I’m trying to crate an item that adds a number of penalties to the user. Most are working but I can’t seem to get it to add disadvantage to dex based attacks.

I thought that adding the modifier type as “disadvantage” and modifier subtype as “dexterity attack” would do the job but nothing appears on the character sheet next to dex based weapons, e.g. longbow, to show that it’s working.

I've used the same method to add modifiers to dex saving throws, aerobatic, slight of hand, stealth and they all show up with the red D in my character sheet.

anyone got any advice?

I don’t believe and advantage or disadvantage tags appear next to any attacks yet.

I've been trying to do the same sort of thing. I want my magic item to impose disadvantage on all stealth checks but I can't seem to get it to work. You say you got it to work for stealth, so please let me know what you did so I can get it right. Please and thanks!

 Modifier: Disadvantage->Subtype: Stealth

After you save the modifier you MUST re-save the entire Homebrew using the main [SAVE CHANGES] button under Basic Information.

If the item requires Attunement, you must attune the item for the disadvantage to show.

Here is a link to my homebrew. I think I did it right, using the drop down options. I used the save as recommended (I learned that the hard way!) but it still isn't showing up on my character sheet. Could it be because it is not a skill I am proficient in?

No, that shouldn’t matter. I don’t work here so I can’t see your homebrew. One of the Mods or Staffers may have to help you. Tell me, did you create this item from scratch or use a template? If you used a template, dis it used to require Attunement? So with at can mess with things. Also, it will help the mods if you provide a link to your test character too.

Did you attune it?

Yes. And . . . it showed up finally. Red D next to Stealth. It took a couple of hours to update, which is odd because everything else was instant.

Oh well.
