Hello, I'm making some subclasses, and I'm having issues with certain class feature modifiers seemingly not working. Namely, "Expertise in -Choose a Martial Weapon-, -Choose an armor type-, or -Choose a light armor type-"; I assume other similar options also wouldn't work, but I haven't checked for myself yet. I assumed these modifiers would let a player pick anything from the applicable list of items, but when I save and check the subclass in the character builder, the drop-down menu added by the modifier has nothing in it.
Is this possibly affected by the sourcebooks I own? I don't own anything other than the basic ones provided for free, and I assumed those would provide at least some of the relevant options for the modifiers. I made sure to save properly, and refresh the character builder page as needed. Or is it possible I've misunderstood what those modifiers actually do? Is there something I've missed, or some way to make the modifiers work correctly? Or will I have to make feats or something else instead for choosing the expertises? I'm pretty new to subclass making so any help is appreciated.
The Expertise and Twice Proficiency modifiers do not function for weapons or armor. It wouldn’t actually do anything for armor since you don’t add PH to AC in the first place, and it would be waa—aay OP for weapons. Those are the reasons that WotC has never written anything that gives double proficiency to those things, and since WotC has never done it DDB has never programmed it to work.
Oh, that's weird. Guess that's what I get for being new to DnD and not reading up properly, lol. (Weird that the option pretends to be there, not weird that the rules work like that)
That Modifier draws from the same list as the regular Proficiency modifier, that’s why some of those things display even though they aren’t actually useable with that Mod.
