with for now?

Was afraid that was the case, but had to ask when I looked up down left right and center for the options.
Thanks for the update.
The simplest solution is to name them as “[Race], [Subrace]” so they at least group alphabetically.
