{{I was going to ask whether darkvision will affect the roll, but I think Mavis will just freeze in place, thinking more about the many traps that can be fitted into the secret chamber without really focusing on looking for them.}}
Anyone nearby can hear Mavis mumbling and humming as he stares into the room, 'Yes, perhaps... Hmm... The poleaxe is possible... Wire maybe... Hmm... A guillotine? There was mention of... Hmm...'

Xai'Bo looks from the picture back down to Rose, remembering Day's description of the third floor. "Are you sure Walter is upstairs?", he asks, and moves with the children over to the bottom of the stairs to take a look for signs of footprints going up. He whispers a short prayer in Elvish as he looks.
The secret room may be dark and dusty, but there was perhaps enough light from somewhere that allowed Melantha and Sirron to see the treasure chest and the skeleton.
The green warlock, after snapping out of their shock of seeing the meatless corpse, took a short moment to pull out a crowbar from their backpack. They then tapped the long end of the crowbar along the floor and the frame of the opening, to check for traps.
If there are no traps, Melantha will inch close enough past the opening to look up for any ceiling traps.
There are three separate tracks on the stairs, two small ones heading downward which presumably belong to Rose and Thorn, and a larger set from a pair of heels that goes both up and down.
Sirron watched Melantha tap the floor and frame of the door with a crowbar they had pulled from their pack. He hesitated for a moment before taking a few steps closer to the entrance of the secret room, keeping a short distance behind them just in case something got triggered. He glanced upwards for a moment and took a breath before gently tapping his fingers against the sides of his coat as he thought about a way to assist them in their search.
"Perhaps it might be a good idea to find something that we could use to make it easier to see in the room so we don't unintentionally trigger a trap that may have been missed in the initial check for them." He suggested with a soft hum.

(Am I able to tell the direction the larger tracks were going most recently?)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Yes, yes. We need a lantern or magic light." Melantha agreed as they continued to reach about with their crowbar, this time on the walls on the other side of the entrance for a light switch. "No big open flames, though, please. Might catch something on fire. Quite dusty in here. Little candle can do."
Ruel had been wavering between the group searching the secret passage and Xai'bo on the stairs.
Hearing Melanthas request, he knew that he had only a torch in his pack his eyes scoured his immediate surroundings to see whether there were any lanterns attached to the walls that would could be detached and suit their purpose.
"A lantern, magic light or a candle...?" Sirron questioned with a soft hum. He stopped tapping and glanced back in the direction of where the desk was for a moment before shaking his head slightly. He began to rummage in his pack, not exactly sure if he had anything that could be of use in a situation such as this. "I don't know if there's a lantern about but on the off chance we can't find one I think I might have a few candles that we could use in my pack. Although I have to admit a lantern or perhaps a lamp would give off more light."
Xai’Bo looked back to see how the others were doing. Seeing they were still working on the problem he turned to the children and asked, “So where are your rooms, surely not upstairs as well?”
Ruel unhooked one of the oil lanterns from the wall and using his Tinderbox lit it and then brought it carefully towards the hidden room illuminating as much as he could.
Mavis is broken from his musing when he sees the chamber being illuminated by Sir Ruel's lantern. Looking around, he unhooks another lantern and lights it with his tinderbox. He moves closely with slow and measured steps behind Sir Ruel to support both him and the brave little one that he is sure is called Melantha in case they find anything dangerous in the chamber.
Sirron stops rummaging around in his backpack and had just pulled out the candle he had found when he noticed Ruel and Mavis had both procured lanterns. A soft sigh escaped him as he hesitated slightly before glancing at the candle for a couple seconds and then he carefully placed it back into his pack. He scratched the back of his neck slightly as he turned back towards the hidden room, hoping that they wouldn't find anything out of the ordinary, other than the skeleton in there.
"Two lanterns, that should be enough to light the room although it's possible we may only need one. That being said, it's always good to be prepared for any eventually... or at least that's what my old man use to tell me."
There are three corroded darts stuck in the skeleton's armour and rib cage. The room is ancient, the wallpaper peeling and covered in mildew. Cobwebs thickly coat the shelves, making it impossible to read the titles of the leather bound grimoires from here.
It's clear that no-one's been in this room for a very long time. It's possible that any traps in here have broken down from age.

(Downwards. The small tracks are the most recent.)
The hall is fitted with unlit oil lanterns. You could easily unhook one from its place on the wall.

Seeing the lanterns' light glow from behind them, Melantha peered into the secret room.
What do they see now that the room is illuminated?
