The stone man makes its way to the edge of the ship, looking out in the direction of Davis. It continues to stare, unmoving as he pulls himself to shore.
You are all able to see the figure as it stands idly on the deck.
Davis is huffing for breath as he gets to his feet on the shor. He turns and looks back to the figure on the ship. Cocking his head to one side he is somewhat surprised to see the figure just standing there. "Whatever that thing is, it did not come out of the area below deck like it wanted me there." Davis tells the others. "Burst out like it was going to attack, so I jumped for it. Didn't want to take on something like whatever that is by myself after all." He frowns as he looks over the figure. (Does the figure have any weapons, anything that makes it look like someone or something more than just a large human-like shape? I.E. is it male, female, wearing anything that looks like armor or like clothes, etc...)
Davis - You didn't see any weapons, and things happened too fast for you to be able to make details from its garb, as everything was grey. You can tell from shore, however, that it has a masculine frame, and stands maybe 6-7 ft tall.
"Hoy, the ship!" Davis calls out, stepping a bit closer to the ship, and into the water back up to his waist. "What be going on, does anyone on board need help!" He tries to get the attention of the figure, and see if it is alive or some sort of animated statue of some kind.
The figure does not respond, does not move at all. It simply continues to stand in its place, appearing more as a statue than living person.
Those of you that are familiar with the Stone curse could go ahead and make another history check to determine if you have heard about this phenomena before.
Durnir looks up to the figure, then to the others. "So, what is that thing? Is that what caused the stone curse? What do you all want to do? Should we kill it and finish searching the ship?"
Your understanding of the Stone Cursed is limited, as much of what the Haguanti once was has been consumed by the jungle over the millennia since its deterioration. That being said, there are stories of those that have wandered off in search of the Haguanti civilization's remains, hopeful to find untold riches laying in wait to be recovered. Of those that return, most of them never find the ancient ruins. Of those that do find the ruins, many fall victim to the traps laid out, centuries old.
Only the truly fortunate make it to that which they seek and return unscathed. They tell the stories of the stone curse - the slow, paralyzing, and eventually petrifying illness that afflicts those that go where the do not belong. Some of what has been described is so far from the truth, it begs to be an exaggeration. Giant scorpions walking along walls and ceilings, hordes of man eating beetles coming up from the ground, gargoyles around every corner, and the stone cursed - petrified men cursed to eventually animate and attack the living senselessly. It would appear that there may be some truth to this final rumor.
Walf recalls some things he has read over his years and tries to explain it to his companions "Ancient civilization curse on people. Adventurers seek riches and fortune get curse. Curse turn people to stone. Stone people roam around killing living people...very bad, very bad"
"So likely there is some cursed item on that ship, and that statue-man is one of those who took it from some ancient place." Davis says as he looks towards the statue man. He then shrugs and turns to the others. "We can likely deal with the guardian there if you wish to risk it, but I am not certain we should get close to something that can turn us all to stone. Thoughts?"
(I will say there is probably about 15 minutes left on the dark vision from twilight cleric, though the moon is big and bright and at the very least provides dim light so you'll have some vision without it.)
Davis uses the rope to tug himself through the water, back towards shore.

Walf shouts to the others
“Walf sees gray man on ship. Davis jump and swim in water. Davis look in trouble”
Durnir, seeing Davis jump off the ship. "Ivy, heave ho!"
Durnir begins pulling in the rope as he starts moving back to shore himself. He focuses on Davis, before he looks up at the gray man.
Ivy follows Durnir’s lead as she squints her eyes to see if she can make out any intentions of the man on the ship.
(Would Ivy’s passive insight of 16 be able to apply while she focuses on the rope/maintaining footing to aid Durnir/Davis?)
just an unstable unicorn.
Ivy - It would appear the stone man has stopped at the edge of the boat, perhaps to keep watch or guard it.
Had it not moved to this position, you wouldn't guess that it were anything other than a statue.

Walf nods in agreement "MmHmm stoneman stay with cursed artifact Walf hope"
Durnir nods in agreement "Let's leave it be. No good can come from it. The tide will drag the wreckage to sea."
Then Durnir turns and gives a look to Walf "Is this why you told me not to go snooping around any old ruins?"
Walf nods and points to his head "Durnir smart....Walf forget saying....Durnir smart...cake!"
Such creatures can drown? What need of breath does stone have?
