Feeling confident the spell was successful, OldMan calmly steps out from the bushes where he had crept up to the cave entrance. Smiling he waves to the Orc as if they are old friends. He walks carefully and still as quiet as possible not knowing for sure who else might be around. As he approaches the cave entrance and the orc he tries to equally investigate the area using his darkvision to peer into the cave. But also keeping eye contact with the charmed orc.
Speaking loud enough for the orc to hear but not so loud as to cause a commotion for anyone inside the cave, OldMan says, "Hello old friend. It is good to see you. Your face is so familiar and kind however I cannot place your name. Could you remind me who you are? And what are you doing out here in the hot sun? Aren't your fiends around?"
Moonraker sees Tubard approach and Galen has his focus on the entranch, he readies his longsword and keeps a sharp eye out around their current location for any sneak attacks (18 + 1 = 19 Investigation)
The orc waves nonchalantly at OldMan, as if greeting an old friend, and responds in a brusque, deep voice, "Oh, you know how it goes, ol' friend. We's posted up here as a main campsite for our raiding parties. They stuck 'ol Ghug out here as sentry. Everyone else gets to rest inside by the warm fire while I's is stuck out 'ere."
OldMan does not see any other signs of life, out here or in the mouth of the cave. Moonraker advances under stealth to Galben's position. Tubard flanks the other direction, rather clumsily at times, clinking and clanking occasionally. OldMan is able to keep Ghug occupied so he does not take notice of the extra noise.
"Ah yes Ghug it is. I am so forgetful these days. I am sorry that you must sit out here while the others are inside fat and lazy. Could you tell me how many are inside the cave eating their fill? Are there others out raiding? I have friends who might enjoy a nice snooze by the fire later. I have not been luck enough to go in this cave. What is it like inside? Long? Tall? Also you mentioned that you are posted here. Who is your boss that assigns you a post? I do appreciate your help. I think I might have something for you to drink here somewhere."
OldMan pats his robes and pockets as if looking for a lost set of keys.
Ghug thinks a moment, scratching his head trying to remember all of your questions. "Let'see. I think there's five, no six orcs, and our ogre. 'Is name is Gog. The one who gives orders around 'ere is Brughor Axe-Biter. He'll be back there too. The cave isn't very deep - it's just a single bend and then the main room where we eat and sleep. Keeps the rain off and the cold out, y'know? You said you have a drink? Is it ale?"
I'd be down for a remote play. I'm flexible in the evenings Wed, Thurs, and have all day Friday off. I'm also off next week, too. We could remote play right on Roll20
OldMan smiles warmly at Ghug. Then frowns. "I am sorry Ghug I definitely have some ale but I think it was left back on the wagon. I will go get you a flask in a moment. Axe Biter? That name sounds familiar. Again I am sorry for being so forgetful. We elves live long lives and therefore forget who we've heard stories about. Is Brughor a proud orc like yourself? I feel like I've heard the name but I can't picture a face with the name. Doesn't he have a special weapon?"
Tubard coughs up blood and looks at his duck Ferdinand "Where the hell were you at?" Ferdinand replies "Sorry Sire, I was tending to my ruffled feathers and got distracted." Tubard rolls his eyes and says "How about you feather the blow next time."
The night passes uneventfully, the eerie quiet punctuated only by the drips of stained blood and remains of the battle waged the day prior. The party loads the wagon with your newly captured loot and sets out on the Triboar Trail back toward Phandalin, a day and a half's ride from the Castle. Returning to town, Gundren remarks on the friendly waves and nods you all receive as you enter the sleepy hamlet.
"I take it you dispensed of the Redbrand scourge? They were a menace and good riddance, I say."
Gundren hops off the wagon near Barthen's Provisions at the north end of town.
"Now, my friends, you have my sincere and eternal gratitude, and you certainly deserve something of a reward. Here, I'd like each of you to have 25 gp (per person) for coming to my rescue. More importantly, I'd like to offer you a business proposition, one that could be highly lucrative were you to succeed. Help me secure Wave Echo Cave and learn the fate of my brothers, and for your trouble, I will give you a 10% share of the mine's wealth once I have the operation up and running. Thank you again, my friends. I look forward to seeing you all again very soon."
And with that, Gundren heads off, leaving you with his map to Wave Echo Cave.
Quest Unlocked: Wave Echo Cave
Since your last reprieve in Phandalin, you all have completed several quests:
Quest Complete: Orc Trouble - The party visits Harbin Wester at the Townmaster's Hall and receive 100 gp (in total) for dispensing of the orcs at Wyvern Tor.
Quest Complete: Finding Cragmaw Castle - While at the Townmaster's Hall, the party checks in with Sildar, sharing news of your successful vanquishing of the goblins at Cragmaw Castle. Ever a man of his word, Sildar hands you a coinpurse with 500 gp in it.
You also completed the Side Quest: Mirna's Heirloom when you found her necklace in the Ruins of the Thundertree, which Mirna gave you directions for as reward for her rescue from the Redbrands. This can be sold at the Phandalin Miner's Exchange for 200 gp.
Here are your quests that are still incomplete:
Quest: The Banshee's Bargain - Recently, Garaele’s superiors asked her to undertake a delicate mission. They wanted her to persuade a banshee named Agatha to answer a question about a spellbook. Garaele sought out Agatha in her lair, but the creature did not appear for her. Garaele desires an intermediary to bring Agatha a suitable gift, a jeweled silver comb, and persuade the creature to tell what she knows about the location of a spellbook belonging to a legendary mage named Bowgentle. Sister Garaele believes that a character who flatters Agatha’s vanity might be able to trade the comb for an answer.
Quest: Old Owl Well - Prospectors in the hills northeast of Phandalin that someone is digging around in the ruins known as Old Owl Well. More disturbingly, several prospectors have reported being chased from the area by undead. a two-day march northeast of Phandalin, and find out who’s there and what they’re up to. I know that the ruins are an old watchtower of an ancient magical empire known as Netheril, so be careful - I fear that dangerous magic might be dormant there.
Quest: Wave Echo Cave - Gundren asked you to secure Wave Echo Cave and to learn the fate of his brothers.
Galben will undoubtedly be making trips around town to sell your loot - post a list of what you'd like to sell and I'll give you a total gp earned.
Are there other purchases you all would like to make or business you need to attend to in Phandalin?
Let's post that by the end of this week and then select which quest you plan to pursue next.
This is what we have to sell, if anyone wants any of this just post and take it. Once the DM gives me a total in exchange for the loot. I'll post how much everyone gets and that will include what we got from completing those 3 quests. (These prices on the right are if they were new, that will not be how much we should get. Just wanted you to know that)
(When Galben arrives back in town he seeks out Mirna. When he finds her he returns the family heirloom necklace the group has found)
"We wanted you to have this back. I know how important an heirloom can be." (As he clutches the silver necklace (a gift from his parents) around his neck.)

FYI group. If we are all snowed in Thur and Fri maybe we should try to do a gaming session somehow over zoom or discord etc.

(Galben distributes the Healing potions to the group) (It has been updated in the spreadsheet)
"What direction should we go from here?"
:Pants: (exhausted)
"Someplace with soft beds, warm food... and accommodating bar maids".
flicking each blade to displace the green sanguine, then cleaning the steel with pieces of disaffected hide from the dispatched orcs.
"in lieu of finer comforts, might we reinforce the doors, and rest a bit?"
(Galben looks at Thallan)
"Let's stay here for a little while and figure out where in the castle we want to go next. Does anyone need healing?"
Gingerly placing his sword back in it's sheath, grimacing from his wounds, Moonraker says:
"I could use a pick-me-up, Galben."
Jake, feeling as if he's been controlled by someone else, snaps to.
"Healing? Did someone need healing?"
Jake casts cure wounds on Moonraker for 9 points of healing.
"That should help a little."
