Something like this has been done with in-person games and I think it could be even more useful for PbP but I don't think anyone should be forced to use it if they don't feel it's right for them.

 As I understand what you're suggesting, each adventure should be worth 1 level. If you're planning on 4 month adventures this could work. Attrition shouldn't be too bad, especially if everyone knows about how long it'll take to complete, they'll be more likely to hang in till the end. As far as DMs working out results at the end of each adventure, this could work if the group winds up about 5 or 6 DMs. I'm hoping for something a lot bigger, where having everything agreed upon in advance and procedures for updating those agreements in place would keep things running. I just see checkmarks as giving us more flexibility. An adventure could run in as little as two weeks and represent two days in the game (hmmm...."A Night in the Tavern" an onboarding adventure for first level characters . . . hang on while I jot down some notes). I just see it as one more way to give DMs flexibility in the adventures they create.

If we're going to automate as much as possible  we should start with official races, classes, subclasses and backgrounds that the players have purchased from D&DBeyond. Once up and running we should look into homebrew, maybe starting with one homebrew race and add on from there.

Ability Scores
It's easy enough to have all 3, die rolls, point buy and standard array. The big question is, do we want the standard average 12 points per Ability score (4d6 drop the lowest) or 14 point average (4d6 reroll 1s once dropping the lowest). The 14 point average will increase player enjoyment and investment in the game as well as DM headaches and workload. Pick your poison.

Level 1 ASI
An ASI at 1st level, including the option for a Feat or at least an option from a curated list of 1st level Feats would allow players to further define who their characters are. Any Feat that starts out implying "You are a born . . ." or "You are decended from . . ." should probably be on that curated list of 1st level Feats while ones that include "Master" in the title, or implys "after long years . . ." Probably shouldn't.

With die rolls included in the forum posts (and in any character creation template we put together) that's not an issue. One problem with the Beginning Wealth is that some characters can start with big advantages that compound down the line. We could offer a 3rd option, just a straight 100gp (and stop picking on the Monks).

Character Advancement Proposals

2 weeks of PbP and DM discretion = 1 advancement check I started out thinking 1 post a day, then a total of 15 post for the 2 weeks, then I decided that if the DM has decided that they particpated, then who am I to argue?
                                    
1st level to 2nd level = 2 checks
2nd level to 5th level = 4 checks per level
5th level to 20th level = 8 checks per level
20th level to 26 level = 10 checks per level

At this pace a character a character could reach 20th level in approximately 5.2 years real time.

Player Characters can continue to level up to 26 through multiclassing.

If we decide to go to 26th level through multiclassing, it would take 6.67 years real time to reach 26th level.

Characters keep coin, treasure and magic items they aquire in adventures. The DM should stock the adventure with 75gp/level/character/checkmark +/-50% and half that in gems and treasure ran some numbers and 75 looked better than 50 . A 1 month adventure for 4 beginning characters would include between 300gp and 900gp and 150gp to 450gp in gems and treasure (75gp×1×4×2 average 150gp and 75gp in gems and treasure fore each adventurer) and 2 checkmarks, which would take them to 2nd level.

Down time, real time that your character isn't in an adventure, plus 10 days per checkmark. yeah, why not both?

Don't have a checkmark solution for magic items yet. Overall I like the magic item distribution charts on p135 XGE. I think it's a good place to start.

Always. My thoughts on it are to let however many DMs join up and accommodate. If we wind up with 5 or 6 DMs we can use a private discussion thread to keep everything organized. If it's (as I'm hoping) dozens or more, there are free collaboration tools out there that would allow us to support even hundreds of DMs.

I screwed up my first attempt at the polls. Working on deleting those (if anyone knows how, please let me know). In too much of a hurry, too late at night.

Hi, awesome idea going on here. I'll try to help you guys sort stuff out, but I won't be able to join in on the fun later.

Every DM has their own playing style and rules. I think each DM should have a "Profile" page somewhere that everyone could view. This should include an example of their posting style, time zone,  usual campaign type (Gothic horror, exploration, social...),  house rules, etc. This would inform players what they would be getting into when they sign up to play under a DM.

Simple Example

Style: Intrigue/mystery

Special rules: Remember to have fun!

For the Academy and Tavern, will there just be some sort of big job board? Will there be a DM who will take care of social interactions and such within the tavern and School? Does the school send out students just to gain experience, or are they to acquire certain materials or something? 

It isn't very logical that the school should be training high level characters. I think that characters should only be in the school while they are Tier 1. The tavern could be a place where graduates gather and do similar stuff they did at the school because they feel nostalgic or something. 

Will the adventures somehow tie in with each other so that towards the end, all adventures will be working on the same plot?

 I'm still trying to sort out the polls, but in the meantime, people seem to be using them so we'll see what information we can get out of them.

One thing I've been trying to come up with is a name for this group. Came up with an idea and wanted to run it past everyone.

Worlds of Pphost

We seem to be moving towards a conglomeration of different worlds (well, maybe 5 so far) and then some variation on the spelling of "post", could also be Nexuses of Pphost. Thoughts?

Pphost works.

I think my biggest mistake was that I was looking for people to help me put this together while people were looking for something already put together and ready to join. You have contributed a lot of really great ideas though, so it was totally worth it. Lately I've been cobbling everything together. The files in the directory below make up the backbone of the Worlds of Pphost. If you'd like to read over any of the material and comment on it, feel free. I figure they'll be finished tomorrow or Tuesday. It'll need at least one world set up. I should have Haven ready by Thursday or Friday when I will get everything posted and ready for DMs to join and start exploring and putting together ideas for Adventures, their own parts of Haven or their own Worlds. By next Sunday everything should be ready for players. If anyone advanced knowledge of Google drive I need to set up the system for players to submit downtime requests and PC profiles. The numbers by some of the file names indicates how close I am to finishing (0 means blank file, 99 means just have to look it over one more time, no number means it's finished).
