I want to make this feature in my Rogue: Fireslinger subclass (a subclass based on the Arcane Trickster that only gets 1st-4th level spell slots normally):
Signature Spell
At 17th level, you master a powerful spell. Choose a fireslinger spell of any level. You learn that spell and can cast it once per long rest without expending a spell slot.
The spell list in question (just showing the 5th and 6th level options, as that's what you'd normally pick with this feature):
Create Homunculus, Eyebite, Flesh to Stone, Heal, Investiture of Flame, Investiture of Ice, Investiture of Stone, Investiture of Wind, Primordial Ward, True Seeing
What I've got so far:
Spellcasting
Works great! Grants access to the fireslinger spell list, and cantrips and 1st-4th; you can select them as you level up, and it doesn't show any spells you shouldn't have.
Signature Spell
Allows selection of one spell from 5th-6th level, but I can't restrict it to fireslinger spells. The restriction is present in the text description of the feature, but not enforced.
While modifying the feature, there's an option for selecting the Spell Class it grants access to - but the only options are the base caster class lists (Artificer, Bard, Cleric, etc.)
Is there a way to do this? I'm thinking the simplest workaround would be to display the list of 5th and 6th level spells in the description of Signature Spell, so even if the drop-down shows everything, you have an easy cross-reference of the allowed list.
Yes. If you list all of those designated spells in the “Spell” field, it will allow the player to choose 1 of them.
PS- There is no possible way to alter the spell slot progression for a Rogue subclass to be anything other then the Arcane Trickster’s spell slot progression.
Perfect, thanks! The subclass is just about finished and working!
It's a little bit funky as a capstone feature - grants one 5th or 6th level spell at 17th level, while the Arcane Trickster doesn't get their first natural 4th level slot till 19th level, but for the personal character I'm building with it, I just want Investiture of Flame for flavor reasons.
