My Rogue/Artificer uses cards to make spell scrolls. I want her to have what is basically a deck box like from Yugioh to keep them in, but when adding a custom item there is no option to make it a container. A friend also has a custom item for his character that is basically a Bowler Hat of Holding (limited size). Can we set homebrewed magic items as containers? Getting around this right now by renaming a pouch, but is there a better way?
As for your workaround I suggest an alms box instead of a pouch, for one thing it’s weightless, and for another it has no weight restriction on contents.
Only thing I'm keeping in the deck box is spell scrolls/cards, which are weightless, and the pouch is only a pound, plus I have a Bag of Holding so I'm not too worried about weight. Appreciate the suggestion, though. Might do that to make my friend's hat so he can keep better track of what all's in it.
I use Lots of custom containers; almost every PC has a "Tactical-belt". Then there is the "Wear" container. gets bad when your PC is a charlatan and has several different wear containers. I also use Component pouches straight as tool belts for Artificers. Be careful with transferring the same stuff to Avrae.. Jarl Archi's bag alias blew up when they upgraded.

Short answer, no.

were you able to create an item that actually holds other items in it just like a backpack? like a separate container
