Hlin nods "Yep just needed to catch my breath. Lets continue" Once more Hlin takes the lead careful not to step on the raven heads. She is vigilant as she travels onwards
Belkaria steps into the lead and starts to move slowly down the hallway, avoiding raven heads on the ground. Garth follows close behind, both looking down the hall. As you travel 30 feet further down the hall, you avoid triggering any further traps. At that point, as you look up, you notice what appears to be a portcullis above you. Stepping underneath it on the other side, approximately 20 feet down the hall, you notice two alcoves off the side of the passage, one to the north and one to the south. The passageway continues on to the east. It is quiet, there is no sound of movement. Hlin, you don’t see anything further down the hall. Belkaria is in front, then Garth, then Hlin and Salamir, then Javier bringing up the rear. Norak and the orcs are behind you. Let me know if there is anything you would like to do, or we will keep proceeding down the hall.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Salamir carefully inspects the northern alcove as they pass, not getting too close, but having a good look inside. He follows the usual rules about not stepping on any raven heads.
"I wonder why these alcoves are here?", he asks as he leans in.

Whilst the others inspect the portcullis and alcoves, Javier's sight remains further down the hall as he finds a place to sit and attaches his lighted quill to Olive with some string. He crosses his legs and sends her further down the hall seeing through her vision making sure she doesn't step on any traps:

Olive doesn’t hear anything as she happily bounds down the hall. Belkaria moves forward in front, walking toward the alcoves, Garth pauses for a moment to look at the portcullis, then catches up to her. Hlin pauses longer, looking at the sides of the portcullis, saying “Hey guys, I think this thing is active. It’s not just here for show.” Javier holds up his quill, looking down the hall and doesn’t see anything. Belkaria is walking closer to the alcove, about 10 feet away when Salamir further back says “Wait a minute Belkaria, watch out for that step, I see something on the floor….” Too late. Belkaria steps forward and *click* presses on a plate.
A sturdy, supported portcullis drops down and locks into place. It has 4 inch wooden beams and iron cross supports riveted through. 2 of the orcs, Erk Swingblade and Durrik Bonebreaker were trapped behind the portcullis on the other side, they were slower and taking their time walking up the hall, avoiding the raven heads.
Hlin looks to Erk Swingblade "By Sehanine Moonbow we are trapped. Can you use your greataxe to chop the wooden beams. I know it will take some time, but keep trying"
Garth was remarkably oblivious to the others as the tromped past while he investigated the obvious trap. He looks up, startled, as Hlin calls out, "What the....!"
Moving quickly, he rolls onto the same side of the portcullis as the party just as it clangs into place. Glaring up the corridor, he just shakes his head and dusts himself off. "No damned sense in risking my life near the front if all you're going to do is tromp right past me when I find something."
He turns back to the portcullis to complete his investigation with Hlin.
“Shoot that can’t be good… maybe there’s another exit or a switch further ahead?” Javier ponders as he snaps back to his own vision. He helps investigate the portcullis, whining his light for those to see.

Belkaria's mouth drops open as what she steps on triggers the closing of the porticolis gate. "I uh, oh shoot, I'm so sorry." As Salamir looks at her, she turns even more red than she is.
She notices that they are now separated and also looks to see if she can find a reverse lever to what she just employed.
Erk and Durrik nod to you, take out their great axes, and starting swinging away at the portcullis. It is pretty sturdy however and reinforced, their axes make a loud clanging as they are trying to break through, splinters of wood fly off but it will take a while for them to break through. Norak pushes against the portcullis from the other side, bends down and strains trying to lift it. Meanwhile, on the other side you are searching for a way to raise the portcullis, it does seem that there should be a mechanism. Salamir searches but in vain, he can’t see anything. There doesn’t seem to be a way to rewind it that you can see. Javier lifts the light on his quill high, but he can’t find anything. Belkaria looks around as well but the search is fruitless.
As you are walking back and forth, looking for a trigger, a secret door, or some mechanism to raise the portcullis, you get within 10 feet of the alcoves to the north and south. There is nothing that you see in your search, but as you are looking, you are startled when two figures emerge from within the dark alcoves, turn and face you. You hear a booming sound that says “THESE ARE THE HALLS OF AZRAK, YOU SHALL NOT ENTER. ALL WHO REMAIN SHALL PERISH.” As you turn to look at this, you see two 8 foot tall suits of armor, that appear in the style of a birdman. The helm is shaped like a bird head and where the hands are there are claws. They raise their claws and start to move toward you.

Garth stops at the portcullis. "Ominous, I'd call that."
He inspects it more closely, trying to find a way to stop it coming down behind them, or to raise it if it does come down.
Hlin moves to investigate the portcullis while avoiding the bird head. "I agree that would be bad if the portcullis were to come down trapping us here"
