Oh well, at least he has it... the group had better be thankful that he does.
"For crying out loud... You owe me one for this!" He yells out as he tosses a 50ft rope down and grabs ahold of it. But calculating his strength, he concluded that his firepower alone wouldn't be enough to hoist him back even with the belt of hill giant strength. "I'd appreciate it if someone helped me with pulling him up! I'm not losing a glyph key before we can even mesh two of them together!"

As all of this is going on, the white gate opens up and a dense green fog on tbe other side is revealed. It creeps toward you as you extricate Trisk from the pit.

The next he sees is his brother blocking a necrotic ray out of nowhere and a thick fog settling in the abyss. The second wave must be obscured in there, it seems. "Everyone stay close!" He commands as he uses Dispel Magic to get rid of any harmful spells in there, assuming that there is any.

This describes spider climb, (it's also a racial ability of at least dhampir)
Second story work is a 3rd level.class ability that just takes the normally 2x movement of climbing (similar to difficult terrain) and makes it 1x.
After consideration, standard climbing is hot possible in this circumstance, no dice should be rolled to attempt it.
