Cerlinde attacks the books of bad poetry, again slashing with her dagger, which she has seemed quite skilled with, for a wizard..14 to hit. If hits 4 damage..
( a bit of backstory on Cerlinde- during “wilderness patrol” she had started a forest fire to escape from the kobolds, so she’s a little hesitant to use fire in a place with lots of precious books)
In fairness we all started that fire and I'm waiting for the arson charge haha
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Dyumi, full of the indignant rage and hatred of poetry of a highschool sophomore in AP Lit, begins to glow with a light gray aura. He blinks out of existence, reappearing 10-15 feet behind the book monster, (any surprise bonuses?) casting Thunderwave with a loud crash, far enough away from the rest of the party so as to not hit any of his friends. Books, tables, and any other unsecured library item within 15 feet of Dyumi gets blown 10 feet away from him. (do the books on the book monster count as "unsecured"?)
For the Book monster: DC 14 CON save, or take 13 Thunder damage and be pushed 10 feet towards the party (we got em surrounded now). On a failed save, it takes half damage and no push.

(Rounds 3/4 - the "You didn't tell me that bad poetry was a trigger" rounds) (Round 3)
Cerlinde apparently studied more than just books during her training and delivers another precise stab with her dagger. The second swarm is struggling to maintain its integrity.
(Round 4)
Syd lops off yet another swath of the books with yet another mighty swing. Seriously folks, that swarm of books is barely keeping it together at this point.
The pitiful remnants of the books take one last crack at Dyumi before they shuffle off their mortal spiral binding.
Book Club - attack by Swarm 2 vs. Dyumi: 17, damage: 2
Dyumi attempts to return the favour with some fancy footwork and a devastating spell, all powered by incredible teen-like angst. The party appreciates his courtesy in the placement of the effect! (I recently had several low-level party members totally wrecked by a carelessly cast thunderwave.)
While the swarm tries valiantly to evade the thunderwave with a ballerina-like pirouette the spell delivers enough force to blast apart the swarm for good. Congratulations, you are now out of combat.
(Cerlinde, really, an elf starting a forest fire?! Tsk tsk! I won't pass that information along to my elven ranger.)
Mohdrak hooked his morningstar back on his belt now that the battle was over. In an effort to help clear up the place he walked to to the toppled over bookcase and tried to push and pull it back upright.
Ollezall can detect that there are many books remaining from the swarms that carry lingering traces of the Enchantment that animated them. None of these traces are particularly strong, such that they might belong to another swarm or imbue dangerous properties to the books.
Cerlinde's initial search turns up a jeweled letter opener sitting on one of the reading desks. Could be worth something in the markets of Haven.
Mohdrak is able to lift the bookcase to its original, upright position, where it appears to be in pretty good condition. You get the sense that the homunculi will enjoy restoring the books to their proper locations on the shelf.
(Are there any types of books or other objects that you all are interested in finding?)

Dyumi will attempt to cram any undamaged books that look even remotely pricey under his cloak to sell later
Inv. 9 If there are any bejewled trinkets or other such shinies in the room, Dyumi will nab those too.

Cerlinde is looking for spellbooks (a girl can dream can’t she), books on arcana, history, or planar travel/extra dimensional spaces). (Maybe that falls under arcana). Of course she’s also looking for more of the mysterious books with the letter on the spine.

Dyumi, the other members of the party are keeping a little bit of a close eye on you, given your evasive responses regarding your altered condition. Please roll me a sleight of hand check to see if you're able to pocket any books without drawing their attention. (Depending on your roll, I'll let you know what you manage to pocket. It sounds from your description like you're trying to be discreet, if I misinterpreted, let me know.) You don't otherwise find any precious baubles in your searches. Most of Fistandia's appointments are sensible rather than ostentatious and it seems as though Cerlinde found the only noteworthy non-book item in this room.

Cerlinde easily finds 9 books on subjects that she's particularly interested in. Fistandia's library is extensive, to put it mildly. However, she appears to be somewhat eccentric and an unabashed polyglot, as many of the books that you're reviewing are in languages that are foreign to you and the rest of the party. For spell books, you find 3 of what you think are spell books, but they are virtually undecipherable. They appear to be older tomes, likely of lower level spells from Fistandia's early days of wizarding. (Mechanically, these will require assistance to transcribe and 50% greater time/cost than usual.)
Syd suggests, "Maybe we should check out that room we passed on our way to the library."
"Agreed ."
Ollezall wants to look for books on Druidic magic.
(Can you roll me Investigation w/advantage from Syd's aforementioned help?)
Something is drawing Syd to that passed over room. Something . . . martial. In your head, you hear the exclamation "FIGHT!" in the style of Street Fighter II Turbo.

Cerlinde takes the books and the letter opener. She says “some of these books may help with Haven’s dimensional issues. We will split our acquisitions when we get back to haven. Let’s go back to that other room. I could spend all day here, but I know some are ready to go…”

21 investigation check
"Syd, be prepared.....my cleric sense is tingling"
Ollezall, with assistance from Syd, finds exactly the tome that he is looking for. Its cover is made of ancient mahogany slats and it is intricately bound using a dense weave of hempen twine. The title, "The Versatile Adventurer's Guide to Surviving the Wilds", has been etched into the cover using a combination of a precise flame and expert woodcarving technique. The text is written in an ancient elvish script, but you can generally understand it. A variety of topics are covered, including descriptions of useful and exotic flora and fauna, practical techniques for wilderness survival, sections on ranger and druid culture, and of course, useful spells for negotiating those harrowing wilderness adventures, such as patrols riddled with kobolds.
