Lera’s light went out when the dragon appeared. She wiped away her tears, knowing her father needed her to be strong. “Oh my goodness, you are beautiful,” Lera bowed deeply. “My name is Lera and I am at your service.”
The dragon responds with a rumbling language, and the kobolds stop advancing toward you. They are about 90 feet away from you. Even more kobolds file around the flying machine, focusing on the contraption.
Hearing the rumbling of the Dragon's tongue but not recognizing it, Shanolia's eyes briefly light up in a quick flash and she stands tall, seemingly unaffected by the various pains and aches within her body. She cocks her head slightly and begins to speak in the sharp-yet-soothing tone of her knife-like Abyssal voice.
"What is your name, My Child?"
The Dragon doesn't pay her any mind, presumably unable to understand or uninterested in the Elf's inquiry.
"The relevant equation is: Knowledge = power = energy = matter = mass; a good bookshop is just a genteel Black Hole that knows how to read." - Terry Pratchett
Dapple and Perrin share a slight nod as Perrin put his hands on Dapple's back using his Lay on Hands to give him 10 HP. He then takes out his shield taking a defensive position in front of Polly and saying quickly in his mind Frank. I may need you for this buddy.
Woe will try all her languages. "Dear majestic dragon, my name is Woe, which language would be suitable to communicate? Gnomish, Halfling, Common, Elfish, Dwarfish?"
Woe will repeat this sentence in all these languages.
When you say it in common, the dragons eyes land on you for a moment, it bears its teeth and says something more in its rumbling language. The kobolds facing you, all pull out what looks like brand new bows. They look like they are waiting for a command.
Woe bows deeply and steps back, closer to the cliff and to Dapple. Then she hums in his ear: "your agility is your pride, best use your claws, don't hide, go, and help Zamar, he is really not that far!"
Koll knows very little about dragons, but their extreme avarice is common knowledge. He surreptitiously digs out the very valuable diamond he had grabbed from the modron's treasure pile. He moves to Lera and hands it to her. "For your negotiations," he whispers. Then he moves, so as to be near the cliff's edge, ready to descend. He looks over wondering if he could climb it. He remembers that he still has Woe's rope and grappling hook.
Dapple feels the surge of healing from Perrin bring fresh vigor to his limbs. He backs towards the edge if the ravine, pausing as Woe hums her magic as well. With a deep breath, he slips over the edge and makes his way down as quickly as he can. Early on there is a moment when he nearly loses his grip, but bouyed by Woe's words he holds on and is able to carry on safely, finally reaching the bottom. He races for Zamar hoping he is in time.
The moment Dapple set foot on the ground, the woman attending to Zamar rushed over to him. "Why are you alone? Your friends need to get out of there!" She turned away quickly. "No matter, we need to leave now." She moved back to the sled and tightened the straps holding Zamar secure, while the man prepared to start pulling the sled away.
Above, from on top of the wrecked flying machine, the dragon considered the group at the edge of the cliff. It spoke once again, in its rumbling deep voice, then slowly stepped backward off the flying machine. The kobolds facing the group released their prepared arrows, scattering arrows into the snow before the group.
"Trying to run now, will just get them all killed more quickly," Dapple responds. I'm here to keep him from dying. Before the man can begin to drag Zamar away, the tabaxi moves to the side of the sled and concentrates briefly, calling forth the power he's felt growing inside him. He lays his paws across Zamar's forehead and wills the man to heal. It wasn't much - but he could feel a trickle of something flow into the dying bard. By the Cat Lord, he thinks, you can do better than that Dappled Current!
Perrin looks at the others, then at Polly, and then finally at the dragon. He then says to the others “I don’t know what it’s saying but it hasn’t killed us yet. Let’s go. Koll take Polly. Shanolia gets us a rope down. Let’s go before it gets annoyed and kill us all.” As he says this he’ll toss his rope at Shanolia and keep his defensive position in front of Polly not going down until everyone else starts their descent.
Zamar blinks his eyes slowly. First he sees his two rescuers. He croaks out, "Thank you, whoever you are." Then he notices Dapple. "I can't be dead," he says with difficulty. "I'm in far too much pain." He tries to look around, but is strapped quite tightly. "Where is Lera? Where is Polly? What happened?!?" He almost passes out from the exertion of inquiring after his family and friends. He closes his eyes again and tries to breath. It is not a pleasant experience.
Koll is unsure about Perrin's directive. He senses that the dragon wants to kill them, and is perhaps just toying with them as a cat would with a mouse. If they all simply start to retreat, there is nothing to stop the dragon from picking them off at its whim. He hopes that Lera can somehow appeal to the dragon's greed and its vanity - another well known dragon trait. Nevertheless, he draws out the rope and grappling hook that Woe had given him, and holds it out for Shanolia to use, all the while keeping his attention focused on the terrifying white dragon.
Shanolia catches the length of rope from Perrin with ease. When she notes how short it is compared to the cliff, she pulls her rope from her pack and ties the two lengths together, reaching for her piton before noticing Koll’s outstretched hand holding a grappling hook. She takes it and secures it to the rope, wedges it into the snow about 5ft from the cliff’s edge, and makes sure it’s secure enough for them to climb down. Warily, she sets her legs over the edge of the cliff and begins using the rope to safely descend. She almost makes it all the way down before her sore shoulder acts up, forcing her to stop for a brief moment to rest, but otherwise, she descends the rope unimpeded.
Woe watches Shanolia safely descend down the cliff side. Then she turns towards the dragon again. She thinks back at every action the dragon took, at every movement and every reaction the dragon showed, specifically when spoken to. She is quite sure the dragon understands at least some common. And it's behaviour towards the flying machine, it's almost animalistic, as if it's claiming its kill. The Kobolds are almost guarding the flying machine for the dragon.
With that Woe will show both her hands lifted in a gesture of defeat, making sure all her weapons are hidden. Then she will address the dragon again (in common): "It is yours. Keep it. We will leave your land on foot. Thank you for showing us mercy." Then she will bow again, gesture to the member of the Scarlet Dawn to climb down and away from the dragon quickly and get ready herself to climb down the rope after all her friends.

Eager to get to her father, Lera went to the rope and began to climb down. The aasimar climbed until she was just above, and uncomfortably close to, Shanolia.
Seeing first Shanolia, then Lera begin their descent, Singe followed suit and started climbing down the rope. Bumping into Lera, he looked down, only to see that they weren't at the bottom yet. Noticing how close they were, and that the area was clear, he mumbled a few words under his breath, and disappeared, reappearing on the ground below.
The kobolds surrounding the flying machine began to push and shove, slowly moving the wrecked contraption away, under the watchful eye of the dragon. At Woe's words, the dragon snarled and snapped its jaws, but made no reply to her. The kobolds facing the group watched as people began to disappear over the edge of the cliff, weapons at the ready for a second attack, but made no move to loose their arrows.
The woman turned to Dapple. "It won't matter if that dragon eats them." She turned away, and the man began to drag the sled, the woman pushing from behind. They began to drag Zamar toward a crevasse in the far side of the cliff. Upon hearing Zamar speak, she looked down at him. "We're not out of this yet. Just stay calm, friend, and we'll get you out of here."
With Lera’s butt directly in her face, Shanolia shrugs the pain in her shoulder off and descends the rest of the rope, turning and sprinting towards Zamar, Dapple, and the two helpful strangers, jogging alongside them as they move.
Lera ran the rest of the way to her father’s side, practically tackling him in the tightest squeeze. “Dad, you’re ok, I was so scared,” she sobbed into his chest.
Zamar groans in pain and winces. "Hello, child. Glad you are safe," he hoarsely whispers. Then he closes his eyes again and tries to pretend the pain does not exist. He is not successful.
Seeing the others descending via a rope, Dapple hurries after the sled. As Lera rushes up, her steps out of her way. "I'm sorry Lera, I guess I'm not very good at this yet, but I was able to heal him a little bit. Here, let me try again." He tries once more to use his newly-found power to heal, concentrating over Zamar once again. It seems practice is helping and this time the healing is much more effective. (Cure Wounds for 7 hp). "I think I'm getting it!"
Lera’s light went out when the dragon appeared. She wiped away her tears, knowing her father needed her to be strong. “Oh my goodness, you are beautiful,” Lera bowed deeply. “My name is Lera and I am at your service.”
