As the sun is now setting, Kvothe thinks to himself "better get back to party, no point going on by myself." He turns to party approximately 110 feet away and points to the setting sun and then briefly puts both hands over his eyes. He then carefully starts to cross back over the bridge constantly turning his head to check that nothing is approaching the bridge or coming onto the bridge after him.
After Kvothe gets off the bridge he says "It appears safe, but as it now dusk, I couldn't see anything. Better we stay here the night rather than try and cross in the darkness."

Panwan looks over at the group and sighs. "I can see in the dark and I am not going to wait the whole night while my comrade over at the camp may be dying."
Panwan walks across the bridge and after he gets to about 60' across you don't see him anymore as he gets swallowed into the darkness.
As Panwan starts across the bridge, Yellow adjusts her pack. "I agree. We need to get down there as quickly as possible." She looks at Ezio. "Your idea seems sound, pointy ears. Let us jump once we're on the other side." She joins the rest walking across.

As Panwan crosses the bridge and gets to where there is land below he walks off the ledge as he mumbles a few words in Abyssal, and floats down safely to the ground and rushes over to his comrade. You notice from up on the bridge where you are his hands glow a bright white before he touches the soldier. The soldier's body convulses before settling back to its resting position. Panwan sits next to the man and leans his back against the cliff wall waiting for the rest of the group to come down.
Everyone gathers above the spot where the rope is and you can see knots tied into the rope at regular intervals making it a lot easier to climb down then a normal rope would be. You guys decide to use Ezio's idea and jump down for the purposes of haste and do as he tells you so there will be no splats on the ground. It takes a few moments but everyone is on the ground now near the campfire.
Panwan looks tired from the strain he put on his body just now healing the soldier but the soldier looks fine now as well. He had a nasty bite mark that ripped open his neck but it is closing rapidly. The soldier also has burn marks all over his body as if he walked through fire. You can tell the sure signs of being poisoned about his body (there are no sure signs this is for story purposes only) but that seems to be fading as well.
"He is unconscious but he will live," Panwan says with a smile. " he is from the missing patrol. So that means the others are around here somewhere. maybe in the cave, maybe in the tower above. I do not know. But the tracks lead to the cave."
Around the campfire you notice several backpacks laying about. They look like standard adventuring backpacks that you guys carry. Most likely they contain the basics, food, waterskins, salves, and other things one might need for travel. Panwan opens one of the packs and rifles through it and frowns.
"This was Jobul Rainwalker's pack. The tube is not in here. He must've taken it wherever he went. I suggest we camp here for the night and maybe explore that cave or tower in the morning. This soldier won't be waking up until then so at least he can tell us what happened in the morning."

Kvothe pulls out his rations, eyeing them with some distaste but he eats them anyway along with a drink of water. He turns to Ezio and says pointing to the Black Shield "do you want to have a look at this blasted thing. I can't use it and if it's useful to somebody else they can have it and carry it." He then makes sure that his rain-catcher is set up for the night and says more generally "I'll take middle watch.

"Well it's a bloody good thing you got to him when you did. By the looks of his wounds, I doubt he would have survived much longer. That's a bugger about the missing vial. Back tracking to the cave seems like a good place to start."

Panwan shakes his head. "No that soldier isn't Jobul, I was saying this pack was Jobuls. But yes, it seems they went into the cave and something nasty has befallen them. I suggest we get rest before we head in there. Let us regain our strength and talk to this soldier."
Yellow finds a smooth spot near the cliff wall and claims it as her own. She rolls out her bedroll and sits, situating her things around herself. She begins eating a ration and drinking her last waterskin. She reaches into her pack and begins pulling out her dagger, but then hesitates. She replaces the dagger inside the pack and instead removes her new longsword from its scabbard. With her free paw, she draws the blade close to her deep green eyes, looking at it from point to hilt. Her tail is sliding back and forth along the ground in lazy waves.
Ezio accepts the shield from the tiefling and spends half an hour examining it and the other items he grabbed before he joined the party again around the camp fire. "Well, another batch of interesting items we have here. Well, with the exception of this rather disappointing magic wand which only functions focus for arcane spells. First, this shortsword is magically enhanced to aid the power of accuracy of its wielder (Weapon, +1). A minor enchantment, but a useful one. Kvothe seems best suited to it as he seems to prefer small blades." He tosses the sheathed sword to the tiefling underhanded. "Next is this battleaxe. It is enchanted similarly to the shortsword, but it also enhances the vitality of anyone who attunes to it. The downside is that it is cursed, once you attuned to it, you would have a difficult time using other weapons if an enemy were near and would always keep it close to you. Also, should you be injured by an enemy, a berserker rage may overwhelm your willpower and cause you to strike out at the nearest creature, be it friend or foe, until everything within 60 feet, or so, of you is dead or fled (Berserker Axe). This last item is the most interesting," Ezio says while holding up the black shield. "it is also cursed, but the effects of that curse will undoubtedly prove beneficial to your allies. It functions as a regular shield, however the curse causes it to attract any weapon projectiles fired at a target within 10 feet to the person it is attuned to. To offset this, it also magically reduces the amount of damage said attacks do to you (Shield of Missile Attraction). Should the curses be removed from either of these two items, they're magical benefits would still remain, so think wisely before discarding either of these off handedly." He sets the battleaxe and the shield down, passing them to any who appear interested.
"As I said before, I have little use for these weapons. They would be better used in the hands of those proficient with their kind. There is one subject I'd like to broach though, while I have your attention, and that is the subject of a leader for this expedition. Twice now, once when we visited the clearing of the killing tree the second time and again just before crossing the bridge, our group has acted fragmentally, without a concerted effort. Though our intent seems generally in line with one another, we need someone to guide our actions more efficiently. We need a designated leader. Without one, this sort of hesitation and confusion on the battlefield may lead to another death in our party, if not the death of all us. We all saw what happened to Vyth and our previous ventures through this jungle have been equally perilous, as I understand from what Eku told me. To be clear, I am not advocating that we all designate someone we will follow blindly, the leader must still heed the majorities' wishes, however we need designate someone to push us into action when necessary and break any stalemates. I am able and willing to fill the role of leader, but I have already tried doing so and you all seem hesitant to accept that. That does not offend me, but someone must be designated now, because whatever is in that cave decimated a group of highly trained and coordinated soldiers. If we go in there, each to their own prerogative, we will likely die." Ezio let the final word hang in the air as he caught the eyes of each person around the campfire. "Who shall fill this role?"
“Thanks, I’m sure I can find a use for it”Kvothe says to Ezio accepting the shortsword. “The pointy ears has nailed it on the leadership issue, even if he does use a bucket-load of words”he thinks to himself. “I’m not the leader type” he says to the party generally “but I can’t scout properly if I'm not working off an agreed plan” he finishes with as he also looks around the campfire at the other party members.
Yellow looks up lazily as Ezio speaks. Her ears twitch. "You have already gifted me this fine sword," she says in an almost dreamy tone of voice, "but if no one else is interested in the shield ... I would accept it. As for the role of leader," she says, her voice becoming less foggy, but not at all stern, "as this is an Order of the Gauntlet mission, it only stands to reason that Panwan, as the ranking Order member, would be leader." She looks at the Vindicator, who, without even looking at her, nods once. Rolling her eyes, she looks back at Ezio, a hint of a growl edging into her voice. "But perhaps those of you not part of the Order would like to select someone to work closely with him as a kind of spearhead." The growl edges away and a slight grin plays at the corners of her mouth. "I'd nominate you, wizard. You certainly have the ... mmm ... head for it."
