Another clear, cold day. But you’re feeling the toll of the journey and not moving quite as efficiently as before. Orvo is lost in his own thoughts, brooding, and has little to say. The young elk follows you sullenly, pulled along on its ropes.
The landscape here is barren. There are few solitary trees and little in the way of wildlife. So it’s strange when, around midday, you spot a figure, just a dark outline against the snow in the distance, moving towards you.
The figure marches unerringly towards you and as it gets closer you realize that it is tall, quite tall, broad of shoulder, with long swinging arms, carrying some long object in one hand, and it wears little in the way of clothing despite the freezing temperatures. Although it appears humanoid, you doubt it is human.
Orvo is squinting ahead and grumbles, “I don’t like this one bit.”
Fro pulls her sword and prepares herself for the unexpected. "Well, Im not big on hiding from something so ordinary, how about we go out to meet this new encounter?" She will stand and walk directly toward the creature with her sword out. "Coming Cyro?"
Orvo curses as the thing approaches. “It’s an ice troll, no use reasoning with it, we’ll have to fight it off somehow!”
Round 1
The troll is 100 feet away and lumbering closer. It grips a large tree branch in one hand. You can see now that it’s taller even than Fro. It moves single-mindedly towards you, a foolish toothy grin plastered on its twisted face.
At a hundred feet, I am guessing 30' movement for the troll, We can all get a couple range attacks in before it gets to us... Fro will place her silvered maul at her feet and grab a javelin. She will throw the javalin at the troll with disadvantage. "At Ice Troll you say? Cool, I have never fought one."
“Nor have I,” says Orvo nervously. He waits for the troll to get closer before throwing his axe. The troll obliges by speeding up suddenly, shambling towards you quickly, closing about 2/3 of the gap (dashed for 60 feet). It seems to be chuckling or giggling to itself weirdly.
Orvo throws an axe but the distance is difficult for him and he misses, axe sinking into the snow. He backs away, putting Fro between him and the troll, and prepares to throw his other axe.
Cyro’s arrow did indeed miss. Fro’s javelin is on target, however, stabbing into the troll’s shoulder. It doesn’t seem much bothered by this, however, merely pulling the javelin out with its free hand and dropping it into the snow. The puncture wound bleeds a little but appears to be shrinking?
Cyro will be used to seeing Fro go into her rage, but Orvo will get to see her eyes start blazing and she even appears to swell with strength as she screams." Aaaaiiiieeee, come closer and feel my rath." She picks up her Maul and prepares to meet the troll.
The troll shuffles towards you another 30’ and behinds to brandish its tree limp like a club. It doesn’t seem much fazed by getting hit with Cyro’s arrow.
Orvo throws his other hand axe, missing again. He curses and gets out his crossbow.
Round 3
21 Cyro -
15 Orvo -
15 Troll (now 10’ away and closing) (12 damage?) -
when it is her turn, Fro will follow Cyro to the troll, Swings her silvered maul at the troll. "I will wipe that smile from your face, You are not going to enjoy this."
Orvo gets a clean shot with his heavy crossbow, 14 damage!
Cyro and Fro also score good hits, another 25 damage between them!
Mighty hits, seemingly enough to slay the creature. Indeed, the crazed monster staggers under Fro’s hammer blow. But then the troll shrugs it all off, and you see Cyro’s arrow that was jutting into the troll’s side suddenly pop out to the ground as the wound somehow seals itself up. The javelin wound is also gone.
The troll brings the large tree branch crashing down at Cyro, who nimbly avoids it (11 to hit).
(OOC: Oh, shrugs it all off.. that is unexpected.. resistance I expected.. immunity I did not. Must think harder.. lol, not easy to do in a rage)
Fro notices the Troll is not hurting from the blows, but her mind can't quite grasp the reason.."Agggg, Die you cursed beast, why do you not suffer your wounds."
She will bring her maul back around in a crushing blow to the trolls arm trying to sever it completely.
Well I don’t know about immunity, the attacks seem effective but the troll appears to have some regenerative ability that is gradually but steadily reversing their effects.
Cyro, it's your turn to take an action this round! The troll will take a turn as well. Orvo will spend the round reloading his crossbow, and Fro's attack is going to miss.
