The devil resists Angus' compulsion and stands its ground.
Tetrevess, from his seat on the starry chamber, csn see easily into the rooms b3yond the open arches.
To the west:
The walls of this roughly triangular room are filled with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. Hundreds of books and scrolls were thrown free of their resting places when the city crashed and now cover the floor. Time and bitter cold have not been kind to them.
To the east:
A ten-foot-tall spindle of gray stone hovers upright and rotates slowly inside this circular chamber. All around it, the surfaces of the room’s walls are cracked, as though some terrible energy once coursed through them.

The barbed devil summons in the darkness a ball of flame above each open palm. Once fully formed to about the size of a bowling ball, it hurls one at Sam and the other at Angus (no AD/DA on either, though if he moved farther away, it would have DA)
x Sam 17 for 10 fire damage
x Angus 21 for 10 fire damage
(No idea why tbe reroll, but x Angus originally was 16)
Tetrevess is so thrown off by the sight of so many ancient and presumably magical books and scrolls he’s momentarily stunned, but the sound of combat, and avarice’s warning, wakes him up. He returns outside the fight, and listens intently at the darkness.
He listens for Sam, and angus, reaching out to them through the telepathic bond to confirm locations, and then attempts to shoot one of the orbs of light circling his head into the devil. (Crown of stars with disadvantage 17 to hit, 40 radiant damage).
Sam feels the heat of the sulfurous flames as the barbed devil is hit by the crown of stars launched by Twtrevess. The fiend screeching as he disappears.
“Umm.. sorry. Did I get it? Sam- angus… Chadderly? All ok? Sounded fiendish. There’s a lot of.. err books over here. Oh we need to worry about those swords don’t we. What were we supposed to do?” He again appears confused and befuddled. The remaining balls of light orbit his head, his long brown beard having seemingly grown inches in just the last day. He blinks. “Books”. He says, and walks towards the library.

Most of the books and scrolls that litter the floor have been ruined by centuries of disuse, but two documebts survive: a scroll and a brittle tome with a black, eight-pointed star on its front cover. This former records the various meetings of the Wizards of the Ebon Star. One passage explains, in the Draconic script, that “Master Iriolarthas opens the door to his study when three or more of his apprentices—or those empowered by the goblet in the House of the Arcane—are seated correctly in the Chamber of the Ebon Star.”

Avarice, who's been following at a distance, emerges from tbe darkness along with Morwena, apparently unmolested by any fiends, noting the starry faux-sky overhead she hears Sam claiming the scroll and hurries to intercede. "What is it you've found there? Can you read it?"
She seems very interested in the scroll, and she's trying way to hard to seem nonchalant about it as she tries to peek over Sam's huge shoulder to glimpse the scroll. Morwena is present, but silently awaits the answer

Morwena grabs the brittle tone and reads from the text, finding the passage above that describes sitting in chairs matching the schools of wizardry.

[If anyone wishes to unlock the double doors with they key, you can do so while Morwena leafs theough the aforementioned tome]
Morwena saunters calmly but quickly to the center of the starry room and finds the chair of the Enchanment school. T shared with the others what was found, and the words in the book. “Powerful scroll. Remind me to stay on your good side. I’ll try the key- unless I should wait?” He will try the key on the double doors

“Nice view! And a way out.. I suppose. Which we might need. Can I help with chair sitting? Uh oh… the blade is back..”. Tetrevess says. He pockets the adamantine key, and launches one of his stars of light at the blade..

Any inputs from Chadderlay or Tetrevess? Angus and Sam can act in combat with the devil at this time.
Tetrevess is so thrown off by the sight of so many ancient and presumably magical books and scrolls he’s momentarily stunned, but the sound of combat, and avarice’s warning, wakes him up. He returns outside the fight, and listens intently at the darkness.

The other document is the scroll of the comet
Also found among the rubble is an adamantine key. The key is nonmagical.

“It is about some lose threads that I have” he gives Avarice the document
The teifling considers as she squints to try and discern the text of the scroll. "...indeed" she replies.

The key fits and the double door swingsopen with ease, revealing the city beyond. A small open balcony allows views of the large open space below.
... just then, a living blase of disaster emerges from the dark corridor, having escaped the confines of Avarice's banishment spell (its duration extending to just before this moment).
