Carefully taking the bolt back off his crossbow and letting down the bow, Gethin looks at the sage and thinks maybe some of his procedures are familiar. Maybe this would be a good acquaintance to have if Gethin wants to develop his own skills further
"So, Matreus Sir. Well we only came here to deliver some things and perhaps return some books that you have borrowed. I admit I am most curious about this mansion you have discovered but clearly it is not the safest of places for those of us who do not know what exactly its creator did. I am curious but not so much so that I would explore the home of an unknown mage purely for the sake of curiosity."
Now that she can´t get stuck in there Zuri definitely wants to explore the mansion at least a little.
"I´ll go after Mydri, we´ll look around a bit and come back. We should get going soon anyway." With that said she walks toward the door before stopping right in front of them.
"Is there anything dangerous in there we should watch out for? Traps or monsters like the imp?" She asks Matreus.
Matreus thinks for a moment. Well, It is hard to tell. You see, Fistandia was not and evil or power hungry sort of magician, she tried to help others with her powers. She was however a bit reckless in her research sometimes. Like with that imp for example. I have found it in the manor thinking it is just a statue. She probably did not realize someone might take it outside and get hurt. So to answer your question, I do not think there would be intentional traps or other threats. However there might be some failed experiments or other unintentional dangers. It is wise of you to be more careful than I was the first time.
I am already in your debt so do not feel obliged to search the manor if you do not want to. You should however at least tell your friend inside.
As for the books I have borrowed, I will tell Mr. Cogs to prepare them for you. He orders his mechanical servant to do so and also to store the supplies you've brought. Please thank Hanna in my stead for lending them to me and for the supplies.
Zuri does not feel obligated, she's just curious, and someone needs to tell Mydri we're almost ready to go back to the tavern.
"Ok, I'll tell her to be careful and to rather not bring anything back here. We'll look around a little and come back here as soon as possible." And with that she walks through the door folowing the way she saw Mydri go after talking to the scholar.
"If some of us want to go and explore then perhaps we should all go. I am concerned that we should understand our position here if we do, will we be held to account if damage cannot be avoided, will we be permitted to keep any part of what we find?"
Frank says, "There's absolutely no point in going if we are not sure we can keep some of the stuff we can find. On the other hand if we head back to town now then we all get paid 100%."
Fistandia has been dead for some time now and as far as I know, she had no children or other heirs that could show up and claim her property. Neither do I claim anything in the mansion as belonging to me. That being said, if you plan to take out any books or scrolls or other similar knowledge from there, I would be glad if you at least allowed me to make a copy of such item.
"Can't say fairer than that sir. If we take the risk we get the reward but you get to share the knowledge. Well in that case Frank, Zuri, what do you think, a bit more risky than delivering food and books but maybe we come out of it with a bit more to our names?"
Gethin checks his crossbow is unloaded for the moment and slings it over his shoulder
"Right the, if you will hold the door open a while Sir we will go and investigate. I will give you a full account of what we find and you shall of course have full access to any books"
He looks at Zuri and Frank as he walks towards the door hanging in mid-air
Wonderful! As I have already told your friend inside, the keyword used to open the portal from inside is different then the one used from the tower. If you manage to find the keyword or at least some hints about it, I might brew you some of my special brews as a reward.
Matreus then thinks for a while and finally proceeds to search the drawers of his table. He pulls out lots of papers and strange arcane and alchemical apparatus until he finally finds what he was looking for - a small box with a few buttons. Scepter, says he as he pushes one of the buttons. This should work for now, but it will eventually need to be recharged. That is however nothing you should worry about. Then he presses another button and his voice can be heard form the box repeating the word Scepter and thus keeping the portal opened.
As you touch the portal, you feel a soft tingling in your body, nothing that you would consider too unpleasant. In a blink of an eye, are no longer in the library, but instead in a foyer of the mansion. The room is roughly 10x10 feet large, the ceiling arches to fifteen feet overhead, and long hallways stretch out on either side of the foyer. The floor is made of wood and the walls are made of stone blocks. There are oil lamps illuminating the room. Almost opposite the entrance, slightly to the left, you can see an opened wooden door. As you enter the foyer, you can see a cat leaving the room and running towards the right hallway and disappearing in one of the rooms there.
Soon after Mydri leaves the same room and without noticing you, she walks towards the next door in the left hallway.
Zuri will follow Gethin and go through the portal as well. If she also sees the cat she will follow it to the room in the right halway it ran of to. "Ooh a kitty!"
Frank steps through as well and immediately spins around to see if there is still a way back out. Otherwise he will follow others for now, keeping his eyes open.
Gethin looks around, the door is still there somewhat to his relief even after they all come through
"Well its not all gone wrong yet."
As the cat scoots through the hallway he thinks
"Where there is a cat there is food, this place is not completely abandoned. It might be a good idea to stay fairly close, at least where we can hear each other. Just in case there is something larger than a cat in here."
This room contains a battered wooden mannequin and a weapon rack holding staffs and daggers all lit by indigo-tinted light streaming from a window. The floor is stained and scorched. At the far end of the room, a broom hovers in the air, sweeping the floor by itself. One of the walls holds a series of pictures, each picture containing several humanoid figures.
Zuri (And those who follow the cat):
As you follow the cat, you see it disappears in the first door in the right hallway. as you move towards the door, to your left is a an staircase leading upstairs. When you enter the room the cat was going to, you realize it is a kitchen. The aromas of cooking permeate the room. A large iron stove takes up one wall and the rest of the room is filled with large tables and racks lined with hanging pots, pans ans cooking utensils. Everything is sparkling clean.
With the flapping of their wings two small mechanical creatures similar to the one in the tower land on the nearest table, bow low and in a squeaky voices greet you: How can we be of help to our honored guest(s)? Cooking? Cleaning? Mending your clothes, perhaps?
Also, if you start feeling lost and would prefer a map, just ask and I'll to post some.
Mydri walks into the room, looking around. The weapons don't interest her much, and neither does the broom. She had seen stranger things back... then. The pictures, however, catch her attention. She comes close and observes them. They remind her of her own paintings. Had the person who drew these pictures feared the same as she did when she drew hers? She moves a stray strand of silvery hair away and tucks it behind her ear. She turns to the broom, and in a matter that she didn't find strange at all, she asks it: "Who drew these pictures? Who are the people in them?"
Even though she knows they´re probably just harmless servants Zuri is still wary of them. "Umm.. no, thank you. I don´t need anything right know."
She will walk around the kitchen for a bit, looking at what the mechanical creatures were cooking (or where the aroma is coming from) and searching for a small treat for the cat.

Gethin nods in response to Matreus

Frank says, "In that case I'm in."
(intelligence check: 18 - yup, nope, that's that, he has no further ideas about anything.)
"Sounds good to me." Says Zuri with a big smile. "Let´s go meet up with Mydri."

"Well her goes nothing"
