Syd breaks out a toothy grin as he listens carefully to the interchange between Ollezal and Cassandra. After the transaction is settled, he will bow to his companions. "Thanks, guys, it's been a blast. Mohdrak, stay muscle-y. Mysterious Dyumi, stay weird. Ollie my man, keep the faith and don't let your bishop find your stash. Cerlinde, you're an awesome leader, and if you ever want to check out anything from my 'alternative' library, you are welcome."
He then strolls to Harrow's side and gives him a surprise orc-hug. "Hey, cousin! Yep, I'm a one-of-a-kind orc, no doubt about it. My uncle Thistlebottom always used to say..." and he will continue to regale the cleric with an exaggerated history of his life, some of which might actually be true, as he offers to buy him a drink at the tavern of his choice.
To Harrow "yes, I think that will be my next destination; I am tired from my many ventures, I think a time of reflection is in order."
To Cassandra "150gp sounds like a fair price for the return of an apprentice. Would you like to make an offer for the information pertaining to exiting the mansion? That was not easy information to come by, and even you happen to find this information yourself, it will be without the danger we had to face in securing it. I would think this is something worthy of compensation?"
Persuasion 16
Cassandra eyes up Ollezall, her face immediately expressing irritation at his request. "While I appreciate the difficulties you've faced, I will counter that I am compensating you collectively the full sum of 750 gold for an apprentice that required extensive care upon his return. And since I now see that, for a holy man, you possess a surprising amount of avarice, my suspicions are strengthened that you have likely further enriched yourself during your time in the mansion." She pauses to let that sink in for a moment. "However, since you have saved me some time in eliminating and/or documenting the threats contained therein, I will offer you each a 75 gold credit that you can use in my shop. Will that satisfy you, cleric?"

Harrow is taken aback by the hug, then swept forward as he's ushered along to the nearest drinking hole by Syd. He can't help but travel along and wonder at both the content and veracity of Syd's tales. But mostly, Harrow is encouraged to meet an orc that's more like he is, which is to say, not a marauding force of evil. Perhaps he can hold off the Mark of Gruumsh as well as this merry prankster, Syd, has.
(Great adventuring with Syd! Thanks for all of your great posts, character development, and hilarious elements. I'll be posting a wrap-up w/final tallies for loot, level up, and details for Pphost in the next day or so, so stay tuned. I hope we can adventure again soon!)

" If I recall correctly, you were more concerned with the information your apprentice had, than with his life itself; I also recall that he passed, or rather, he ran through the portal unharmed, leaving us trapped with no regard for anyone's safety but his own. It was in fact only when he had passed to this current plane with reckless abandon for his and our safety that he was attacked, by which point the portal had closed and we were not in a position to help. If you want to take this to the justice, I'm sure it would become clear that we fulfilled the terms of the agreement; Matreous left our care intact, and willingly, at which point our responsibility for his safety ended. And we returned with information; valuable information, which has a great impact on Haven, and your research. "
Drawing breath, Ollezall continues in a more curt and cold tone "I can see you wish to take us for Rubes. Your defamatory comments are proof enough. I will accept your credit if the party also wishes to, at the least it will compensate me for consumables I had to expend because someone under your authority showed a complete disregard for my party's safety. I trait I can see is a systemic problem in your company"
Turning to Drusilla and adopting a warm tone as if speaking to a friend, or perhaps a kind grandmother figure you knew as a child "Drusilla, I would love to have further discussions about the many books of knowledge inside fistandia's vast mansion, as well as other treasures of research both tangible and not; however I feel we are intruding on your good graces just now. May I/we return on the morrow?"
Seeing Syd leave; " Ho, Syd; where are you staying? There is a few matters of final account to settle, where might be find you? You have been a value on our adventure" quietly, Ollezall will add " and hey, not so loud about the literature haha, I'm a holy man after all" Ollezall will smile ear to ear and wave as Syd departs after responding.
“Thanks for the offer on a discount, Cassandra. As you know acquiring spells is an expensive cost for a beginning wizard like myself. As the cleric said, your apprentice was injured after we let him out of the mansion. The rest of the time we spent trying to escape ourselves.
Ollezall, I can be found here, at the library I expect. I have much to learn. Syd- it has been a pleasure, and Mohdrak- thanks for the wonderful meals. Drusilla- I would like to meet with you when you have time. “
later,, Cerlinde will meet with Drusilla alone and share her annotated map with her, and offer to escort her to see the books within.

(From the Insight check against Cassandra, Ollezall can sense a mix of irritation, amusement, and pity. That such a neophyte would resort to this kind of grandstanding is clearly not sitting well with her, but she knows there is little to nothing Ollezall can do to affect her position and is not threatened. She is very serious when she replies.)
"Take you for rubes? I think not. You all have fulfilled the terms of the arrangement, as you say, and I have fulfilled mine. There was no formally agreed upon reward and I believe that what I have offered is more than fair. I think you may be forgetting that you are far from the first adventurer that I've dealt with, and a great many of them have been far more capable than you, Ollezall. None so mouthy, perhaps, or as ungrateful. What did you expect, that you would simply solve one puzzle and out would pop Matreous, no dirt on your hands or skinned knees? No youngster, you are an adventurer, or at least you like to call yourself one. Keep in mind, Ollezall, that Haven is a small place and there are adventurers aplenty, all of them willing to chase glory and treasure. You may have your own ideas about me, but I am a well-respected and influential person in this town. My word can secure your position with the Exploration House or see you relegated to ministering to the sick at the Temple, and I imagine you know how lucrative that would be. Oh, and just think of all the consumables!" She pauses briefly, frowning, considering whether to expend more breath on the subject, but she feels compelled. "As for the safety of those I work with, Matreous disobeyed my instructions and I sent for help as soon as I was able. You can be sure that I will further impress upon him the occasionally dangerous nature of his work with me. Magic is a risky business, after all. And regarding my benefit from all of this, I have no interest in personal enrichment, despite the intimations of my colleage, Drusilla, over there. Yes, I may covet knowledge, but my work is for the good of Haven, to help understand and stabilize this domain, to help people return to their homes if they choose. What are your motivations, Ollezall? Take it to the justice indeed. Despite your impudence, my reward and offer of credit to you still stands, I am a mage of my word."
Cassandra then turns to Drusilla, addressing her politely and professionally. "I think our young friend Harrow was right. This should be brought before the Triumvirate for further consideration, as the discoveries here likely will touch upon a wide array of concerns. As Haven's preeminent bookkeeper, I would of course wish to utilize your expertise to better understand and catalog what we're dealing with. Bring our friend Cerlinde along as well, if she would be amenable. Let us take up the matter tomorrow, I'd prefer to start as soon as possible. Now, if you'll all excuse me, it is late and there is much to do. I must get some rest before the morrow. All of you, come by the shop at your leisure to collect your reward." Feeling that matters have been satisfactorily settled, Cassandra exits.
Drusilla gives a perfunctory smile and nod, silently assenting to the plan laid out by Cassandra. She turns to Ollezall and chuckles to herself, shaking her head. "I don't think I've ever seen one as green as you attempt to go that route with Cassandra. You kill a few kobolds and crawling hands and you think you're John Rambo all of a sudden? You've certainly got a pair on ya, I'll give you that."Ollezall recalls seeing a copy of First Blood back in the store while they were perusing the stacks before the adventure. She acknowledges Cerlinde as well and continues, "Regardless of your motivations or what Cassandra thinks of you, you've done Haven a great service and have proven yourselves. For that, I'll happily grant you the time you ask for. Come by when you have a chance. I imagine I will be tied up in this matter with the Triumvirate for some portion of the day tomorrow, but you know where to find me." She raises her arms and gestures for everyone to bring it in for a group hug, with a mirthful smile and a glimmer in her eyes.
Thus Rambo or the Rambo films canonically exist in Pphost? :p
Seeing the situation not play out as he feared made Mohdrak relax his grip on his weapons. It was a shame to hear about the apprentice but he rationalised that was outside their scope to deal with at the time. But the others were far better at explaining what went down in the mansion and all in all one could deem it a satisfying conclusion to the whole ordeal. All was well that ended well.
The minotaur did remember something and he meekly stepped forward to address Cassandra and Drusilla. 'I- uhm... picked some things up while we were covering the grounds.' He told her and pulled several things out of his backpack. 'I'm not up to date on what the deal is with found things but I'm not willing to risk theft.'
In his hand Mohdrak held a book dangling from a chain, a rather intimidating looking helmet and a pouch that smelled like thirteen different flavours blended together. 'I'll be happy to return these if desired. Or perhaps you have a better inkling of what to do with these.'
Suddenly the backpack in front of him began to slightly purr. Modrak scratched the back of of his neck somewhat embarrassed. 'I also picked up a friend?' He shrugged with a disarming smile.
I would imagine it's a fantasy equivalent, but he's a classic archetype that deserves to be in every potentially violent setting ;-) Drusilla has the novelization of every movie in her collection, as far as I know!
Cassandra looks over the stash revealed by Mohdrak. "Oh Mohdrak, our all-around champion. I certainly appreciate your honesty. It seems like you've managed to pick up a few items that are well-suited to you. I can't imagine that the wizardess will be too put out by you holding on to those. I'd like to take a look at that unusual flail, though, if you don't mind." Cassandra waits for your assent, then picks it up with a measure of self-assurance, gripping the handle and swinging the book up into her free hand. Primarily, she examines the book at the end of the chain, turning it over, attempting to read what is left on the cover. After generally satisfying herself that the weapon is of no academic value, she returns it to Mohdrak. "Very interesting indeed, I'm curious as to why one would fashion such a weapon, but a fine souvenir and it is well-balanced. Enjoy your time with it!" While handing over the flail, the concealed feline, Nyxie, makes its presence known with its purring.
Drusilla giggles upon hearing this unexpected sound. "What have you there, Mohdrak? I hope you haven't pilfered one of the extraplanar creatures from the mansion!" At that point, the cat pushes its way out of the backpack and starts meowing loudly. They are happy meows of greeting, as if Nyxie is excited to meet all these new people. Nyxie looks back up at Mohdrak, meows again, and walks back over to him, purring.
(All right everyone, I'm very happy to continue RP'ing any further interactions, but in the interest of formally releasing you from the adventure, I think we've basically reached the conclusion. My sincere thanks to all of you for hanging in there with me and creating some great characters. You definitely made my life as a DM easier and kept me entertained. I hope you found some enjoyment in the adventure as well and that you might consider adventuring with us in Haven in the future. I'd be happy to either DM for you again or join you as a player. For your reference, here is the campaign link one last time, wherein you will find a summary of the adventure along w/the loot and rewards you picked up. Each of your characters has advanced a level and you now have 24 days of downtime to spend in Haven, doing things like haggling over items at Myk's Magic Shoppe, gambling and carousing at the Copper Dragon, or furthering your education at Drusilla's Forest. Learn more about Haven in general, or participate in some role play around town. If you have any questions or feedback, or just want to keep in touch, send me a PM! Thanks again, you all are great!)
Cerlinde will meet with Drusilla and go back through the mansion with her, and will spend much of the downtime researching the books in the mansion.
(That was awesome - thanks again. Hope to play with all soon!
I’m working on a home brew adventure for levels 3-5 when we have some of those PCs, and I’ll be using your excellent example of how to Dm in PBP, EtyenAdiros.
I hope to see some of you there, probably a few months out in RL)
Loot division- cerlinde would like to take the statue for the Homunculus creation- she’d like to make one when she’s powerful enough. She also has the jeweled letter opener we could sell as a group- She will keep the other items Currently on her inventory (in the loot summary) unless there’s someone that wants them- she’s willing to pay the group out of her share if she can afford it.
(Cerlinde has her carefully annotated map, but she won’t show that to anyone yet- especially not Cassandra!)
Syd breaks out a toothy grin as he listens carefully to the interchange between Ollezal and Cassandra. After the transaction is settled, he will bow to his companions.

A massive thank you for DMing us EtyenAdiros! I would love to play again with each of you, you all have such enjoyable characters.
See you around town
