do i need to make something public in order to share a link? this is outside of a campaign, i just want to get some feedback but it doesn't seem like just copying the link works. I'm hesitant to publish in case i need to make changes.
you can make changes to a published item by creating a new version, editing THAT and when you publish the new version it overrides the old one. Literally just when through that, lol.

Sharing the link only works if you publish, however there is a workaround. Go to the page for the specific homebrew you are hoping for feedback on. Highlight everything, copy it, and then paste it into a forum thread.
ok thanks, so the short answer is yes...to share i need to publish but i can then make adjustments.
maybe dumb question...can i delete things i have published? or even copy things i have published?
If you absolutely must edit something after publishing there is a way, but because of the way the system works it is less than ideal. It’s not the worst thing ever, but if you can nail it down before publishing it is better for a number of small, but annoying reasons. But if you absolutely must, here’s how:
Tap the homebrew in question in either “your collection” or “your creations,” makes no difference. Tap “Create new Version.” Refresh the page if necessary and you should find both versions directly over/under each other. Tap the old one first and hit “remove from my collection,” then tap the new version, make your edits, save, and then tap “share with community.” Moving forward, anyone who finds it will be directed straight to the new version, anyone who already added the old version will unfortunately not be informed of you update, and will retain the old version. There is no known way around that.
If you do end up having to go this rout, you will soon start to realize all the little reasons that will quickly turn out to not be worth the hassle if you can avoid it. For instance, if you attach a published homebrew spell to a homebrew subclass and publish that, if you end up editing that spell, you will also have to go through the same process for that subclass to remove the old version of the spell, add the new version, and then republish the subclass as well. There’s more, but it will take too long to list them all.
that workaround does sound painful...ok i think I'll go the copy paste route
Happy to help!
Technically that’s not a “workaround,” it functions exactly as programmed following the same guidelines for how they archive old UA stuff that WotC decided not to move forward with like the Mystic, or those other Psionic subclasses that just recently got archived.
The only difference is that if WotC decides to scrap something they tell DDB, and the Devs have to handle the nitpicking. If we decide to do it to our own stuff then we have to handle our own scutwork, and without admin powers. That is why DDB cautions users not to publish until we’re absolutely sure that we have it nailed down after all the play testing and editing is done.
I know, everybody is all like “How the heck are we supposed to do that if we cannot share it with each other?” Agreed, I wish there was some sort of “soft release” publication option, but the best we can do is keep requesting that feature and hopefully, eventually, it will filter to the top of the list. In the meantime, share that copy/past “workaround” so fewer new users have the same issues that I have made for myself by re-republishing if the don’t need to for their playtesters to access on DDB.
