"While I would be following you with certainty into the realm thou callest Hell if need be, is it wise to be leaving the others that share our noble quest to protect the field?" Nevaeh asks, leaning on her staff as she looks at between Kairynna and the direction the rest of the group went in.
Varis continues to run down the road back toward the fields, trying to warn the group of the impending attack. He can quickly outpace the others, but doesn’t. He looks over his shoulder to keep Braci and Uraim close in case they have to make a stand against the gnolls before they return to the fields.
Rocky feels as if these two miles they are running were two hundred. He figured the other two companions he was with were faster, but he had to just beat the pace the gnolls were setting. Hopefully the three of them get back to the field a few minutes before the gnolls do, and everyone gets a minute to prepare for the battle ahead.
Thinking to himself, " Aye, we may be the first to face these beast head on tonight, question is how many do we send to the afterlife before we ourselves are sent on our way. "
The scouting party reaches the field (where Thoradin is) just as to the East, West, and North there is a howl that then turns into a hyena cackle (the ones to the East are the loudest, seemingly calling the other ones). Almost instantly they all (still cackling) charge out of the brush and forest on their respective side. On the North side (with Varis, Thoradin, Braci, and Rocky) there are the gnolls and hyenas seen in the clearing, to the East and West there are some number of gnolls and hyenas (it is hard to count the number at a glance). They are charging straight towards you all. You have 5 rounds before they reach you.
((spirit guardians - all enemies who approach to within 15 feet of Thoradin from any direction take 14 radiant damage or half on Wisdom save vs DC 16. Regarldess their speed is cut in half))
Thoradin looked at the approaching enemies. "Och... this is what my father would call, 'a target-rich environment'." Since they were rushing toward them, he assumed at least some of them would come up close. Close enough... He raised his staff and invoked his god, and spirits of pure radiant energy appeared around him, flying about but never going too far from him, and carefully avoiding touching his allies.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Rocky still tries to find some form of hiding spot behind any of the party members that stand to hold a line against the approaching enemies. He wants to try and hide from the view of the armored gnoll he had seen in the clearing, hoping he can get an assassination shot at him.
Perception : 18 to find a suitable spot.
Stealth: 20 to hide from the armored gnoll.
OK at this point the plan Rocky had is looking like it's not going to happen, so he gets ready 30 ft behind Thoradin with his shortbow, ready to start shooting as soon as the gnoll with the armor and glaive are within 70ft.

(OOC: Does Seigfried still have the 10 temporary HP? Someone cast it on him earlier but I'm not clear how much time has past)
Sigi places his hand on his pin of Sothel and raises his voice, calling out for his God's protection. In answer, a parade of figures appear in the air, circling within 15 feet. Painters, masons, dancers, smiths... the shapes are made of radiant energy and lock arms in a protective circle around the dwarf.
Not finished, he cries out again, this time asking for Sothel to grant more power and smite those who would do evil and ruin the labors of these farm folk. A gleaming smith's hammer appears in the air 50 feet in front of Sigi, in the direction of the gnolls.
Sigi turns to Unuuk and Mori. "Mori. Try to hang back if you can. If you can support us, great. If not, try to keep the gnolls from reaching the field or staring any fires. If you get in trouble, shout and I'll come running." To the gnoll, "Unuuk," he starts, then pauses. Have to keep this simple. "You fight. Keep up with me!"
With that, Sigi will wave for the gnoll to follow and will run toward his spiritual weapon and the gnolls approaching from the West.
(OOC: Sigi's rounds before the gnolls arrive will be spent thusly...
Round 1: Sigi will cast spirit guardians. Radiant damage 11 or half on a successful WIS 16 save. Save or not, their speed is halved. Sigi will exclude all his allies he can see (including, he carefully remembers, Unuuk). Requires concentration.
Round 2: Sigi will cast spiritual weapon making the weapon appear approx. 50 feet in front of him in the direction of the approaching gnolls. Doesn't require concentration.
Round 3: Quick chat with Unuuk and Mori
Round 4: Running toward the gnolls
Round 5: NA... running toward the gnolls should negate this prep round.)

Kairynna casts guidance on herself as the gnolls approach. Stepping towards them, she summons her oath to help her and uses her amulet to use Emissary of Peace (+5 to persuasion for a minute). She calls out to the gnolls, "Halt! I am sure we can come to a peaceful arraignment where no one needs be hurt! I have been given the ability to treat with you to come to a peaceful and rewarding compromise to our current situation." (Or something like that using her skills of persuasion that I am lacking in.)
((temp HP from my Inspiring Leader do not expire. Add'l HP from my Extended Aid spell last 16 hours. Thoradin will use the Help action to give Kairynna advantage on her Persuasion check))
Thoradin added his voice to Kairynna's, addressing the gnolls, trying to pitch it in just such a way as to project his confidence in his allies, his god and himself. "Put away your weapons."
Rocky hears the calls from Kairynna and Thoradin and against his better judgement picks his bow and arrows up, but pulls his shortsword and a dagger out. Looking around at the incoming horde of gnolls, he calls out to Thoradin: " I hope ya two understand, if da beasties find ya more a tasty treat than a threat, we'll be in deep manure if they gang up on us. "
Rocky then takes a deep breath and waits. Weapons in hand, griping the shortsword in his right hand tightly, with the dagger in his left hand tapping his thigh. It was taking everything in him to put trust in these other people's ability to stop the gnolls, but with the rush of the chase and the number of cackles heard, he can't help but wonder why the effort.
Maybe it was he never really trusted others. Being part of a group of thieves, murderers, smugglers, and cutthroats tends to make one weary of when someone close might try and put a dagger in the back. So far, none of the current group have shown any signs of betraying one another, but still it was best to keep eyes in the back of one's head for an unseen dagger.
Nevaeh takes her place next to Kairynna, her usually tranquil face pulled taut in a cautious grimace at the approaching gnolls. She draws a mote of starlight out of thin air and mutters some words as her clothing takes on a faint iridescence and the mote fades away. She then readies her staff and shield for the possibility of violence.

Tayvello readies himself for combat, watching as the gnolls get closer, waiting to see their response to Kairynna. If the gnolls continue on and appear hostile the Tayvello with fire off a couple of Eldritch Blast at any gnoll that gets within range of his spell.
Varis, breathing heavily from his run, informs Thoradin and the others what they face to the north “6 gnolls, including one heavily armored brute who appears to be their leader, plus 6 hyenas. I do not know what lies to the east and west”
He toys with the idea of sending a fireball towards the group in the north, but hesitates. It would do no good to set the field on fire himself and complete the work for the gnolls. He looks over at Kairynna when she makes her challenge to the gnolls. “I hope you know what you are doing” if this doesn’t work they will be quickly surrounded and outnumbered.
Instead, he mutters a quiet incantation and with a gesture of his hand, a mirror image of himself appears next to him and splits into three identical forms. Each grasping their sword and staring intently to the north toward the approaching gnolls.
