As soon as the first troglodyte notices Evy, it makes an alarming sound, which alerts the others. Looking around, Evy counts 10 creatures. They all retreat out of the chamber. There are two corridors leading out of the chamber — one up to the left and one up to the right. They all hurry through the one up to the left.
The room appears to be a combination sleeping and living chamber. It isn't anything very nice, but who's to say what's nice to a troglodyte?
Assuming his hiding efforts had been flawless, Val steps out of the shadow and addresses his cousin: "Ten vs one and they still ran away... Perhaps you were right. These were the civilians. Shall we take the path they didn't?"
Evy looks at the corridor skeptically. "It seems unlikely they would run away to their death, so yes, that seems the best way for us to do so." She laughs lightly, though it comes ut a little forced. Then she indicates he should lead.

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
(The path they didn’t. I see how it might be confusing, but Evy meant that it was unlikely they would run away towards the Thessalhydra, so she thinks the monster is most likely to be down the hallway they did not take. Therefore, we should take that one if we want to find the monster. Which we do, for some inexplicable reason. :)

Val moves past Evy and toward the passage on the right. It also immediately doglegs to the right. He follows the path around, not seeing or hearing anything dangerous. He reaches another larger chamber and halts. The room is inexplicably dotted with treasure!
Hanging back to give Val room to encounter danger first, Evy hears some sounds coming from the other tunnel. She listens and doesn't really hear much movement, but instead many "troglodyte language" noises from excited trogs trying and failing to be quiet.
Assuming Evy shares her findings, Val whispers back at her: "It sure sounds like they are enjoying leading us down the path they wanted us to follow, don't you think?"
"I can't tell what they are saying, but yes, perhaps they are excited for us to kill their god," she says with a smirk. And perhaps a touch of bravado she may not actually feel. "Let's see if we can at least put eyes on this thing. They didn't;t seem to concerned living this close to it."

Val shrugs: "I fear we are walking the exact path they hoped we would, but we are not the careful type anyway. Onward we go. If we die, let it be glorious."
Val already did that: Val moves past Evy and toward the passage on the right. It also immediately doglegs to the right. He follows the path around, not seeing or hearing anything dangerous. He reaches another larger chamber and halts. The room is inexplicably dotted with treasure!
Val follows his cousin's instructions, walking around the edge of the room toward the next exit to the right. As he walks, Val lets his sense for magic sources open up.
-> Magic Awareness: As an action, you can open your awareness to the presence of concentrated magic. Until the end of your next turn, you know the location of any spell or magic item within 60 ft. of you that isn’t behind total cover. When you sense a spell, you learn which school of magic it belongs to.
As Val opens his mind to the influence of magic, he immediately senses that all that is ahead of them is not as it seems. As he moves toward the passage heading out of the room, he can see that the walls almost immediately change from rough-hewn or natural stone to smooth, carved stone. He steps to the opening and looks down the path. The hallway — it definitely looks more like a wide hallway than a tunnel — is about 50 feet deep and ends at a wall with a large closed door. The hallway appears to be candlelit, though there are no candles or torches visible.

(OOC: I'm a little confused. Are we taking the path the enemies took or the one they didn't?)

Val nods and leads his cousin down the chosen path.
Val moves past Evy and toward the passage on the right. It also immediately doglegs to the right. He follows the path around, not seeing or hearing anything dangerous. He reaches another larger chamber and halts. The room is inexplicably dotted with treasure!

What's your response, Evy?
(Erp, sorry.)

So you want to just pass through the room? There is a passage heading to the right.
Yes, pass through the room the troglodytes were in before Evy scared them away. Down the passage they did not go down.

Right, and Val is leading the way.

Yeah, Evy does not trust this room. As she comes up behind Val, she indicates they should move around the perimeter of the room.

Not difficult to do if that's what Val wants to do. There is a passage leading out of the room to the right.
He whispers: "Too good to be true, right?"
Val follows his cousin's instructions, walking around the edge of the room toward the next exit to the right. As he walks, Val lets his sense for magic sources open up.

Evy follows Val at the 10' standard distance. watching her footing.
