So long story short, I'm asking for advice. I'm trying to build a feat that adds spells to your spell list accessible to your class. The problem I keep having is that it either makes the spell castable at will or I can set limited uses. Is there a way I can make it to where you can select the spells when you're choosing your spells? Or can that only be done with subclass edits?
I am also trying to use Artificer Initiate. The feat (in DDB) doesn't allow the bonus spell to add to the list, so I have been trying to create a 'fix' version, even if the spell needs to be hard coded. As is, even with manually using it, I can't cast it at a higher level (ie Cure Wounds cast with a level two slot should be legal for a sixth level wizard, but does not work with the DDB feat). Has anyone found a workaround (other than... forcing the feat into a subclass/subrace/race)?
No problem. The simplest would probably be either the race or background

I know this is necro, but I want to add some new insight I've found here in 2026.
Once you add those "Limiting Restrictions" (Spell Lvl/Spell List/Spell School/Divisor) to the spells tab of a feat, you can't add more than 2 of those restrictions.
I've been working with the "is Infinite" checkbox trying to create a system to simulate a non-warlock gaining access to pact magic exactly as a warlock would. I started with the Spell List to isolate the choices to be just Warlock, and the Divisor to progressively show the next available choices as they level up. I noticed cantrips kept being available to the list as choices and wanted to remove them, thus I added to the Level restriction 1-9. That never worked, always showing cantrips regardless. I created a test character at level 5 so they'd be able to see 3rd Level and lower spells, as intended, hoping cantrips weren't included. Once I removed the divisor restriction, it seemed to show me 1st-9th spells at level 5, and no cantrips. That shows me that I may be restricting the process too much and causing overload somewhere.
I'm still testing to see if it's possible to restrict choices to follow a class's spell list, using the divisor, with the exclusion of cantrips, but I am running into a wall now.

It could be done by editing either the race, background, or subclass, but not feats at the current time.

anyone know if this has changed? just trying to manage with the tasha updates for my players without making multiple race changes.
Edit* to clarify i have the physical books, not ddb source books.
