There's no need to house-rule this, as Dispel Magic can only end spells; weapon enchantments are not spells.
Your DM might allow dispel magic to work in cases where specific spells are not involved, or might choose a level for the effect, but that's up to them.
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.

Yeah, depending on the game...if I worked hard to obtain super awesome magic item...then some npc dispelled magic on it rendering it non-magical...I'd honestly probably leave.
That's just broken and lame imho.

I am the DM and it is a house rule. Cast the spell on a +1 weapon and POOF! No more magic weapon.
so this would just make the magic item disappear? i mean making Instant Fortress disappear would be strange
besides dispel magic's purpose is to dispel magic, not magic items.
Magic fortress would revert to a cube and and become nonmagical.
That sounds like an instant recipe for pissed off players.
