Hello DDB homebrew comunity. I hope you are all well. I have a question for whomever might read this. The other day I saw that modifier I mentioned and have been experimenting with it.
I was hoping that I could use it to make a homebrew feat with a custom action and set the limited uses. My hope was to use this modifier on a Magic Item to attach that feat to it as a workaround for not being able to add actions to items. It didn’t work for two reasons.
The Modifier Subtype does not list homebrew feats.
Even when I tried to attach a standard feat (Defensive Duelist) to a Longsword, it seems to not grant the feat to the character. I tried it both with and without Attunement required, no change.
So I suppose that either I did something incorrectly, or this Modifier does not work on Magic Weapon’s. I am intending to experiment with other Items, as well as Class/Race features. Before I spend all of that time on this, I thought I might just ask if anyone here knew the answer or at least part of it.
Did you ever get an answer to this? I'm creating a magic weapon and added Modifier=Feat; subtype=Mage Slayer but that doesn't seem to do anything. After adding it to the character sheet there's no reference of the feat or any of the abilities granted, like when you simply add the feat to the character.
I took a crack at it as well. Does not appear to be hooked up. I guess either manually add the feat or apply what you can to the item itself?
Did not work with generic items, double checked attunement, even tried the suboption "choose a feat". Got nothing other than a couple of silly items out of it.

Yes actually, I did eventually figure it out. That modifier was originally created for the sole purpose of enabling the Variant Human. It only works in a very particular couple of ways:
It works if you attach it to a racial trait, but only with the “Choose a Feat” Subtype.
It also works if attached to an item, but as Nikuna297 pointed out, it only works if the item requires Attunement, and it only works when specific feats are chosen as the Subtype, and only with some very specific feats. For example, it won’t work with feats that offer any choices to the player. It now also appears to not work with some of the feats it used to work with. 🤷♂️ (I have an item I was going to publish just to link it for you, a +1 hand crossbow that also granted the benefits of the Crossbow Expert feat, I had named it “The Automatic Expert.” Something gave me the gut feeling that I ought to recheck it first, and I’m glad I did. Something they changed with one of the recent updates must have made that go hinky because it no longer works. I know for a fact that it used to work, but I haven’t used the character who wields The Automatic Expert recently. So whatever change has affected it must have happened in the past couple of months, otherwise I would have noticed it before.)

Well, am here to report that I went back to test it after gaining this new information. And out of the 28 feats available from the drop down that do not have choices involved, 0 of them appeared to work.

Bummer.

What a shame.
Agreed, it is a shame. (I’m pissed that they killed my crossbow, I really liked that crossbow.)
