“It seems we have a bone to pick with this one…” Ivy mutters to themself as they ponder what the grey bone could mean. She reaches over to whomever she can, Walf and/or Durnir. Ivy tugs on their sleeve in hopes to get their assistance, and guidance, to review the stone like skeletal remains.
History Check: 18 If help applies for advantage: 1 If guidance is provided: 3
You are in fact aware of what this is - this is the beginning stages of the Stone Curse - a curse that originates from Es'Verdai-El. This particular curse is ancient, dating back a few thousand years from when the Haguanti Empire was still the dominant empire of the continent. You know that it slowly turns its victims fully into stone from the inside out, and is most often used as a magical trap against tomb raiders.
(The 18 is enough to succeed by itself. For future reference, Help is an action in combat - the action you are looking for is the optional rule variant Aid Other. The ruling is listed in the discord server if you'd like to review the details on the mechanics :D )
You make your way onto one of the many rock formations present on this beach - this particular one giving you about 10 extra feet from the ground level. As the others investigate, you don't seem to see anything that would raise alarm. As the night edges onward, the birds have begun to disperse.
Durnir watches as the birds begin to leave. He says to himself "Hmm, good. Now Walf can focus on the task at hand instead of his constant tweeting."
Since he sees nothing of interest coming towards them, he notices that Adaban has made a discovery. "Ohh, what is this? Some casks I see? Maybe something tasty? Here, I can give you a hand! And so can Helm!" He will make his way down to help Adaban, as well as give him Guidance.
(Apologies, still newish with mechanic specifics. Will try to remember and refer to the discord channel :3)
”Oh!” Ivy blurts. “This is the beginning stages of the Stone Curse - a curse that originates from Es'Verdai-El.” She points out the greyish bones. “This curse is ancient! Like older than Durnir and Walf combined, ancient.” She nods sagely. “Dates back a few thousand years from when the Haguanti Empire was still the dominant empire of the continent.” Ivy rhymes off these seemingly random tidbits from her memory. Most likely something she read or heard passively during her medical studies. “The curse slowly turns its victims fully into stone from the inside out, and is most often used as a magical trap against tomb raiders.”
Walf nods proudly "Ivy right! Walf wonder about ship and people on ship" Walf takes a look at the other dead bodies strewn about to see if they too have this curse
"Anyone able to get out to the ship?" Davis asks, calling over the sound of the waves. "We may not have another chance to get to it, if those waves wash it back out to sea before we can return here..."
Walf nods proudly "Ivy right! Walf wonder about ship and people on ship" Walf takes a look at the other dead bodies strewn about to see if they too have this curse
Walf you look around for other bodies, but it doesn’t seem like any others have made it to shore.
"Anyone able to get out to the ship?" Davis asks, calling over the sound of the waves. "We may not have another chance to get to it, if those waves wash it back out to sea before we can return here..."
Looking out to the sea, you’d notice the glimmer of moonlight starting to reflect off of the water as it waves about. The moon remains of out of sight, back beyond the rocky outcrop to the west of the party.
It is safe to say that all of you would have existing knowledge about the tide. The water swells a few feet typically during night time, and you already notice water starting to splash at your feet as you stand around this scavenged corpse.
(( How far way is the ship? Is it noticeably grounded on reef or rocks, or more likely lodged onto a sand bar? ))
Adaban looks to the others who look out at the ship in reply to Davis' question. "Does one know these waters, these shores? Shallow or deep, infested with that which consumes or of jagged rock or reef that cut? Can one swim the tide, or does it kill when tried?"
“It was a complement!” Ivy bats their lashes innocently at Durnir. “About how young and lively you are in comparison…”
Ivy shifts, then exchanges a look with Walf. She didn’t possess the famed prowess of a true nature master at this time. The legendary shifting of forms was yet to be something she could do. In cases like this where she would be weak in strength, she could potentially make up when taking the form of an animal. However, this was not an option available to them. Scrunching their nose, Ivy eventually relaxes it then looks to Adaban. “Davis expressed interest in it’s investigation too.” She’d nod. “I’m willing to aid in the efforts.” Ivy would begin patting themselves down as if looking through supplies and sifting through thoughts. “Perhaps tie, or anchor, the searchers with some rope. Those who remain near land can pull them back should they get swept into danger?” She spit balls.
(Essentially, if it takes athletics to go out there, Ivy would be a liability. If Acrobatics, not so much. She’s willing to provide aid and/or guidance.)
To Adaban, "Umm, trouble following all of that. It shouldn't be too bad, I don't think. I doubt there will be too many creatures this close to shore. There will probably be some sharp rocks. We can use some rope to keep whoever goes safe."
Durnir will get out a rope and tie one end to himself. "Alright, who's going, I can be an anchor!" Durnir will give guidance and aid to someone as well. He'll prefer to stay back, in case someone needs healing when they come back.
"I can give it a try." Davis says with a shrug. He ties the end of his rope to himself, then lets someone else tie it to the rope tied around whomever is going to anchor him. (2 ropes tied together should get us about 100 feet...) He then tries to head out towards the ship...
Davis as you head out, you feel the cold, Frigin Sea water start to creep up your legs, each wave bringing it a bit higher. You shudder as the water passes your waist as you make your way out about 40ft.
I'll need a constitution saving throw to see how the water temperature affects you.
As you continue your way into the cold water, it rises up to your chest about 70 feet out, and requires you to swim. The swells are much more intense here, and the rock formations create an aggressive current that weaves between them.
For the final 30ft stretch, I will need an Athletics check to see how strong a swimmer you are. If your constitution save is below a 14, I will need this Athletics check at disadvantage.
"What in the Gods' names is he doing..." Khione would mutter, watching Davis begin to swim out with a shake of her head. She stood up from the woman's corpse and began wiping the blood off of her dagger. A curse from Es'Verdai-El... a magical curse, undoubtedly. But in a place where Magic is so taboo, she silently wondered how something of this machination wound up here, in the wilderness nonetheless. Khione didn't like the implications of this.
Durnir takes Davis's rope and ties it to his own. If needed, he'll move into the water about 10-20 feet, no higher than knee depth, to give Davis more slack.
Looking about, Ivy decides to step forward with Durnir to see if she can provide additional aid to Davis by further steadying the rope or guiding him from a vantage point.
Those of you that would like to keep an eye out for things: the rock formations that protrude out above the water block your line of sight, so any perception check from ground level will have to be made at disadvantage.
You may climb up on any of the nearby rock formations (or gain height by other beings) to negate this. (Walf - not sure if you are still up on the rock or not. Ivy would have to climb up though. You can both make perception checks to determine ability for this check.)

(The ship is about 100ft off shore, and seems to be propped up or wedged on the jagged rock formations that protrude above the water.

(@Ivy - It will be an athletics test)

Walf keeps an eye..or 2...out for anything suspicious or dangerous while the others help Davis
