Joren shivers. Looks around again wildly for a moment, searching for the camouflaged giant 12-legged translucent bugs. Then he squares his shoulders.
He sends his echo to the most solid looking area on the far ledge and if nothing attacks it, switches places. He takes a moment to scan there for enemies and hazards, moving the echo over to join him on the far side and stand at his back. Taking out Vilus gear, he hammers pitons as quietly as possible, tying off a rope, and throwing the other end of the rope back across the gap. So that if someone jumps and doesn't quite make it, they can have the rope tied around them and Joren can pull them up. And if those creatures are waking up, it is we who are becoming the bloody smears on the wall.
Each hammer strike echoes through the cavern, but the sound quickly becomes small and weak, swallowed up by the open space until metal on stone sounds like little more than a steady drip of water. Nothing else in the cavern stirs.
(If anyone tries to jump or climb across while tied off and doesn't make their roll, then they can make a stealth check to avoid making too much noise, and Joren can make an athletics check with advantage to pull them up)
Ashley listens to the plan and looks at the blood stain and pick axe, the whole situation worries her. "Do you think we can use a hammer and be quiet enough not to wake those things?? I do not have any spells that can help us unfortunately. But wait a second.." She closes her eyes and concentrates, the flames of her hair looking like wind has blown through them. (Using a bonus action to convert sorcery points to spell slots) "I can still conjure my earthen hand.. have it come out on the side there, and then we could have two shorter leaps instead of one large one? Though the movement of the earth, I've never paid attention to how loud that is?"
(I'm sorry - just realized I was on 65 and missed the last posts.) She'll just follow along with the hammer and pitons.

Malachi glances upwards nervously as he realizes the blood stain was likely caused by one of those larger creatures perched on the stone walls above. Luckily for them, the unknown miner had almost closed the distance to the opening. As Joren and his echo secure the pitons on the far side and tosses the rope over, Malachi ties the rope around himself and prepares to be the first to attempt to cross. He picks up the discarded pickaxe and hands it to Vilus “This could come in handy if we have to do more tunneling through cave-ins later, we should bring it along.”
Moving back from the end of the ledge a little, Malachi gets a running start and leaps across the opening, planting his right foot against the wall halfway across for a second jump, similar to the rooftop leaps he used to do on occasion in Mardurst.
The wall doesn't have a lot of texture, but that hardly matters to someone used to walls of clay. Malachi lands on the far ledge beside Joren on the balls of his toes, and gives a quick windmill of his arms to bring his weight forward, allowing him to step forward to safety.
Samir eyes the gap nervously, fidgeting. "I am a bit worried about making the jump, honestly. Perhaps if others go first and can brace in case I... well, in case I miss."
"ok! Brace yourself Marion" Vilus takes a running jump, grabbing the pitoned rope as he goes and making sure there's enough slack to not pull Marion along on the other end of his waist.

Vilus makes a valiant leap, but had to go wide to avoid clipping the wall. Too wide. He takes 3 bludgeoning damage as his chest slams into the ledge and his arms scramble for purchase.
(Make a stealth roll, Vilus. And Joren can make his athletics with advantage to help Vilus up.)
Vilus quickly scrambles up without much fuss or noise, and just another bruise to add to the party's growing collection of injuries. Everyone holds for a moment, watching for movement from the large insectoid creatures, but nothing stirs. A collective sigh of relief is let out.

Ashley watches in shock as Vilus tumbles but slowly lets out a breath of relief as they were smart enough to tie off before they tried the jump. She waits until Vilus is untied and the rope is tossed back over to her. She ties it around her waist, takes in a couple of deep breaths and goes for it. Jumping the gap as well as she can.

The gap is wide, and the angle bad. Like Vilus, Ashley thuds into the wall (1 damage), just barely managing to find purchase with her hands on the ledge. Her stomach sinks as she eyes the fall below her, but the rope is still secure, as is her grip.
(Stealth and Athletics again, but with Vilus helping, both can be rolled with advantage)
Joren clasps forearms with the goliath he calls Silas and nods with respect, all prior animosity gone through the bonding of surviving danger together.
As the two brace and it is Ashley's turn, Joren's heart leaps into his throat and his adrenaline surges as he sees her leap come short. This fire genasi, cast out from her people just as he was, who has welcomed him as a friend with such openness and warmth. It cannot end like this.
If we are losing her to the chasm, never will I be forgiving myself in this life or after. Untying myself and jumping in after her if that is what it is taking.
JorenAthletics at advantage to pull Ashley up: 26 (natural 20) ((Rolled on character sheet, visible on campaign log.))
Finding a reserve of desperate strength he did not know he had, Joren hauls Ashley up with an urgent swiftness, hoping only that it is quiet enough...
Once Vilus is over he respectfully returns the nod to Joren and takes up position behind him.
Vilus beckons for any incoming members of the party to throw their rope over before jumping, giving another safe guard as Vilus holds the rope and Joren catches the person.
(Could I use the help action here to give advantage to Joren's remaining athletic rolls?)
(forgot to roll with advantage, let me know if that isn't enough and I will)
Ashley's heart sinks as she can tell she isn't going to make it and just as she stares the open cavern below feeling it is going to swallow her, Joren yanks her up to safety. She is very bloodied at this point, hurting all over and just wants to rest. She takes a moment before untying herself, just leaning into Joren. She knows she's warm to the touch, but she hopes he doesn't mind as she needs a bit of human contact to get through the rest of this nightmare.
Once she has composed herself, she unties the rope from around her waist and tosses it back over the jump, hoping Samir is ready.

Ashley's feet do not even have time to swing into the wall of the chasm before Joren has her hoisted up over the ledge.
(Stealth check no longer required for Ashley)

(Joren already has advantage on helping people up, but Vilus could give advantage to the jumpers themselves.)
(that works! At this point Vilus just wants to help out to get things moving, he wants a rest haha)
