I want to create a subclass that has access too the cleric spell list at certain levels such as At 14th level, you can choose two additional cleric spells of 5th level and 6th level from the cleric spell list that you can learn through your Spellcasting feature. any ideas?
for context i tried following a guide and post that was from a few months ago and tried doing this but its not giving the options, i tried mak one feature where they can choose from among the cleric kist, and then another feature where the Option are “granted” and have the Options from the first feature are the prerequisites. Then i tried to attach the spells to the Options, in a mix of words of mine and anothers
Just the person I was hoping to respond! Your guide has greatly helped me in the past creating homebrew stuff, I just am not able to have them choose two options of a list of spells from a subclass feature like one option is one spell and one option is a spell at one higher level. I also can't seem to unlock the options for higher class levels when they unlock the spell choices at say wizard level 6
I’m happy to help. I’m not entirely sure exactly what you are trying to accomplish. Perhaps if you copy/paste the full description for me it’d make it easier.
"Beginning at 2nd level, you train to blend swordplay with magic of both arcane and divine nature. When you adopt this tradition at 2nd level, you gain proficiency with one type of one-handed melee weapon of your choice. Add Sacred Flame as a bonus cantrip to the list of your cantrips known.
Choose two cleric spells of 1st level or lower from the cleric spell list. When your Spellcasting feature lets you learn a wizard spell of 1st level or higher, you can choose the new spell from one of those cleric spells.
At 6th level, you can choose two additional cleric spells of 2nd level and 3rd level from the cleric spell list that you can learn through your Spellcasting feature.
At 10th level, you can choose two additional cleric spells of 3rd level and 4th level from the cleric spell list that you can learn through your Spellcasting feature.
At 14th level, you can choose two additional cleric spells of 5th level and 6th level from the cleric spell list that you can learn through your Spellcasting feature."
i was trying to make a one feature that had granted options from anothe person you helped back in april and use that options from that feature as a prerequisite for the blended styles (( the description i posted above and see if could have a level 2 option where player chooses 2 spells from the cleric spell list and ones at the higer level options. if youde like i can link the forum post you helped the other guy on with that guide that i tried following: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/168739-how-do-you-add-spell-list-choices-to-your-homebrew
You really cannot mechanically let them choose two cleric spells to add to the list of wizard spells they could learn, the system isn’t really set up for that. You could let them automatically learn two cleric spells of the various spell levels at the designated wizard levels, but that’s the closest you could get. Or you could add the entire cleric spell list to the list of spells they can learn, that’s your other option.
“Granted” options only work if the player has already chosen Options from some other subclass feature already. It just won’t work the way you’re trying to do it. Luckily, as I said earlier, you really don’t need Options to do that at all. You can skip Options entirely and just do it all from the Spells subform. If you use the Spells subform and follow the instructions I referred you to in my previous post, you can do it from there. Like this:
You would just [ADD A SPELL] twice set up just like that.👆That will grant them 2 known cleric spells of 1st level (don’t enter cantrip there like I did, that was a mistake). Then you would add that two more times, only instead of listing “1” as the spell level you would enter “2” and “3,” and instead of 2nd as the character level you would put 6th. Just rinse and repeat for the other levels. Make sense?
so i did what you suggested and it is putting all options for the spells at level 2, i have the required level at the appropriate levels? do they just they choose them now and theyll get them when they reach required level?
They could choose them all right away at 2nd level, but they won’t actually get them until the appropriate levels. And if they change their minds they could just pick different spells.

You don’t need Options for that. Please see the Homebrew Subclasses & Species FAQ #s 14 & 15: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/131411-a-homebrewers-how-to-faq). 14 will give you the basics, and 15 will show you how to give them a choice. When you look at 15, you’ll want the second choice with “limited parameters method 1.”
