After the incident with the 'lost travelers' in the jungle, a few days back, you spent the remainder of the night cautious but safe. When the morning time arrived you all woke up healthy and refreshed. You spent the morning eating the remained of your food and taking down the camp. Undril was excited to get on with the trip. She is getting impatient and wants to be at Camp Vengeance but does not blame the party in any way. She blames her superiors for faulty intel and wishes for the strict regimen of life in the Order once again.
The next couple of days after that went by without any problems. Between the hunting and the fishing, you've been able to keep yourselves fed and hydrated without having to dip into your rations at all. Eku has been a little nicer to the group as of late and has been talking a bit more, mostly about things in the jungle (general basic jungle skills etc, small talk)
The trip upriver has been uneventful. The jungle has been getting thicker and the sounds have been picking up at night but you've been lucky that you haven't encountered anything so far. Zee explains that it is Ubtoa protecting everyone on their important mission while Eku just says we've been very lucky. Whatever the case you've been safe and the journey towards Camp Vengeance has been smooth sailing.
As you turn a bend in the river you come upon an abandoned riverside camp strewn with wreckage. The tents are moldy and tattered, and all the permanent structures appear to have burned to the ground. Two intact rowboats are tied off to a short dock. North of the camp is a ridge, built into which is an 80-foot-tall stone statue carved to look like a man with a crocodile on his back. Between the statue’s feet is a stone archway leading to a dark tunnel. To the left of the statue is a crude animal pen with a small, panicked bird running around inside it. There are no other signs of life.
Zee looks at the Statue and makes the sign of Ubtoa. The guides bring the boats to shore next to the other two boats.
"It's getting late in the evening. This is a good a place as any to stop for the night. We should hit Camp Vengeance by tomorrow night."Eku says as she steps off the boat and looks around the deserted camp.

As he steps off the boats and surveys his surroundings (perception check 16) Greggor asks Undril , "You vere here ven dis camp vas lost? Ver do you tink ve shouldt camp?"

Zachariah quietly walks toward the statue. A couple times, he looks over his shoulder at the others as they labor to set up camp. At the base of the stairs, he rolls out his bedroll and sits facing the group. He pulls the small leather-bound book out of his pack and flips through the pages, his eyes on the group more than the book.

"I wasn't here when the camp was lost. It was overrun by dinosaurs and the undead. The original Order of the Gauntlet team that was here went upriver after the camp was lost and settled Camp Vengeance a day away. I wish I was here. Many brothers and sisters lost their lives that day. I might have been able to save some of them if I was here." Undril says with a frown.
Krav looks around suspiciously for any signs of life before helping set up camp.

The only signs of life that you notice from the beach is that little animal pen. You can hear something inside it but you can't see from your vantage point.

This shrine was built centuries ago by Chultans. Carved into a stony hillside, its entrance lies between the feet of an 80-foot-high stone statue depicting a man carrying a crocodile on his back. Eku notices you staring at the statue and walks over to you. "There is a story known to my people about this. Let me recall it for you."
In the early days of the world, Man stood by the banks of a river, frightened. Crocodile raised his head from the water and asked, “What troubles you, cousin Man?”
Man said, “I must cross this river, but I fear to enter the water alone, because it teems with your brethren.”
Crocodile replied, “It’s true, you would not be safe. But I will carry you across the river safely on my back, if you promise to return the favor.” Man agreed, and Crocodile bore him safely across the water
When they reached the far bank, Man asked, “How can I repay you?” Crocodile replied, “I wish to see the realm of Humans, but I fear to go there alone, because it teems with your brethren. You must carry me on your back across your realm.” Man had been tricked, but a promise is a promise, so he carried Crocodile safely on his back across the entire realm of humans, a journey that lasted many years. He also swore, in his anger, that never again would Men and Crocodiles be friends, and so it has remained to this day.
Krav grabs his axe and hurries over to the animal pen, looking to see what the sound is.
Vart says to Krav “Friend Krav two sets of eyes and a back-up is better than going alone - let me join you” as Vart follows Krav to the sound.
Inside the animal pen, you notice a small creature that has gotten itself trapped in here. It begins to squawk when you get close to the pen. It's wing looks to be busted and it doesn't look happy.
With your rolls, you know that it is an Axe Beak. An axe beak is a tall flightless bird with strong legs and a heavy, wedge-shaped beak. It has a nasty disposition and tends to attack any unfamiliar creature that wanders too close.
Ahkmenos will pull out some food and give it to the baby dino. Is it a boy or a girl? I'll just give it a full ration, maybe it's super hungry. I'm not actually going to hand feed it, I'll just toss it in the pen.

The animal is trapped in an animal pen that is enclosed with a fence. There is a gate to one side of the pen and you could unlatch it if you choose. If you want to feed it you will have to throw the food over the fence which is only 4 feet high.

Seeing the gate, "Perhaps we should just let it go? Although it's injured, it would likely fare better out in the wilds, then starving cooped up in this pen." Kaslo shrugs.
