Assuming Evy shares her (lack of) findings with him, Val whispers: "Should we just trek back or do you think they are waiting to ambush us? I'm guessing they are hoping the owlbear will take us down, and they can surprise us if we try to run away from the beast."

"What is going on here? Surely they heard of camping intruders the night before and the falling rocks from the other room. Why are they lounging?" Maldorn think to himself and then whispers it to his cousin as he describes what he sees. "Maybe we can take them?"
"Are they a family group? Not the fighters, maybe? Are there a lot of them?" Val seems confused about whether there are three, or thirteen, and Evy would dearly like to know. She ties her hair up with a cord from her pouch while he replies.

Val is not liking this approach, but stays back in the shadow for now in case things get aggressive. He is planning to lunge forward at the first sign that his cousin is in danger.

I should clarify. The sounds she heard before were not necessarily sounds of individuals approaching — just sounds of people moving.
(Ohhhhh… we almost had owlbear-sized problems for no reason. Still, this is pretty on brand. 😂)
