Context: DM allowed me to combine two spells that I have in my PCs spellbook to make a new spell. Just got to level 7 Wizard, so the new spell cannot be higher than 4th level, and can only be made with two combining spells.
Thought of this, which I call
"Leomund's Mobile Hut"
Mage Armor and Leomund's Tiny Hut
Please tell me if this is weak, mid, good or OP.
thought was to cast it on my wizards Tressym familiar.
DM is ok with it. Just want to know what the community thinks.
LEVEL 4th
CASTING TIME 1 minute
RANGE/AREA Touch (10 ft)
COMPONENTS V, S, M *
DURATION 8 Hours
SCHOOL Abjuration
ATTACK/SAVE None
DAMAGE/EFFECT Buff/Utility
You touch a willing creature who isn't wearing armor, and a 10-foot-radius protective magical force surrounds it whenever it ends it's turn without moving until the spell ends. The base AC of each size medium or smaller creature within the spells radius, who is not wearing armor, becomes 13 + its Dexterity modifier. They also gain resistance to non magical attacks, and gain magic resistance, against attacks and spells cast by creatures that were outside of the spells radius when it was cast. The spell ends if the original target dons armor or if you dismiss the spell as an action.
Until the spell ends you can command the interior of the radius to become dimly lit or dark.
It can very very easily become OP depending on the interpretation & party make up. Do the resistances apply to all creatures within 10 ft of the target? or only those that are not wearing armour? the wording is unclear, if the former then it is brokenly OP.
Similarly, it becomes brokenly OP if the party contains any PCs that routinely don't wear armour in combat - Moon Druids, Barbarians, Monks, Sorcerers, Wizards. Either cast it directly on them, or better yet on your familiar then have the familiar sit stationary in their backpack, and you've given them a huge buff.

It's almost like an aura that affects anyone who isn't wearing armor, and is within 10 feet of the target. All of them would get the AC bonus, the Magic resistance and the resistance to damage.
My wizard would have this on their Familiar like you mentioned.
A downside is that it applies to every creature in the aura. Enemies included
I guess hearing you say this makes me better understand how strong this would be. I didnt even think of the familiar being on someone else. In the context of the party, my wizard is the only one without Armor.
If it is only for you and your familiar then it's still basically doubling your wizard's hit points which is very still very good, but not as busted as giving it to half the party. But the possible interactions is still potentially very powerful - e.g. cast on your familiar, have familar perch on your shoulder to they are never moving and it is active basically all the time, then polymorph yourself into a T-rex. Now you're a T-rex with resistance to non-magical damage + magic resistance.

See, this is why I made this post. Would not have thought of a Tressym riding my polymorphed Trex character.
But yea, I see what you mean.
I guess if the Monk ever comes back, then it would be useful to have my PCs Tressym on his shoulders.
I mean, if you really wanna try combining two spells and upgrading them to be worth a 4th-level slot, I’d seriously consider Leomund’s tiny hut crossed with Tenser’s floating disk, but that’s just me.

That is an amazing idea 💡
Holy cow.
I don't have Tensers though in the spellbook.
I will keep that in my backpocket though.
Any other ideas??
For spell combos? Depends, what’s in the book?
