"That's what was said," Mumbei replied, nodding. "But, those boys of his are lazy. I doubt they looked very hard. More important things to do at the docks." She scoffed, still pointing toward the stairs.
Singe gestures with his staff and puts a hand on Polly. Flames streak up Polly's arms and wrap around her torso. For a moment, she appears to be on fire. The flames die down and Polly's clothes have fiery arcane symbols and intricate designs emblazoned on it. Around Singe there is a soft blue aura. He smiles, the weight of the staff is very nice.
Singe casts mage armor on Polly, his arcane ward activates.

As the group ascends the stairs, they can indeed hear soft scrabbling sounds. Polly opens the water tank and Mr. Drippy wraps himself around her small frame, protectively. Expecting the door to squeak when opened, Perrin opens it slowly. Instead, it opens smoothly and silently. It seems that someone has taken great care to maintain the house, even up to the attic. Stepping into the attic, the group now finds themselves face to face with five men, one of who is bent over, working on something. Staring at the newcomers, four of the men begin to withdraw weapons. Polly was the first to break the silence. "Those aren't rats!"

Lera's hands lit up as she readied a burning hands spell. The sorceress tried her best to look menacing, deciding against immediate violence. But the minute one of them looked like they were ready to strike...
Zamar says, "Not so fast, Polly. They may just be a different kind of rat." He readies his crossbow and prepares to fire if any of these guys make an aggressive move.
(Zamar holds his attack. He will fire if any of the party are attacked.)
Perrin takes out his shield and sword and will stand in front of Polly readying to swing at the first enemy who makes an aggressive move towards Polly.
"You guys don't look like rats. Who are you?" Perrin says hoping they'd answer without resorting to violence.
The men slowly look at one another, then notice their friend, who was previously hard at work, was now standing smiling at Singe. "Get back to work, you moron," one of the men said, shoving him. The smiling man stepped forward a moment. "Is that okay? I'd really like to get this working." The others looked at each other, confused. "What are you doing? Get back to work!"
Singe smiles broadly, looking to the angry men, "What's the rush?" He turns to the man he charmed, "We just want to know what you're all doing up here."

It takes about fifteen minutes of walking before Shanolia reaches the Temple of Savras. Once inside, she seeks out the magic and arcane books, being given guidance by a kind woman when she sees the lost Elf. Once she is in the appropriate section, Shanolia begins picking books off the shelves and flipping through them, looking for spells that seem useful as well as the few spells she remembers her mother mentioning or even beginning to teach her.
After some searching, Shanolia carries three nice-sized books on different types of Spellcasting - one of which caught her eye due to the spell labelled 'Mage Hand' - over to one of the candle-lit tables, setting two of the books aside and reading through Mage Hand's section of the third, her memories of her various studies beginning to resurface. It would take some time, but perhaps she could still yet make her mother proud...
The charmed man continued smiling back. "Well, we wanna get to the treasure inside the portal! Supposed to be a wizards stash!" Another of the men shoved him backwards, roughly. "Shut up, you idiot!" Turning to the newcomers, he pointed his short sword at Singe. "This here is our find. Go find your own treasure."
Singe keeps smiling, this is when the negotiation gets tough, "Let me strike a deal with you. You're invading an old woman's home, she's terrified of the 'rats'. Also, a wizard never leaves their treasure unguarded; we're adventurers, we can take care of any guardian. If you leave, we'll get the treasure and deliver it to you; we won't charge a cent. If you don't leave this house, we will dispatch of you in another form."Singe turns to his new friend, "And I don't want to do that."

The men with weapons looked at each other again, then finally at the one who seemed to be the leader. "Fine." He slowly put his weapon away, followed by the others. They began to slowly ease their way out of the room and down the stairs. From below you hear the old woman yelling, "Oi! Who are you lot? You aren't those children from before!" Standing before you is the smiling man. "If you want in, I can open the portal for you. I think I finally got it all figured out!"

The man grins sheepishly. "Well the doohickey goes into the thingamabob, but not before you touch the white thingy to the red thingy. Don't touch the whatcha-call-it, though. You might blow everyone up. Got it?" He starts walking to the door, the old woman still screaming downstairs. Polly looks up at Perrin, confusion written on her face. "Is this really what adventurers do?"

As the portal pops to life, it sits there, blue and slightly shimmering. Once in a while, the view of a writing desk comes into focus on the other side. "Wow! Look at that!" Polly rushed forward. "It's so pretty!" Without waiting, she jumped right in.
"That's what was said," Mumbei replied, nodding. "But, those boys of his are lazy. I doubt they looked very hard. More important things to do at the docks." She scoffed, still pointing toward the stairs.
A dwarf with a canoe on his back? What could go wrong?
Zamar falls in behind Polly and motions for Lera to do the same. The all follow Perrin slowly up the stairs to the locked door.

"Yes. Polly. We try to solve most of our problems without using violence. We really don't like to fight unless I have to." Perrin says instructionaly.
After a few minutes of studying the contraption, and figuring out what all the parts are, Singe follows the instructions and the portal pops to life.
