Bow can't speak to plants either 

(Randall can cast Tongues again, but that only works if the creatures have a language).

(I guess the question is: do plants speak some language? 

If not, could we try doing some sign-language type things? Approach unthreateningly and put down arms? If so, what would we need to roll for?)

(we could use minor or major illusion to paint pictures in the air. Although presumably they use some sort of blindsense or tremorsense so might not be receptive to this)

The natives used music

"I could uh... I could try to communicate to them with a song?"

"Were they really communicating? I thought they were just luring them into the pit. More like snake charmers rather than communicating"

(but by all means, I'd love a plant-communicating song if we think that might work. Please RP in great detail, lyrics tune and all)

Petcan pulls out his flute from his pack and begins to play one of his familiar songs, a quiet, happy little tune 

Performance 18 

Zenodor takes a deep breath, mutter to himself "I can't believe we're even trying this", and then slowly steps forward into the clearing.

He keeps a respectful distance from the plant and stops. He then lays down his weapons (daggers, + did Z get the sword of alertness?) slowly onto the ground and tries to be as calming as possible.

Using his telephaty, he communicates "We come in peace. We do not wish to harm you" to the plant (just trying in case it works)

Bow was standing at the back doubting that the things they were trying were gonna help against these kind of awakened plants, an yet the sudden spray of purple mist caught him by surprise a bit.

(Interesting imagery. The 'vast cavern' makes me think Hive Mind. Also, if we slew the "Children ... where are the adults?)

Petcan casts hypnotic pattern across the purple wraiths, hoping they have eyes to see it's dazzling work. DC 15 Wisdom save

Zenodor is blinded, and decides to try to get out reach. Using the dash action, he moves 60ft straight upwards to vertically get out of reach, and out of the purple mist.

(Did the Purplewrath close to melee distance? I am assuming not. If it did, it would be disengage instead of dash - and correspondingly shorter distance)

Randall:

With the blinded Zenodor well out of range, Randall casts Bless on himself and those who wish it, then moves away from the active Purplewraith in case it has gotten too close.

Tempe summons his wildfire spirit Pinky high enough not to effect the group Pinky flies infront of Zenodor and teleports him back 15ft towards the group leaving a fiery burst of flame behind the spirit if the PW is close enough (5ft) must succeed on a DEX saving throw (DC:15) or take7 fire damage.
