If a Gnome, Goblin, or Vulpera in WoW can wield a great axe or Longbow, my campaigns of D&D say they can too.

So the question is, if the Goblin gave his Great Axe to a human, would it just be a battle axe to the human?

Yes, that’s why the Goblin can use a Battleaxe but not a Greataxe.
