William readies his whip (if there's enough room to use it, otherwise it'll be a dagger).
From the floor you wouldn't have an appropriate angle to hit it and up the ladder there would not be room, so your dagger would likely be the best option
Gerty and Luke manage to peel the snarling beast from her chest, it twists and turns to break free of their grasp then makes a dash back into the hay pile. You hear the sound of scratching down through the back wall as it scrambles down through unseen hole.
William just pokes his head above the ladder with his dagger held at the ready as the racoon dives into the hay. The chittering sounds it makes seem awfully close to curse words.
Rikaria and Sasha follow the grass trail towards where she saw the darker spot in the tallish grass. As they approach, they hear a voice muttering something, they can’t quite make out, coming from the darkened area which they can now see is a large hole in the ground. Some kind of pit. They are approximately 10’ away from the pit at this time.
Rikaria's first instinct is that Mister Cartwright has been hurt! Older gentleman that he is, he may have fallen into this pit by some accident and now can't get out. She rushes to the lip of the pit and looks over into it, calling "Mister Cartwright? Is that you? Are you alright? It's Rikaria Calandry and Sasha Vakaris, we're here to help!"
Luke looks at Gerty and takes out some cloth from his bag to give to her to clean herself up"Gert are you ok? I've never known a raccoon to attack like that, especially in the daytime!"

You peer into the pit and you can now make out clearly the cursing Mr Cartwright.
” Dang greenskinned, cattle rustling, pie stealing some of beetches…”
“ Ahh, Rikaria, help me outa these hole…I am ok, just bruised ego and all that…”
Ben stands up and brushes himself off. The pit seems to be about 10’ deep and 5’ in diameter. At the bottom you can see what looks like tightly woven grass mat and thin branches, along with a thin plank which is broken in half. Ben is just barely 5’ in height and can’t reach the top edge.
She gratefully takes the cloth from Luke, "Wow, thanks. yeah, that was out of nowhere."
As she starts heading down the ladder after Will, she hears Rikaria yelling from somewhere out back and looks back up to Luke, "Sounds like Rik might have found something, lets go find out."
Mr Carwright while waiting for your aid to get out curses a bit more under his breath and asks, “ Has Karl and Camford returned? They chased after a few of them buggers, the ones riding my poor milk cow Gelda. I could hear her brass bell tinkling from my pit O’ despair…they must have gone plumb through the forest by now..probably halfway into the Evermoors, Gods forbid”
"Oh Mister Cartwright!" she exclaims "Don't worry, we'll find something to help you out of there and be right back!"
Rikaria will turn and run for the barn where (I assume) she'll see Gerty and the others making their way in her direction. From across the field she'll shout to them "Gerty!! Luke! Billy! Shariel! Mister Cartwright's fallen, but he's alright! See if you can find a ladder in the barn?"
After giving the instructions to the others regarding the ladder, Rikaria returns to the pit, deciding they'd better not leave him alone down there. She responds to his question "We haven't seen Karl or Camford or anyone but you since since we arrived. It was cattle rustlers, Mister Cartwright? How long ago? Have you been down here a while?"
“ Aye, I’ve been stuck in this here hole for at least an hour, mayhaps two…almost caught that little pie thief. I stumbled on his sneaky self when I went to fetch some water..Sucker was munching my pies, at my own table….ran off with a few of them….I hope the boys are alright, they shouldn’t have have followed into the forest.. maybe they went to town to get some help”
"We just came from town..." Rikaria replies with a note of anxiety in her voice. "We would've passed them on the road if they'd been goin' that way. I'm sure they're alright, Mister Cartwright. Karl and Camford are pretty tough."
She's not entirely certain about the statement. Sure, the hands were tough, but these rustlers seem like they must have come in with a plan if they'd been preparing pit traps, and they must be pretty tough themselves to be bold enough to walk right into the house through the backdoor and steal a pie! She looks towards Sasha, hoping she'll provide some further reassurance to the old man.
Gerty hears Rikaria yell about a ladder as she leaves the barn, so she quickly turns on her heel and heads back to the barn, "Will, Luke, will one of you help me carry the ladder? Looks like it is needed!"
Luke follows Gerty down “Uhh I may have some rope in my bag” Luke looks through his backpack and pulls out a rope “Easier to carry than the ladder” He shrugs

It will take you 2 rounds to get to the darker area
Roll a strength check if you are trying to pry it off or an attack if you wish to strike it. With advantage because Lukenia aiding you

(Rounds? Should we roll initiative?)
Ok, so William holds his dagger in one hand while the other holds on to the ladder. I'm assuming he doesn't know what's attacking Gerty?
Player: Any Good Alignment // DM: Lawful Evil
No, rounds as a measure of time. Basically, you will reach the area by the time the barn situation resolves
Once you get to the top you will recognize it
Gerty, looking greatfully at Luke for helping her, goes to yank off the critter and throw it over the loft
STR check w/advantage 20
